Secrets

I smiled as I watched Carmella dance with some guy on the dance floor. Astra and Sabrina had gone to... play. Shivering, I turned around in the chair and ordered another drink. Smiling at the bartender, I thanked him and waited. As soon as I had began drinking someone came to occupy the chair beside me.

"Nice choice." The very male voice complimented. I gumped down another drink before glancing over at him.

"Thanks." I muttered, looking back for Carmella. She was gone. Shit.

"Do you dance?" he asked suddenly. I turned then to look at him. He had sandy blond hair and emerald green eyes. I just needed to see the twinkle in his eye to realize what he was. A vampire. I wanted nothing else to do with him, then. Hell, I didn\'t want anything to do with him in the beginning. I didn\'t even know the guy!

"No." I answered curtly, turning back around. He smiled. "Aww, come on! I know that you dance--"

"I\'m taken." I said quickly, pulling the necklace Valentine had given me out from between my breasts. It was a pure silver necklace with the letter B in the middle. His face seemed to falter then.

"...Blaque." He sneered. "I\'ve heard of the little human girl," My hackles rose when he called me a girl. "Valentine was allowing to live with him in the mansion."

"Tell me, is he a good lover?" he asked, leaning closer to me. I pulled my head back before answering with a sneer. "Better than any other." He laughed, then.

"I suppose you haven\'t had anyone else than him, huh?" My jaw tightened.

"Harassing more friends of mine, Julian?" A woman asked. I felt a hand on my shoulder. Carmella.

"Oooh, Carmella. I didn\'t know you would be here. Where have you been?" he asked, standing.

"Leave voluntarily, Julian or we\'ll unvoluntarily help you leave." Carmella threatened, hissing.

"We?"

"Yes." Astra and Sabrina suddenly showed up behind him, their hands on his shoulders. He seemed to stiffen before smiling.

"Seems like it\'s time for me to go. I\'ll see you around, Ms. Blaque." he said, quickly disappearing from the bar. When they were sure he was gone, they all laughed.

"What have you done to get into trouble this time?" Astra asked. My mouth opened to retort, but it was quickly cut off by Carmella.

"I think it\'s time for us to get back home." she announced. Before I knew it, I was sitting back in the car.

"Whoa, whoa. Wait! Who was he?" I asked as the car drove off.

"That was Julian Law," Sabrina began to explain. "A friend of Virgil\'s, an annoyance for Valentine."

"Why?" I asked.

Sabrina sighed. "Julian doesn\'t like the fact that Valentine is allowing you to stay at the manor."

"So?"

"Julian, like Virgil, is wanting Valentine to give you up." Astra cut in before Sabrina could finish.

I felt like I was repeating myself when I asked, "Umm, why?"

"They feel like Valentine is being selfish by keeping you to himself. What you don\'t realize is, when a vampire has a human, no one cares because they know they\'re just feeding from you, but we\'re not the only ones that\'s noticed."

"Noticed what?"

"That Valentine isn\'t feeding from you anymore. He\'s getting his blood from someone else." This time, Carmella answered my question.

"Is it someone from inside the manor?" I asked. Sabrina shook her head.

"No. It\'s someone else. It\'s coming from someone outside the manor. But, that\'s not what\'s bothering them. What\'s bothering them is the fact that they think Valentine might be falling in love with you."

I wasn\'t getting it. "So, what\'s so bad about that?"

All three sisters looked at me with surprise.

"Don\'t you know why Valentine keeps Lilith?"

I shook my head. I was completely clueless. I always did wonder why Valentine kept Lilith and always sided with her, but--

Carmella looked at her two sisters before saying, "Ariana, I will tell you because you have the right to know and whatever happens, I will take full responsibility."

"Okay..." I said slowly.

Before the car completely stopped, the door to my side was open and I was out, running through the doors of the manor.

"VALENTINE!" I screamed.

Valentine had just finished negotiating with Virgil when they heard an angry scream from Ariana. Valentine couldn\'t think of any reason why she would be angry, but he knew human women was confusing like that. He caught the scent of the sisters, but paid no mind to them. They never made her angry. He immediately ignored Virgil as he left to meet her. As he appeared behind her, he was surprised to be caught with her fist in his stomach.

I could feel him much better than I could any other time. Usually, I wouldn\'t know where he was, but this time. I knew where the bastard was. When he appeared behind me, I turned around and let my fist fly. I could tell he was surprised by the look on his face.

"What is the meaning of this Ariana!" he yelled at me. My eyes narrowed as I reared my hand back to punch him again. He quickly caught it.

"Stop this, Ariana!"

"When were you going to tell me!" I screamed at him.

"Tell you what!" he yelled back, his eyes more red than usual.

"That you\'re to mark Lilith!" The surprise on Valentine\'s face was all I needed to see.

"Who told you?" he asked.

"Does it matter?! That\'s why you won\'t mark me. That\'s why you keep her around. You\'re going to make Lilith your Queen!"

"You need to calm down, Ariana. I was--"

"You were going to what? What in fuck\'s name were you going to do? Tell me the night before you mark that bitch?! What the fuck were you going to do?" I asked, my tone dark.

"So, it is true, Valentine. You hadn\'t told Ms. Delgado about Lilith." Virgil cut in, leaning against a beam in the foyer.

Valentine bared his fangs at him, his eyes black. "Shut. Up." Virgil put his hands up, promising to be quiet.

Valentine looked back to me, his eyes narrowed. "I was going to tell you soon!" he growled, his nails lengthening. I realized Valentine was angry and usually I would care, but right now, I didn\'t. I couldn\'t believe he kept this from me.

