Chapter 4
Part Four
R
I’m snatched from sleep by the busy signal of the phone. It was completely off the hook…just like last night. I say a silent prayer and wipe my eyes. My mind pulls me back to last night. I just can’t get that man out of my head. The way he looked at me and touched me. The way he held me in his arms as we danced. It was as if we’ve dancedt dat dance before. We didn’t have to learn it we were experts already. Oh, and that kiss…Definitely Sexual Chocolate.
I’m suddenly interrupted when the phone rings. Ooooh de ja vu!! I pick it up and I hear a very deep voice. It’s not the voice that I wanted to hear. \"Hey, good morning babygirl,” Noel says. Now, why is my brother calling me this early in the morning. He must want some mula (money). He continues with, \"I heard a rumor about you last night and I thought you should know.” \"Apparently, Seb D’Angelo was seen at Bistro 880 last night…with a girl named…..\"DabbyDoo!!” I gasp and muttered the words, \"OH NO!!” I’m totally taken aback. My heart has lost its rhythm….I can’t breathe. Noel’s talking but I can’t hear him. My throat suddenly needs a tall a drink of water…..SEB!! It’s a Great thing that I didn’t tell him my REAL name.
I’m somehow brought back to the present. I don’t even ask how he knows. I tell him that I can’t talk right now and he gets the hint. I thank him for looking out for me. Although he’s younger, he considers himself Big Bro. We say our good-byes and hang up. When I go to look for Seb’s number, the phone rings again. Dayum. This is gonna be one long a$$ day. To my surprise it’s my………..\"MOM!” Oh, can this day get any worse. As if on cue, my alarm comes on with the song, \"Complicated\" by Avril Lavigne….so very fitting. I can’t make out what she’s saying. Oh shoot, she just said my full name….and we all know what that means. Eventhough I’m 26 years old, she still sees me as her baby. I try to tell her the gist to calm her done. Good, it works for now. Dayum, everything’s all messed up. I wanted our night to stay that way. Now everybody….and \"My Momma\" knows about it. I get out of bed and try to find my jacket. That’s where I put Seb’s number.
As I’m having my hissy fit the doorbell rings. DAYUM IT….What Now!! I stump my way to my front door and ask who it is. In unison I hear, \"The 3 Musketeers.” I sigh and Thank God for my girls. I let them in and I just fall to pieces. From the look on their faces they know why. We exchange information on what we’ve heard. As if a ritual, the phone rings again. I’m so upset that all I want to do is yank the phone out of the socket. I let it ring a couple of times. Against my better judgement I pick it up. What I hear on the other line is horrifying. It’s blood-curdling screams of a women’s voice. The voice sounds so familiar. She’s screaming…..’HELP!’….\"HELP ME…..D..AB!!” I have my back turned to my friends so they can’t see my face. I’m utterly speechless. She sounds just like……OH NO….IT CAN’T BE!! She’s sitting RIGHT HERE in my living room!!
