Chapter four

Authors notes: Thank you to everyone who’s reviewed so far

Authors
notes: Thank you to everyone who’s reviewed so far. I kept meaning to write
some authors notes for a while but never got round to it, I promise there will
be some (okay lots) of sex but not right now, because now isn’t the right time
for it. But anyway thank you all and please keep reviewing. &nb

Ps.
check out my new story Blood Flecked Rose,
a slightly darker story set in the 18th century filled with
vampires, death and gay sex. The main pairing is F/F but there will be some
good male vampire loving to go around later on.

Andy
looked so pale and small laying on the bed, like a tiny child, he’d been
dressed in one of those ridicules hospital s, hs, his hair was matted with
sweat and his lip swollen, bruises where slowly beginning to form on his face.

Kath
dragged one of the chairs littered about the room for guests to sit on right up
to the bed side and collapsed into it, she reached one hand out to grab Andy’s
but then recoiled.

“Should
I touch him?” she asked Oscar, he looked at her perplexed.

“How
the hell should I know?” he asked her angrily “I know basically shit about what
happened to him, do whatever the fuck you want to him he’s not going to feel
it, the drugs have knocked him out right out”

Kath
looked at him outraged “Don’t you dare talk to me like that; I just want to
make sure I don’t do anything to make it worse”

Oscar
glared at the wall, he didn’t want to look at Kath right now; she’d waltzed
into the hospital and in five minuets gotten more than he’d been able to in
three hours; finally he relented a little.

“It’s
his left wrist th bus busted” he told her quietly.

“Oh…thank
you” Kath said just a quietly, she got up and shifted her chair over to the
other side of the bed before taking Andy’s hand in her own.

Oscar
wished he could have the freedom of being Andy’s long term friend so he could
do the same. Kath looked up at him, tears she was too proud to let fall filling
her eyes.

“Who
would do this?” she asked him darkly “why would they do it?”

“He’s
a fag…what other reason does anybody need?” Oscar answered her coldly; he could
remember seeing Andy on the table with Olli on top of him and how disgusted it
had made him, disgusted at himself for wanting to stay and watch…disgusted for
wanting to be in Olli’s place. The depth of self disgust was overwhelming;
angrily he turned and pointed an accusing finger at the unconscious boy.

“He
brought it on himself, going about let whoever fuck him with no bloody shame
about it, ignoring the fact that other people might not want to know who’s cock
he’s been sucking…somebody was bound to want to shut him up!” Oscar could feel
tears coming to his eyes now, tears filled with frustration and anger towards
that stupid, venerable boy lying in the hospital bed who was everything Oscar
could never be: himself.

Whatever
he’d expected Kath to do; be shocked in to silence, attack him, order he left
the room, cry even he hadn’t expected her to calmly stand up and put her arms
around him.

“Get
off” he muttered, half-heartedly trying to push her away but she clung on to
him, murmuring softly that it was alright, she understood and it was alright.

And
Oscar found that he was crying, tears rolling down his cheeks.

He
hadn’t cried in ages, he promised himself he wouldn’t ever again after…after
what had happened before. But he honestly didn’t want to think about that now
so he pushed Kath away and wiped away what was left of his tears on the back of
his shirt sleeve.

“Sorry”
he said “I…I shouldn’t have swhatwhat I did…its…I don’t…” he gave up fumbling
over his words, he didn’t have to explain him self to her.

“Its
alright, it wouldn’t have been the first time somebody beat him up because he’s
gay” Kath said reassuringly, placing a supportive hand on his shoulder but
Oscar drew away, appalled.

“When?
Who?”

Kath
looked rather unsettled suddenly “I don’t think I should tell you here”

“Why
not?” Oscar asked her, he was curious now. He wanted to know who’d hurt Andy
and he wanted to make them pay for it, something like this should never happen
to a person, let alone more than once.

