Love Begets Love

A/N: To Surrealtraversity. Thanks for the review. Don’t worry, you will be getting a happy ending. But that won’t be anytime soon. Not yet. There are still a lot of things ahead. 


Jeremy silently sat on the dinner table and pretended that he heard nothing earlier. Gael is sitting in front of him and has been giving him malicious stares. He wanted so much to tell his dad about what Gael did earlier. But he is also afraid that Gael would retaliate and tell his grandfather and his dad about Charles. Of course his dad would not like what Gael did, he will dearly pay for what he tried on Jeremy. But Jeremy is also certain that his dad would not like hearing about Charles. The consequence of telling would be worse. So Jeremy decided to keep his mouth shut, for now.

Jeremy could not stomach the food. After what he heard earlier, he became more uncomfortable anywhere near his grandfather and his cousin. This day had been too much to bear for him. And all he wanted right now was to be in his room, and call Charles.

The dinner was long, his grandfather and dad talked everything about business and their properties, which he knew nothing about. Jeremy was thankful that his grandfather did not mention anything about what he heard earlier. Maybe he forgot about it already, and Jeremy was certain that his dad tried everything to keep his grandfather occupied with a lot of other topics. His dad obviously does not want to bring up anything about it.

After some more agonizing minutes, the dinner was finally over. Jeremy stayed close to his father and avoided Gael’s meaningful gazes. He will have to deal with Gael sooner. But he is just so tired right now.

He was so relieved when he found out that his dad will be out for the night with his grandfather and cousin. They will have their fun. And since he is still too young to join them, he was told to sleep instead. He was just so happy to comply. He also found out that his father will be out for two days in a row. Which means, he will have more freedom to sneak out and be with Charles. Especially that Charles has no trips planned for the whole week.

Before Gregory left for a business trip, he sent for his son to talk to him.

“Dad, you wanted to see me?” Jeremy asked his father. Gregory is at his study scanning some of his files.

“Yes, son… I will be leaving soon and I need to have a word with you before I leave. I won’t be back after two weeks so…”

“T- two weeks?.. Dad… w- why that long?...” Jeremy was surprised. He was thinking that his father will be gone only for two days, not two weeks.

“There’s an emergency in one of our businesses which badly needs my attention and your grandfather sent for me. You know I could not refuse him. I hate to leave you here alone so I decided that you will stay with your grandfather while I’m away…”

H- his grandfather?... For two weeks?.... With his grandfather…. And Gael?....

“Dad… please.. don’t make me stay there… I will be fine here… Cleo is with me… He will take care of me…” Jeremy does not want to stay at his grandfather’s house. That would mean a lot of people will be watching his back. How will he be able to see Charles now? And Gael… he would never want to be anywhere near his cousin!

“Son, listen to me… I want you safe…”

‘Safe? How could he be safe if he’s near Gael?’ Jeremy thought. But of course he could not tell his father about Gael.

“Dad, please… I will do everything you want… please… just don’t send me to live with grandfather… please dad… I promise I’ll be good… I promise I won’t leave the house… Just please let me stay here… please…I will be fine… I promise…” Jeremy hugged his father.

“Jeremy…” As soon as Jeremy hugged him, Gregory instantly knew that he would lose. He could not bare to make his son miserable. Even he himself was also thinking that maybe it won’t be a good idea to send his son to live with his father. He knows his father all too well. Rufus is well aware of his son’s beauty, and all those who aspire to have his son. The main reason why he hates to show off Jeremy to parties and balls. The more people who would know Jeremy, there would be more threats to snatch his son. And Gregory is not yet ready to give his son away. “Okay… you win….”

“R- really?!” Jeremy’s expression lit up. “I love you dad! So much!” Jeremy planted kisses on his father’s cheeks.

“Okay, okay… but you should promise me you would not go out of the house… I want you here. The moment I learn from the guards or any other person in this house that you went out, I will call your grandfather to fetch you here…”

“I promise! I promise! Thank you dad!” Jeremy said. He knew his father well. And he would rather spend the next two weeks confined in the house than to be in the ever watchful eyes of his grandfather.