"When were you going to tell me, Valentine?" I asked, my emotions a little more calmed. I didn\'t feel like yelling anymore.

He was silent. My eyes began to sting and it took all of me not to start crying. I placed my hand on Valentine\'s cheek, staring into his eyes.

"I have a few questions for you, Valentine and please, please be honest with me.\'\' I whispered. Valentine didn\'t answer me, but I knew he understood. I took in a deep breath and tried to prepare myself for the answers.

My heart began to race.

"Were you going to tell me?" I asked softly.

Valentine\'s jaw clenched before shaking his head.

Faster.

"Did you expect me stay?"

He gave me a slight nod.

Faster.

"Will you leave her?"

He shook his head.

By this time, I couldn\'t stop the tears, but I kept myself together.

"This... This is the last question. I promise." I whispered, my hand caressing the soft skin of his cheek.

He nodded, his eyes returning to their natural ruby red.

I pulled myself together before asking, "If I left, would you come for me?"

It seemed as if time had slowed and no one else was in the room as I watched Valentine slowly shake his head. I nodded and gave him a sad smile before pulling my hand away.

"Then I wish you great happiness." I said as I looked towards Carmella, Sabrina, and Astra.

"It\'s been fun you guys," I said to them with a smile. Sabrina looked as if she was going to break.

Don\'t leave, Ariana. she said to me. I shook my head.

He\'s made his choice. I replied. Her eyes widened and I could only smile.

Surprised, huh? I\'ve been practicing. Being around you guys have really taught me some things, but I won\'t abuse it. I promise. I winked at her before looking back to Valentine.

"Don\'t worry. I won\'t speak of this place to anyone." I rose my hand to touch his face one last time, but immediately let it fall. The next words I said was something I had hoped I would never have to say.

"I, Ariana Delgado renounce my love for you, Valentine Blaque." As I stared at Valentine, I saw that his eyes began changing again. I knew he would not like it, but it would have to be done. I turned to leave, but I was soon stopped by his hand on my wrist.

"I did not give you permission to leave." I turned my head back to look at him, my face emotionless.

"You don\'t have to." I said, my voice deceptively gentle. Valentine let me go, his mouth in a thin line. I walked away, leaving the manor\'s doors and outside to the world I was once used to. Where I should be.

Ana... Hearing the name, I closed my eyes and shut them out. No more.

As the manor doors closed, Virgil looked to Valentine with a smirk on his face. "Well, at least she\'s free game."

During the time of the argument, Christopher had entered the room along with others of the pack. It was Christopher and his brother Deacon that had to hold Valentine back from killing Virgil.

"This is what you\'ve been waiting for, isn\'t Virgil!" Valentine growled, pulling at the two brothers. Virgil ran his fingers through his short hair.

"Well, this isn\'t exactly how I was looking for her to leave, but I guess it\'ll do."

"You--"

"You\'d better leave, Virgil before we let change our minds and let him go." Deacon hissing at Virgil.

Virgil noticed the rest of Valentine\'s pack and didn\'t wish to chance it. "Very well. I know when I\'ve over-stayed my welcome. Good Evening to you all." Virgil said before disappearing.

The two brothers soon let Valentine go, patting him on the back.

"It\'ll be all right. I\'m pretty sure Virgil won\'t be back again." Christopher said.

"Yeah. And if he comes back too soon, we\'ll take care of him." Deacon put in, waving the other vampires away.

Deacon and Christopher looked at each other when Valentine didn\'t move. Lilith made her way through the crowd of vampires to come to Valentine.

"Oh, Valentine. Are you okay?" she asked, her lips on his neck. "It\'s all right, my love. I\'ll--"

Valentine\'s growl cut her off as he pushed her off of him. "Stay the fuck off me." he said before leaving the foyer.

Lilith as well as Christopher and Deacon chose to watch him leave, deciding to let him cool off before asking him about Ariana. Lilith was more than pissed off. Even when that little bitch was gone, she was still causing problems for her. They should have killed that little whore.

"As Queen of Blaque Manor, I order the two of you to kill Ariana." Deacon and his brother just looked at her.

"Lilith, you\'re not queen and I hope you\'ll never be." One said.

"I second that brother. I\'m actually waiting for Valentine to kill you." The other said before the two walked off. Lilith\'s fangs bit into her bottom lip, her anger getting the best of her.

"Fuck!!"

I sniffed as I wrapped my arms around myself. It really didn\'t occur to me how cold it was outside until I left. Whenever I was in the manor, the temperature was always set to my liking. Now, it was different. With no friends and family, I had nowhere to go. I felt like a complete dumbass wearing this damned corset and skirt, wearing laced up boots. I must look like a fucking hooker. I inwardly berated myself. As I walked across an intersection, I ignored the beeps of horns and the yells and whistles of a male from the car nearby.

"Hey, baby! Come here!" he shouted with another whistle.

I took slow, calming breaths as I continued to walk down the sidewalk. The lights were a little dimmer than the bright ones out in the road and it seemed a little cooler. It wasn\'t long that I began to get paranoid. With every step I took, it felt as if someone was following me. With every step I took it felt like someone was watching me. My breath caught in my throat when I saw a dark figure standing underneath the dim lights of the ally.

"Well, isn\'t this a surprise?" I immediately began to take steps backwards. They tilted their head to the side. "Where are you going?" I could not see their face, but I could hear the smile in their voice.

"Who are you?" I asked, stopping.

They stepped out and walked out towards me. "Oh, Ms. Delgado. I\'m hurt. Do you not remember me?"

By the time they asked the question, they were right in front of me, their large hand reaching out to gently hold my chin. My eyes widened.

"Virgil!"
