Rain
Through cracked lips and damaged vocal cords Rain cried out once more into the dark as she attempted to rip herself from what was holding onto her. She had been screaming for hours and it seemed no matter how much she cried the pain never eased. They had strapped her to what felt like molded rock and though the freezing room was pitch black she knew her injuries were reaching those of the dead man swinging in front of her rapidly. They had made her watch. Distorted men, devils, had actually held her eyes open and forced her to watch as they tortured the man to death before taking their pleasures out on her broken body. The memory of it was enough to rip another heart wrenching scream from her before she fell back and prayed for what seemed like the thousandth time that day. God would not abandon her she knew but even as the thought passed through her mind Rain felt a fresh wave of doubt and tears fell harsher down her skin. She began to talk to herself as would anyone losing hope in her situation. Speaking riddles to herself and banging her head against the wall before remembering who she was and began screaming again. She tried to remember Samantha, her brothers, friends, William…anyone with a face she could hold onto and kept her mind intact as she heard the steps of approaching men. They walked with such a grace that complimented their scaly forms, like serpents taunting their prey. Rain held her tears in with the intention of clearing her eyes and kept them both in eye shot though it was difficult as the dark hid them completely in certain areas of the cell. She cringed when one suddenly released her from her bonds and fell gracelessly to the floor while crying as a new pain shot through her leg.
“Up!” One commanded but the other didn’t wait for her to obey as he grabbed onto her hair and pulled her from the room and down a deserted hall.
“It can walk Azel.” The first one laughed
“To little pain.” Was all he said as he pulled open a door ignoring Rain’s scream when he flung her inside before following with a toothy grin. He enjoyed this stage of his job. Breaking the cattle was such a satisfying thing and he couldn’t help but feel a rush as he watched Rain take advantage of her new found freedom and run down the maze of halls. Didn’t she know it wasn’t wise for the prey to run from the predator?

She was in hell. Rain just knew it as she remembered fire and then darkness and now pain. Her life had been less then what was approved of but she hadn’t thought it was bad enough to deserve this. Bad enough to be a devil’s plaything? Rain wasn’t sure but she did know that for whatever reason she was a broken doll. A glass girl shattered and bleeding liquid maggots. Only the shadows were witness to her limp form broken in several places, caked with old blood and burning from fever and starvation. They had stopped feeding her when one of the snake men mounted her expecting her to suck him and instead she bit his manhood off all together. It had left a happy place in her heart to hear him bleed to death since the others didn’t realize in time and even the whip lashing hadn’t made the smile disappear from her lips. It wasn’t until they took her food away days ago that she began to regret it and now as she lay motionless on the floor Rain began to vow to behave if she lived through this night.

She had begun to write on the walls. Shakily and unsteady Rain wrote lines of her name, of memories and of days anything to keep herself from becoming the animal they were training her to be. They, serpent shape shifters, came once a day and after three months she learned to count the time by their visits though she was always to broken to write it until just before the next visit if at all. To say she was accurate with her calendar would be a lie but it was something at least and it kept her sane with the hope that she could be released. Ignoring her broken finger and the cold against her naked skin Rain traced the jagged rock in her hands to make an R before jumping into a fetal position when the doors to her prison were opened. A young boy was pushed through and one look into his empty and bloodied eyes sockets told Rain that a new day had come. They hadn’t bothered to string her up as she had given up on fighting and pulled the boy into a sitting position. He was crying, she knew though there were no eyes to prove it and she watched stone faced as one of the men ripped him of his clothes and raped him from behind hissing at the tightness. She wanted to scream, she wanting to throw something, she wanted to claw off her skin and make it all end but she did nothing because she knew nothing would save her life. Tears fell silently from her emerald eyes as another man grabbed hold of the boys arm and sliced it off with ease before devouring it. She gagged; the boy was a fit of hysterics and screams while a third man settled himself behind her caressing her exposed skin. The fourth simply watched with a coldness that stabbed Rain through her heart as she shook uncontrollably and tried to ignore the scaled fingers working their way to her inner thigh. The boy was drifting between consciousness and unconsciousness and while the first finished his attack on him the second was beginning his feast on the child’s leg. It wasn’t until Rain heard the boy whisper in a broken voice ‘daddy’ that she lost the little control she had left realizing that the child was talking to the man watching with such contentment. His own son? It was with that question Rain felt the fire inside her veins, a feeling she had only ever felt once before. Her skin burned and her eyes felt melted shut as her skin began to glow. The fire started in her eyes then spread down her body in a lightshow of red before it exploded. She remembered this sting of heat when she fell into darkness, into Medo, and she welcomed it. She wanted to burn them all...
