In the palm of Gods

Miriam floated in a vast space, surrounded by fog.  Awareness came slowly followed by the realization that this was not normal. Upon realizing this she tried to remember what she had just been doing,  it seemed hard to remember for a moment then it came: Getting married to Edward. When she recalled that she suddenly remembered the man in the stained glassed window and thought perhaps she had passed out from stress. She remembered researching that when she started to plan her wedding. She slowly sat up, and realized she was on a solid oak floor, but looking around she didn’t recognize the room.

“Hello?” She called out nervously in the dimly lit room.

“Hello Miriam, we don’t have much time so you will need to listen carefully.” A man’s voiced echoed around her, she got the feeling that he was man used to commanding many and having those commands followed.

“Ok,” she answered wanting him to know she understood.

“You have been torn from the fabric of your time so that you can provide the aid required to repair the time rift here.”  A woman’s voice chimed in. Miriam could feel the love and companion in this woman, for a moment it made her long for the mother she never had. “Do you understand?”

“I understand what you want me to do but I’m not exactly sure how you expect me to accomplish it. That guy in the window was talking about magic powers, I’m just a normal human.”

“The magic he seeks is what you call technology. Although we are able to grant you some abilities you’re thinking of it would be dangerous and ineffective to do that due to your lack of training with them.” The male explained. “It is for that reason you will be using the items you brought with you in your bag. Your rifle will be powerful magic to these people and serve you well.”   Miriam knew he wasn’t referring to the .270 she used for hunting.  No, he was talking about military grade sniper rifle complete with silencer. It broke down into a compact case, it had been one of the many odd things her father had left behind for her after his mysterious disappearance almost ten years ago. She’d found many secrets her father left behind that still kindda scared her.  Which was saying something since she grew up on a primarily CIA base, all the adult she’d know worked for the agency and now many of her old playmates had join. It still surprised many to find out she hadn’t followed in her father’s footsteps, but she had been disillusioned when her father disappeared and no one seemed willing or able to help.

“Do no fear running out of ammunition; we have placed a blessing on your bag to replenish itself. That includes ammunitions, food, and medicine, all that is in there.” The female said again, cutting through Miriam’s thoughts before she could dwell to long on the past.  “Do what you can for these people, you will be hailed as a mighty sorceress, and they will show you the loyalty you will need. The Roman’s should have returned home to take care of strife at home but something has interrupted the course of fate and  the army has come back. We are bound by our laws not to interfere in the affairs of men, yet we cannot turn our backs when those who trust us cry out in agony for help. It is up to you to frighten them and drive them from this land to restore the balance. We cannot guide you more then we already have, it is up to you dear. Remember, you are your father’s daughter. Now wake up!”
