The Adventure….she continues

The Adventure….she continues

So, hello again LOYAL and true.

News Flash – Cake is still at Yaoi House.

Needless to say, Kira can tell her own story about what is happening with the publishing company but I am just going to show you the angsty time I’ve been having. Thanks to those who have been keeping me posted on YH happenings. I won’t list your name just incase legal actions might ensue somewhere down the line but thank you, thank you , thank you.

So I was emailed that all contracts were null and voided. I was contacted again saying that they weren’t but the interim president would like a verbal (email) commitment that I would be staying with YH. This was when I was informed that only two books would be published this year (and Cake wasn’t one of them) Then, stuff happens again…

YH splintered into another company SL Publishing Group. Then I was hit with this statement:

“I'll be dismantling the YH subscription site because I suspect all the
writers have gone with Harial to her new domain. I hope so. They got
the raw end of the shaft, too. I'll be too busy with my own writing to
try and maintain such a subscription site--and I don't even want to,
because it's Harial's baby. To be honest I'll mostly be focusing on my
own books now, unless we've signed new contracts with authors I'm not
aware of. Or if we have, perhaps they can follow Harial. Maybe she'll
publish print books too."

So I took this to mean that YH was only going to be publishing Kira’s books. Which is fine. I’m going to get Taming Riki: Volume III.

So, since I gave my verbal commitment to the president of SL Publishing Group, when she was YH I wrote a letter to them: (See below)

Greetings!

Congratulations on your new publishing venture SL Publishing Group. My name is Derekica Snake (kiix) and I had been offered a contract to publish my yaoi novel "CAKE" back before it seems like everything hit the fan. I guess I am up in limbo and would like to find out what my status is. Or even if I do have status!!

I won't kid you that I have gotten confused. I signed a contract with YH but it was rescinded. I gave my verbal commitment to Harial to continue so I guess I am divided. If I am tied to YH, then the contact expires November 2008. I really don't feel any progress will happen with my work due to the shake up with that company. As with any writer, the offer of publishing was a great big pat on the ego for me. Understanding the way of business as well as mental illness, I am now in limbo. I can't move forward or go back

Any assistance or opinion would be appreciated. I'm just in the dark and my fan base are asking when the book is going to be available for sale. It would be nice to tell them either a date or that I would have to start the query letters all over again.

Thank you for your time

Derekica Snake
(Kiix)

Imagine my surprise that I got an answer the next day!! I know e-mail was supposed to make the world a more efficient place…yeah right. But still, I’m impressed.

Hi, Derekica!

Thank you for your congratulations! Thank you also for your patience with this situation.

As far as SL Publishing Group is concerned, I encourage you to discuss your contract with Harial as she will be the one doing contract negotiations. I would recommend sending her an email for further information.

Just to jumpstart the process, I'm ccing this message to Harial with your original letter intact so that she can read about your situation. Hopefully she'll get in contact with you quickly. However, if she doesn't get in contact with you within a day or two, please contact me.

Hopefully you can give your fans some concrete information soon if we both work on it.

Sincerely,
Kali

So I think I might have started something, or my timing is unbelievably on, because the next day, I got this general e-mail out from YH..

Hello YH Authors,

This email is part apology, and part information. First, I want to apologize for everything you've been put through over the past few months and to assure you that we value you and your work. Second I need to inform you that the contract you signed with Yaoi House still remains in effect, as it was never legally voided with signatures, and we fully intend to publish your books. For most of the contracts we have 2 years from the date you submit your first completed manuscript to actually publish the book.

The company now has a new President who will be managing book publication so that I can focus on my own writing. I'm sure everyone agrees that is a better situation for us all.

Again, I apologize for the confusion and hardship of the past couple of months. The company is now devoted to ensuring the success of these books and we will be putting a great deal of effort towards that end.

Kind regards,

Kira Takenouchi
Former President, Yaoi House LLC
Manager, Yaoi House LLC

So this means, I’m locked with Yaoi House. Which is fine. It’s great. This just means, I can shop my other stories around or I can really start looking at self publishing. I am trying to get “That’s What Brother’s Do” ready for a lulu.com venture.

So I will have to contact SL Publishing Group and tell them that YH still holds my contract and will keep me with them for at least two years.

I hope this keeps you up in the loop and that you are enjoying the trials and tribulations of my adventures in publishing…I have half a mind to pull all these little bits and pieces together and make its own novella. Heh heh. I got too many stories on the go right now.

Later Loyal.

Kiix
