Chapter Four
After Aiden’s phone call, he went to the park to stall time. He still didn’t think he could face Kai right now. He definitely wasn’t ready to tell Kai how he felt and he was scared he might if he saw him. For a few hours all he did was sit in the park and watched the leaves fall from the trees. Finally Aiden pushed himself off the small wooden bench and walked to his car. The park was only one block from the apartment. He made it to the apartment in less than three minutes. The apartment complex was small and there was an unfamiliar car in his parking space, forcing him to park in one of the three visitors spaces. Whoever it was needed to move it. He had already had two citations. The rule at the complex was: “Five citations, five days to pack”. He couldn’t afford anymore. He locked his car and ran up the stairs two at a time. He went to unlock the door but found it already open. Strange, he thought, he knew he had locked it when he left. He let the idea pass and walked in.
He was greeted with incriminating noises. He heard moans and the headstand banging into the wall. He immediately recognized the high-pitched squeal and he was horrified! Dylan had betrayed him. Something came over Aiden that he could not control. He bolted down the small hallway and flung open the door. As soon as he did he immediately regretted it. He could have gone his whole life without seeing those sights. He slammed the door shut and ran down the hall into his room. He KNEW he could not stay here right now. He began stuffing whatever clothes that were in easy reach and stuffed them in his duffel bag.
“Aiden, what are you doing?” called Kai. “Come out, I can explain.”
“Oh your actions speak louder than your words. No, wait, I mean your fucking orgasms, you bitch!”
“Why are you so upset? Why are you acting like this?”
“Why am I acting like this? Well, maybe it’s because I remember how you were when he broke your heart. He wasn’t there to see what he had done. I was. I picked up the pieces of your heart and tried to help you duct tape them back together! And now you’re back with that dirty whore?! I will not stay here as long as this is going on. Have a nice life getting shit on again.”
And at that Aiden stormed out of his room, shoved the still naked Kai out of the way, and ran down the stairs. He flung open his car door and jumped in. For a few minutes he sat and collected himself. He stabbed the key into the ignition and peeled out. Leian wasn’t off of work yet but he had a spare key to her apartment. She had a guest room and he knew she wouldn’t mind if he crashed for a while.
“I’m sorry. I knew I shouldn’t have come over. It was too fast,” sobbed Dylan as he started to pull on his clothes.
“No, we’ll be fine. He’s just in shock right now. It’ll all blow over in a few days. You know how dramatic Aiden can get,” said Kai comfortingly, pulling Dylan down onto his lap into a warm embrace. He kissed Dylan’s temple softly and just let the boy cry. What if Aiden couldn’t get over it? What if he had just lost his best friend?
“Come on, let’s go take a nap. I’m just a little exhausted. Ha, I guess you DID make me holler until I passed out,” joked Kai, trying to lighten the mood.
Kai layed next to Dylan, soothing him to a deep sleep. Kai, however, couldn’t sleep. He just lay as still as possible and contemplated what had happened in the past few hours. Sure he thought he was happy with Dylan, but it just didn’t feel the same. And he didn’t think it was because he still felt betrayed by him. He knew how that felt and it just wasn’t the same. He thought for so long that he still loved Dylan, but now he wasn’t so sure. He would definitely have to think about his last few decisions. He let the occurrences weigh on his mind. When he thought that Dylan had fallen deep enough into sleep, he got up and called Caz, but all he got was her voicemail.
“God Caz, I hope you didn’t get into another wreck. Anyway, look, if you talk to Aiden anytime soon, tell him to call me. Dylan and I are kinda back together, by the way. I’ll explain later. You know how Aiden feels about him. Um, so I guess I’ll talk to you later then. Bye.” He hung up the phone and bent down to pick up Fuzz.
“Hey buddy, how you doing? Daddy is sorry you had to witness that. I can only imagine how hard it must’ve been for you,” said Kai as he stroked the furry creature. “God,” he spoke out loud, “first I talk to a ferret and now I’m speaking to myself. What is wrong with me?”
He all of a sudden felt so confused about where his life was heading. It was so true that one bad decision could ruin your life. He had just witnessed it firsthand. He always managed to screw things up. The band was doing great, he and Aiden were ahead on their rent, and he had just got paid a huge sum of money babysitting goldfish for some PETA activists. And now where was he? Without a band front-man and a freeloading ex-boyfriend asleep in his bed, that’s where. And he knew that Aiden wouldn’t be over himself by next Tuesday and the band would have to cancel the show at the Cherry Cherry Boom Boom club.
Hopefully Aiden would be staying with Leian. He figured she could talk more sense into him than Caz could. Plus, Caz still lived with Savvy and Kai didn’t want Savvy knowing his sexual preferences quite yet.