“Your tutor will be coming here every afternoon as usual. And you can invite your friends over. I just don’t want you going out. It’s not safe. I promise we will have some time out when I return. Okay?” Gregory hated to leave Jeremy but he was left with no choice. He will make it up to his son when he returns. He swore to himself.

“You’re the greatest dad.”

Gregory already left a while ago and it wasn’t long before Jeremy got bored. He wanted to see Charles. But he knew that the risk is too high. There are new guards in the house whom he could not bribe easily. His father made specific instructions to those guards. He was watching tv when his phone rang.

It was Charles.

“Hello, angel…”

“I miss you…” Those were the very first words that Jeremy uttered upon hearing his lover’s voice. He wanted to cry. He misses Charles terribly. It was already two days since he last saw him and he just can’t sneak out easily.

“I know… I miss you too… Open the door to your terrace, angel… I have a surprise for you…”

“What is it?” Jeremy excitedly rose from his bed and went to the terrace of his room.

“Just open the door.”

The door was all glass, and the wall was also made of glass. But at night, Jeremy closes the curtains that hang on those glass wall and door.

When Jeremy opened the door, he came face to face with Charles.

“Y- you didn’t?!” Jeremy smiled widely. It was really Charles! “H- How did you….?” Jeremy could not believe his eyes.

“Since you could not come to see me… I came to see you instead…. I just can’t wait to see you, angel…” The two kissed.

“But how did you…” Jeremy asked between kisses.

“Cleo… he helped me…” Charles replied. “He just could not bear to see you so lonely and miserable. But he just warned me to be careful… As long as I am here for the week… I can come see you late at night… when everybody is asleep… and I have to leave before a single soul wakes up…”

“Oh....you are such a thief!....” Jeremy smiled.

“A very handsome thief indeed…”

The two wasted no time and started to undress each other. They made love… there was still a little pain, but it was bearable for Jeremy.

They made love twice that night.

It was the same every night, as promised, Charles sneaked in to be with Jeremy. When it’s time to go, Charles would no longer wake his young lover and will just give him a kiss on the cheek. And every morning, when Jeremy wakes up, he will find a single rose on his bedside table, from Charles.


After the second week of Gregory’s absence, he called to inform Jeremy that he will be extending another week in the business site. And since it will only be for one week, he thought it best to send Jeremy to live with his grandfather. This time, Gregory did not allow Jeremy to stay in the house. Gregory thought that it is unhealthy for his son to be living alone. But he made specific instructions to Cleo to watch over his son intently.

Jeremy was not feeling very well. He vomited earlier that morning, and he was feeling dizzy. He was also very pale. It did not escape Cleo’s eyes.

They were on the car their way to his grandfather’s house.

“Jeremy, are you okay?” Cleo asked with concern.

“I… I feel dizzy… I…I don’t feel very well….”

“As soon as we arrive, you take your rest. You don’t look good either.”

When they reached the house, Jeremy instantly went to the room given to him and fell asleep. Cleo watched over him with concern in his eyes. He was sitting on the couch, watching his sleeping ward. He would not leave Jeremy alone even for a moment in that house. He would not give Gael a chance to be near his ward.

After some time, he heard the door open and saw Gael enter.

“Leave us… I have to talk to my cousin alone.” Gael ordered.

Cleo stood up. But with no intention of leaving. “I’m sorry, Sir. But I have specific instructions from his father, Sir Gregory… that I would not leave my ward alone, with anyone… and that includes you…”

Gael was not able to answer. He knew Cleo would not leave. So he immediately left the room defeated. He will find his chance sooner. He banged the door when he left.

“W- who was that?....” Jeremy was awakened with the banging of the door.

“Gael… He came here and asked me to leave.” Cleo replied. He went near his ward’s bed.

“No…” Jeremy suddenly felt afraid.

“It’s okay…. I would never do that… He will never get anywhere near you… How are you feeling?” Cleo asked with concern.