“Please
not in the hospital…it’s the wrong place for this kind of talk, I need a good coffee
to steady me if I have to go and relive the other times”

Oscar
caught her arm and looked at her, hard “How many times?”

“Three…not
counting this one, this one makes it four” Kath was looking back at him just as
hard, and as much as Oscar wanto kno know, he wanted to know everything about
Andy he could, he could see she wasn’t
going to budge from this coffee idea of hers.

“You
know any good places to get a good cup of coffee?” he asked her, she gave him a
little shy smile.

“Sure,
I know all the good places”

************************

They
sat a diminutive table over looking the road outside, Kath nursing a mocha and
Oscar trying and repeatedly failing to open the little free packets of milk
without spilling them over his shirt front.

The
coffee shop was surprisingly empty; the only other person in there apart from
the staff behind the desk was a young woman in a bright red tracksuit who was
drinking green chi tea and read Health,
Mind and Body.

Oscar
finally relented in his pursuit of milk and handed the tiny carton to Kath, who
took it with out looking, whipped off the lid and handed it back to him. Oscar
bemused poured the unspilled milk into his coffee (black and no sugar) and
stirred it with his spoon.

“So…the
first time” he prompted, Kath took a sip from her drink and smiled softly.

“We
where 10, I was round his house and we where playing with his mom’s make up,
and I was trying on her cloths and shoes and then Andy copied me and did the
same, his mum thought it was adorable and got the video camera out and
everything, it was brilliant, we where having loads of fun”

Kath’s
smile, which had up until now been bright at the remembrance of a happy memory,
suddenly fell into a frown and she had to take another quick sip of her drink “And
then his dad came home, he took one look at Andy dressed up like he was and hit
him, I don’t remember very much of it just screaming and screaming, and his dad
saying he didn’t want a fag for a son and Andy hitting his head on the side of
that stupid TV table and having to be taken to hospital in case of
concussion….he told everyone at school he fell down the stairs”

Oscar
shook his head, how could anyone do that to their own son and with his son’s
friend in the house as well.

“The
second time….” Here she drew in a deep breath “was from somebody I thought I
could trust, I had a boyfriend once” she smiled “wasn’t always like I am now,
and me and Andy where 14 and this guy was 16, and Andy had a crush on him…I
knew Andy was gay and it never once bothered me but it did this guy and one day
he saw Andy was looking at him and he just went mad….started swearing at him
and hitting him callcalling him names and when I tried to stop him he started
to beat me up to so we where both in that time”

Oscar
could hardly believe what he was hearing, the way Kath talked was almost
casual, he knew she was trying to keep things light for his benefit and he
could see how much it was hurting her telling him, he reached out and took her
hand across the table and squeezed it.

“Go
on…last time” he said softly, Kath nodded and smiled bravely at him.

“Last
time just a year ago, he decided he wanted to let everybody know he was out and
proud…I don’t even know what quite happened there just that he got jumped one
day walking home from school…just like today” her voice which had been
quavering died and she burst into tears, Oscar looked around as the woman
looked over at him disapprovingly.

“Kath,
Kath stop crying please” he hissed as gently as he could, the woman had rolled
up her magazine and was marching over to them.

“Is
everything alright love?” she asked Kath, glaring at Oscar in a most alarming
way.

“Yes…yes”
Kath sniffed “it’s just…he’s braking up with me!” she wailed, Oscar stared at
her opened mouthed in astonishment.

“Young
man you are disgusting, bringing the poor girl into a public place and then
telling her…”she was seething and Oscar sank back in his chair away from her
but the woman had turned to Kath and was patting her back gently “don’t worry
dear plenty more fish in the sea”

She
reached into her bag, handed Kath a bundle of tissues and then left, glaring at
Oscar until the last minuet.

“Why
did you do that?” Oscar demanded, but Kath was laughing so hard he couldn’t
hear her explanation, and then Oscar found he was laughing with her.

And
it felt damn good to laugh again.
