The Ghost and The Magician
Chapter 4
There wasn’t much for Ghost to do when Magician wasn’t home. He wasn’t able to “physically” touch things but luckily his “ghost” powers (and a little help from a specific motion sensor installed in the apartment) allowed him to manipulate the electronics around him so that he could at least listen to music while his mate was away or watch TV. Today he was watching TV, some program about National Parks and how they used to exist and what their purpose was. He was startled out of his learning when Magician burst into the apartment, yelling his name loudly and scaring the shit out of him. If anyone had been watching at that particular time he imagined they might have gotten a kick out of that.
“GHOST! Guess what I just found out it’s the best thing ever you won’t believe it!”
“BREATHE MAGE!” Ghost hollered at him, knowing that if his mate didn’t stop soon Ghost would be lost and would have to ask Magician to repeat and his lover really hated repeating himself.
“Oh sorry! Um so yeah I went to see the Storyteller today!”
“The Storyteller? Is he an Attraction?” Ghost asked curiously.
“No, she’s not, at least I don’t think so, she didn’t seem like an Attraction,” Magician appeared to be thinking hard about it. “But that’s not the point! She figured out a way that I can make you real! I just need to get a Psychic in here and do a séance!”
“What’s that?”
“Sofie, that’s The Storyteller’s name, said that it’s like you talk with dead people and maybe I can bring you back into physicality!”
Ghost admired how, despite his obvious excitement, his mate was keeping with the story line, the actor in him was very proud. Magician had come a long way from the start. His (now) lover had been constantly forgetting their story or the past and more than once angry words had been traded about Ghosts’ rigidity and Magician’s stubbornness. Thank goodness all that was over. Ghost realized that Magician was eagerly awaiting his approval and nodded to show that he understood. “So all we need now is a psychic, is there one around here? Does anyone we know read the Tarot?”
“Well actually there’s an Attraction called The Psychic, but I just have to track him down and ask him if he’ll help us out. I hope he says yes but Sofie says he might want payment. What sort of payment do you think a psychic would take? Not like we can give him money…”
“I wouldn’t worry about it so much just now, I’m just happy that we have a way to potentially fix this!” the relief on Ghost’s face was evident as he beamed proudly at his lover for fixing this problem. It made him proud to call him a partner.
“Me too! Hey I want to go ask Psychic now, I think he’s in the Library, do you mind if I go?”
“Why not?” Ghost couldn’t help but sound a little sad but he felt worse when Magician rocked on his feet eagerly. His mate really wanted to get this done now because he couldn’t wait to physically hold him in front of everyone. The realization had Ghost turning the brightest shade of pink he’d ever been.
“Ghost are you okay?” Magician asked, immediately concerned with the way his lover’s alabaster skin turned an alarming shade of pink.
“Y-yes you idiot, I’m just really happy is all. Go ask the Psychic if he’ll help us and when you come back I’ll give you a special show!” he giggled as Magician gave a short cheer, blew him a kiss and then raced back into the elevator to take him to the library. Ghost continued to feel that warm, pleasant hum where his heart was located as he set about getting ready to give his lover his surprise.
He sat down on their bed and giggled, feeling overwhelmingly optimistic about what was going to happen later. They were going to be able to touch each other all the time! He’d be able to leave the apartment and make some friends, he was so lonely in here by himself all the time and he felt bad forcing Magician to stay with him when he knew his mate wanted to go and talk with his friends. Not that Ghost had ever had a chance to meet anyone in the Cage. Despite being a good actor he was shy to meet new people, especially in terms of how they reacted to his condition. Magician had told him that a lot of the Attractions were really nice and that he might be able to make more friends than he thought possible once they figured out to make him “visible” to everyone.
Right, now all he had to do was wait for Magician to show up with the Psychic and they could get this party started…well, not this party on the bed, that was just for Magician and himself for later. Grinning from ear to ear, Ghost went back to the living room to finish his documentary.