“ Still the same… I don’t know what’s wrong with me… I just feel so dizzy…”

“Go back to sleep. I will wake you when dinner’s ready. I’, sure your grandfather is very busy with his work and he wouldn’t mind.” Cleo is becoming more suspicious with Jeremy’s condition. And he is hoping that Gregory arrives soon… and Rufus would not know about it first. It would not be good news to everybody… but it would be better if Gregory knows first.


Jeremy was trying so hard to control himself from vomiting. The smell of the food at the dinner table is keeping him nauseous.

“Jeremy, you are not eating.” Rufus said. “You are not touching your food.”

“I- I don’t feel like eating, grandpa… I think I’m just tired….C- can I go upstairs to my room?” Jeremy could not stand the smell of the food.

“Okay, Cleo, tell the maids to give Jeremy something to eat in his room.” Jeremy is glad his grandfather is in a good mood right now. He immediately stood up and went upstairs. He went directly to the bathroom and vomited. Cleo was right behind him.

“Cleo…. I don’t feel well….” Jeremy is trying to hold on to the sink. His surroundings is spinning and suddenly, the world went dark.

Jeremy woke up in bed, and Cleo was wiping his face with a warm towel.

“Cleo…W- what is wrong with me?.... I’ve been feeling like this for two days now…” He asked as he tried to sit up.

“Jeremy… I… I’m not sure yet…but…all the signs… your being nauseous… dizzy… paleness… but you might be pregnant…”

“P- pregnant?....” Even if he was not feeling good, Jeremy could not help but smile. He is pregnant… He is pregnant with Charles’ baby!

“Yeah… I think you are…Jeremy… we should keep this from your grandfather… He should not know about this…yet…”

Cleo knew Rufus very well. He would not approve of this. Unlike Gregory, he does not have a heart. He would never allow his grandson to marry a Montgomery. Not in a million years. And he would not allow Jeremy to have this child.

“ I know… I will tell dad when he arrives…We should keep this from grandpa… I don’t want him to know either… I just can’t wait for dad to arrive… and Charles… I must tell Charles!” Jeremy excitedly took his phone and dialed Charles’ number.

“Angel, you sound very excited….” Charles said upon hearing Jeremy’s voice.

“Charles! Cleo said… that I might be pregnant!” Jeremy explained, trying to hide his excitement.

“R- really?! Really baby?.... I love you so much… I love you!... You take care of yourself okay?... Tell me when your father arrives, and I will face him… to ask your hand in marriage. I will be arriving tomorrow and I can’t wait to see you…!” Charles could not hide his excitement as well. He is overjoyed. He is going to be a father soon! “Please let me talk to Cleo for a while…”

Jeremy handed the phone to Cleo. “Cleo… please take good care of Jeremy… don’t ever keep your eyes off him… please keep him and our baby safe….” Charles was rambling.

“You don’t have to tell me that… Just be sure to fulfill your promise to Jeremy…”

“Of course I will… I love him so much… and I will do everything to gain his father’s approval… Thank you so much, Cleo.”


Jeremy could not sleep that night. He was counting the days of his father’s arrival. He just have to endure some more. He will stay in the room so that he will be far from the prying eyes of everybody, especially his grandfather and Gael.

It has been two days and no incident passed. He tried to act as normal as possible in front of his grandfather and Gael. It was a relief that they only shared dinner. His grandfather and Gael are always gone during the day.

Just one more day and his dad will fetch him. They talked over the phone the other night and he learned that Gregory will be on the plane home first thing in the morning.

Morning came and Jeremy was ready to go home. Cleo packed his bags the night before and they will just wait for his dad. He was planning on telling his dad on their way home.

He was on the room watching tv when his grandfather burst in. His face was pale and he was trembling. Rufus was holding his phone.

“Grandpa…i- is something wrong?” Jeremy asked.

“Jeremy… y- your father’s plane… crashed…your father… is feared dead….”

Jeremy was not able to hear the other words that his grandfather said. His world suddenly went blank.
