Chapter 4, A Brothers Comfort

Garand sighed as he lay in bed, staring up at the ceiling. “I wonder if Mil’s is still talking to that Lycan, of if she’s asleep…” He wondered, feeling a little protective if it was the first one. After all, she’d just gotten back…

She got up and walked down the halls wondering around as she walked past Garand’s room, Millie was trying hard not to wake anyone but she felt horrible inside and just couldn’t get the tears to stop.

He paused as he lay there, and turned his head thinking he heard something…”Millie..?” he asked himself quietly before getting up and moving to his door, opening it and peering out after she’d passed his room. “Mils…?” he asked, seeing her and immediately able to sent her tears, able to feel her distress. He came up behind her and slid his arms around her from behind just to hug her. “Hey…you’re crying…” He then turned her around, “Ah Mils, what happened?” he asked concerned.

She looked at him as she shook her head. “I’m…so stupid that’s all…I said something that really hurt and upset someone and I didn’t mean to.” She whispered holding onto Garand. “Did I wake you I’m sorry…”

He shook his head. “No…don’t apologize,” He said with a small smile. “It can’t be that bad…can it?” he asked, then looked around and put his arm around her, “Come on. Come in and talk with me okay?” He coaxed her leading the way towards his room. Wanting to help her the way she was always trying to help others.

She let him lead her into his room. She just needed to talk and Garand was wonderful in that way like a big brother. He never minded just talking with her. “But…it is.” She said softly.

Garand closed his door and let Millie sit on his bed, moving to sit next to her. “I don’t see how…I mean, what could my wonderful sister really have done that’s so bad? I can’t imagine anything.”

“Oh….but it is…” She said softly again, then told him what she had said to Kahi. “I shouldn’t have said something like that….I had no right to even talk to him that way…” she said softly looking down as the tears began to flow again.

He blinked a few times, trying to wrap his mind around the fact Millie had used ‘love’ in her comments to Kahi. He was going to ask about that, but when she started crying, it didn’t seem as important at the moment. He hugged her close and rubbed her back. “Oh, please don’t cry Mils…” He whispered, wishing he knew what to say…”You didn’t do anything wrong. It sounds like it’s been a very long night for both of you. You’re likely both just completely exhausted and everything sounds different, we react to things differently when we’re tired.”

She looked at him, and nodded slowly. He had to be right she leaned over and let her head rest against his shoulder. “Thank you Garand.” She whispered, she was tired and yawned a little now that she had calmed down some. “Thanks…for listening.”

He rested his cheek against the top of her head, and gave her a gentle squeeze as he held her. “Any time Millie…” he said with a small smile. “Come on, you need to get some rest…”

She hugged him and smiled. “We’ll talk more in the morning right?” She asked looking up at him. She knew her family life had changed a lot and wanted to catch up with him.

He nodded, “Of course. And if you need to talk again tonight, my door is always open for you sis. Come on, I’ll walk you to your room.” He said getting up and taking her hand. Then smiled a witty playful smile trying to cheer her up a little… “Hey, I’m not nearly as knowledgeable as Movado is to talk to, but I like to think I’m getting better in the listening and talking department,” Garand mused playfully wanting to get her to smile again before he let her go to bed. It was important to him to know Millie was smiling…

She did smile and hug him. “Hey, it’s just that. You’ll listen and talk. You’ll hear me out.” She said smiling brightly as she looked at her brother and then stepped back; she really was feeling much, much better now having talked with him.

Garand smiled and nodded, “Well, what are brothers for right?” He asked returning the hug. “I hope you sleep well, Mildune. Sweet dreams huh?”

Millie smiled she couldn’t help it around him. “Sure, sweet dreams Garand.”

He smiled back and slowly turned to head back down the hall to his room. Giving her a final wave good night before he slipped back into his room for the night…

Millie smiled as she ducked into her room, setting about getting ready for bed. She got changed and brushed out her long blue violet hair before turning in for the night.
