Episode 4

What in the holy blazes was happening?!

For a moment, her mind went blank. The whole world melted into oblivion. He stood in front of her, waving at her. That, was all she could focus on. But just as suddenly as it had happened, it all ended just as suddenly. She never felt more like kicking Jules or slamming her head into the wall as much as that moment. She could feel her face burning up like a forest fire. She felt so mortified at herself, to think she ever thought he would be waving at her. He is waving to Jules, his friend, not a total stranger like her. An ugly one to say the least. She saw how he looked on curiously as Jules said something unintelligible to her. Most probably a byebye or something on that line. Nothing registered to her at that moment, nothing except him. Everything else was just a buzz of sounds. Sorry Jules.

She mumbled her goodbyes incoherently to Jules, her attention fully focused on him. She made her way away as fast as she can, willing herself not to make a fool of herself a second time. Once is more than enough, did you want him to think that you are a fool?! She berated herself silently, swiftly avoiding the piercing look that she felt Jules was sending her way. He most likely wondered what was up with her strange behavior the moment she got off the bus. If he is as perceptive as he seemed to be on the bus journey, he may already start to have suspicions about her. No thanks to your stupid actions, gaping like a goldfish in the middle of nowhere like a lovestruck schoolgirl. She couldn't help but groan at her own actions.

"What the hell is wrong with that girl! I asked her what time her classes are ending and she tells me goodbye!?! Is she dumb or deaf?"
"Hey Jules, who are you grumbling about early in the morning? Got dumped again?"

"You, shutup. When did I ever get dumped?!"
"Always? So, what's the deal this time? You look pretty pissed."

"That girl I came down the bus with, she hasn't told me how to get home and I didn't get her contact number! I do not fancy going to the police station like some old man who doesn't know his way home."
"Woah woah, hold your horses. First thing first, why do you need to ask that chick how to get home? Did you just move in with your girlfriend and conveniently forget to inform us?"

"Stop joking. She is no chick and she is the one I am staying with since last friday. Her dad is a good friend of my old man."
"Oh, so she is the one you mentioned the other day. She looks a tad familiar though, I think I have seen her around, somewhere."

"We have. She is from our school."
"That explains. But, is there something on my face or what? She looked at me with an expression as though the truck knocked her down just now when she came down from the bus."

"Yeah. I wonder what got into her suddenly. Maybe I was talking too much."
"Oh so now you know you talk too much?"

"You know what Ben? YOU, are definitely not one to be in the position to talk to me about talking too much."
"Well, I was merely agreeing with what you said. Like a good friend. So how is the new place? Are you used to it yet?"

"They are, different. Very different from the kind of family life I used to have. They spend their Sundays together for one."
"Really? Even the girl? That is rare for a teenager."

"Yeah, I thought so too. Like, maybe she was forced to? But, they really enjoy having dinners together. Talking about their day. Man, if they didn't have the occasional squabble over TV, Sarah's ice-cream addiction and what-nots, I would have totally voted them for 'Model Family of the Year'."
"Sarah?"

"Yeah, that's the girl's name."
"Nice name."

"You would do well do keep your eyes and hands off her. She doesn't seem to be the sort you can play around with and expect to get away with it. A real firebrand this one."
"Someone is fitting in the Big Brother role very well eh, relax man. I prefer my girls with long hair and a more, how to put this, sexier body shape? Gisele Bündchen? I totally dig that one. Keira Knightly is pretty hot too and Anne Hathaway is looking good recently."

"If you try hard enough, maybe you can score a date with your neighbour."
"HEY!! A guy can dream can't he!"
