Pain and safety

The grey sky seemed extra bright today. So much to that it was hurting my eyes. I hadn’t slept at all last night, not after I woke up anyways.

A small dachshund dog passed me by along the road on my way to town, a.k.a. Hell.

It looked so adorable and innocent, I wished I were capable of owning an animal. Yet, I wasn’t even capable of taking care of myself, so how could I?

The Diner came into view and I cursed it, wishing for it to burn on sight, but I knew it wouldn’t.

Just before starting my shift, I decided I’d let myself go back to that place one more time. If that man was still there, I won’t let myself dream of that place ever again….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Reaching out, I found the carpet, and the room reappeared before me. I was once again on my back, as I usually was when the shadow brought me here.

Standing cautiously, I looked for any sign of the man.

I was alone.

‘Good!’ I though to myself and headed back to the musical instrument. I still didn’t believe completely that the man wouldn’t show up, so I’d try playing this instrument again and see if he would appear like before.

Slowly at first, I tried a new tune. It came a little difficult at first since my attention was more on the surroundings and less on the device, but I eventually found myself falling into rhythm.

My pace quickened, my heart thumped, and my voice rang out. I was alone and free to sing so long as no one was around to hear me. That was the way I liked it.

………………………………………………………………………………………………………......

Three days passed like that. They all played out like the first few days I dreamt of that room. I was alone, singing and happy. It was how I wished things to be like. Tonight, I couldn’t wait to get back to that room but I had to survive work first.

Today unfortunately wasn’t my day.

“What the hell are you talking about?” A man suddenly shouted. I recognized him as the man who owned and operated the police department, known as Tanner.

“What do you think I’m talking about? She’s a slut and you know it!” The man which the police was yelling at owned the bank and was named Barkley.

“You take that back! My wife would never lay with a bastard like you!”

“Oh yeah? I got the bed prints to prove it you pig!”

Suddenly, Tanner slugged Barkley a good one and sent him toppling over another couples table. It was a fight.

“What the hell do you thing you’re doing!?” Shouted Mrs. Cecilia from behind me. “Stop them before they wreck the whole Diner!” She shoved me then into the fray.

“Um, excuse me? But could you take this outside?” I asked as politely as I could.

WHACK!

I was hit hard in the jaw by Tanner.

“Who the hell do you think you are talking to us like that you filthy brat?” He asked. He was the one who had sentenced me to working here.

“Please take your argument outside and let the other-" WHACK! I was hit again, this time by one of the onlookers.

“What the hell do you think you’re doing? This is entertaining you little bastard! If you don’t like it, then get the hell out!” He slugged me again.

The rest of the customers in the Diner began nodding and shouting in agreement. Then, something hit me on the back of the head. It was a chicken pot pie fresh out of the oven. It burned the back of my head and made my eyes water.

Looking back in the direction which the pie had come from, I saw Mrs. Cecilia grinning from the kitchen.

Before I could even put the pieces together, more food came flying at me from the other customers. Some even began to throw glasses at me.

Frightened, I crawled out of the large mob which was forming around me and headed for the door.

“Look at him squirm!” Shouted a woman’s voice.

Everyone laughed, and some began to stomp on me. Finally, I made it outside and sprinted as fast as an injured deer away from that mess.

I ran to my little hide out in the dump. I had made it out of doors to look similar to the shack, but it was smaller and hidden by old run down cars. Even the police didn’t know of my little hide away.

My entire body hurt, but I couldn’t do anything about it. So I lay down, allowing myself to drift to sleep.

It was suddenly warm. My head was throbbing and my throat was dry. I didn’t know where I was, but it felt comfortable.

Suddenly, some one was at my side. He was saying something to me, but I couldn’t make out the words.

I felt him lift my head up and put a rag on my face. The cold, damp cloth then helped me to wake up more. My vision cleared and I found myself looking into the face of the stranger from my dream.

“What happened to you?” He asked eyes full of worry.

I had no idea who this guy was, so why would he worry about me? Then I remembered, I was probably dreaming.

“Same as usual.” I croaked in a dry voice.

The man then lifted me up princess style and began carrying me to the wall painted in the scenery of a meadow.

“Where are you taking me?” I asked, now fully aware that I was being taken somewhere I didn’t know.

“There’s a doctor who works in this building. He can help you.” The man answered. “Just don’t fall asleep, I think you might have a concussion.”

“I think I’m already asleep.” I answered honestly.

There was a door hidden around a corner of the wall that I had never noticed. We exited through it and were then standing at the head of a tall set of white marble stares with a red velvet carpet aligned along the
middle of it.

The man carefully yet quickly went down them.

My legs dangled limply and my head rolled back and forth. My strength felt like it had been completely drained from me. There was no way I’d be able to make it to work in the morning.

“What time is it?” I then asked.

“8:37 P.M.” The stranger hastily answered.

I last recall that I had probably left work around three in the afternoon which meant I had been unconscious for five hours now, so it was most likely dark out.

I didn’t pay attention to the various turns in which we took, but I do remember standing outside a door with numerous people surrounding us. Each one was even better looking than the last. It was a whole crowd of bishounen and they were all gawking at me as though I were the 8th wonder of the world.

“Is that him?” They asked the man carrying me, who simply nodded in response.

They all looked at each other in amazement and horror.

“What happened?”

“Will he be alright?”

“Some one get Doctor Fern!”

It was strange having so many people worry about me. I felt like the most popular person in the room all of a sudden. Then the door we were waiting outside of opened and out stepped the handsomest doctor I had ever seen.

“Take him in here Blake. Every one else must stay out and let the boy have some air!” He commanded the handsome men while allowing the man to carry me in.

I was lain out on a doctors bed with the stranger, Blake, holding my hand.

“Don’t worry, Fern is the best doctor in all of Mooncrest. He won’t let you die.”

Die? I wondered to myself. Am I going to die?
