Ch 4

A/N - A chapter from the perspective of Roman.

I was suprised when I saw the runt of the pack falter. I had sensed there was something wrong with her when they approached, but their brazen leader kept me at my distance. Nasty creatures, those wolves. It's almost a good thing the little fleabag had an attack, to cut the tension. I could tell she was different than the others, all of the males seemed like they might cause a problem if their leader didn't keep them on their leashes.

When we had been sent here, we were told they might react violently, and I'm almost sure they would have, if the little one hadn't become so ill. When she began thrashing I thought she might have been transforming or something, but I saw her smack her head hard against the locker and heard her give out the same noise a dog does when you step on it's tail. Whatever she was doing, it wasn't voluntarily. I watched her wither on the ground when a tear in her sleeve caught my eye. I looked back at her face and could have sworn she was looking right at me before she went limp.

"Her sleeve." I said casually to the blond. She snarled at me and I saw the animal inside of her shine through, but she checked her sleeve nonetheless. I smirked when they discovered the small tear, and I watched as the one smallest male seemed to realize something.

"Silver. She's got silver in her bloodstream."

I never have claimed to be the expert on these wolves, but I know a thing or two from legend, and legend has it that silver and wolves do not mix. The blond gave the fire crotch a knowing look and he nodded. In a flash there was a terrible ripping sound as an explosion of fur made me and the rest of my coven flinch. Where the red head had stood now was an abnormally large red wolf. It flashed a final look at us before turning and bounding down the hallway in gigantic strides.

I figured that our meeting with the pups had been postponed, but as I turned to leave the blond called me back.

"Stay where you are leech. We're not through with you."

I looked at the rest of my coven. Gabriel was the only one who didn't look ready to rip out some jugulars. In fact, he looked amused. I knew I needed to calm the others down, so I went to the girls and whispered in their ears that there would be no fighting today, but if they behaved I'd give them a special supper later on. Dahlia unclenched her fists, but Mercedes, in a rage as always, continued to glare at the other blond. I moved over to Julian and nudged him with my elbow.

"Come on. They're just a couple of pups." Though our coven was a family, I thought of Julian as my brother beyond everyone else. He glanced at me with the one eye that wasn't covered in hair, and slowly relaxed, nodding his head and taking deeper breaths.

"Helena, can you hear me?" the blond called.

So her name was Helena. I took in the features of the petite wolf. Her loose dark curls and pale freckled skin. Had it just been me, or had I seen a blush grace those cheekbones when we approached? It didn't matter. In a matter of moments the red wolf was back, a handsome man with olive complexion on his back. I chose not to question the way of the wolves as the mystery man had appeared in no time flat. The man didn't so much as glance at us as he slid off the beast's back, scooping the girl called Helena into his arms.

The man addressed the dark haired boy. "How much was it?"

"Not much, just a scrape." he said, his eyes clouded. I wondered vaguely who the other man was. I could sense he was a werewolf, but also that he was much older, and the blond one seemed to step down and aknowledge him as true leader when he was present.

Finally he noticed us. "You must go now." he said. I saw the blond start to protest, but he shot her a look that shut her up right away. I shrugged my shoulders and grinned at her.

"We'll meet again, don't worry." I assured her, turning with the rest of my coven to leave. After we had made it to the school's parking lot, I was able to find out what was on Gabriel's mind.

"I was just thinking what it would be like to keep one as a pet. The little one was cute." he said, grinning as Dahlia and Mercedes made gagging noises. I simply laughed as him and the girls piled in the back of the car while Julian and I took the front. "Please Roman, can we get one?"

I adjusted my mirrors and would have glared at him through them, had I had any reflection. "No." I said, pulling out of the lot. "They'd tear up the furniture."
