Sforza -- Character Creation -- The Mind Amok

Sforza – Character Creation – the mind amok

Greetings and Salutations! Yeah! I got some questions. So now I have to think. (hmmmm, be careful of what you wish for.)

Thanks for the note Sforza. I thought I was one of the only ones that gets flashbacks to what I read and giggle in public. That is why I took to wearing my mp3 player buds. Half the time my batteries are dead, but I’m not frightening the locals any more. Bwah ha ha ha.

I find it amazing that so many different readers are identifying with/liking different characters. Some absolutely hate Marcus. Some are in his fan club. Hades was voted off the island, but then many readers wanted a last minute reprieve. It’s fascinating [Adjusts glasses and temples fingertips together. Hmmmm] Claudius and Sex seem to be a popular one. Which is amazing because these two were minor inconsequential characters when I started writing. Now they’re romeo and romeo on a motorcycle. Didn’t see that one coming.

Q: WHAT ARE THE INSPIRATIONS FOR THE CREATION OF YOUR CHARACTERS?

Hmmm. Ahhh, er…everything, I guess. Let’s track Hades shall we? He was not even a footnote or careless whisper in Cake. Why? I had no clue I was going to write Cinnamon. When I realized I needed an ass to be the head of Shadoe Inc, I decided I wanted someone creepy but good looking. It would have been cliché to write, big hulking brute with black hair and piercing topaz eyes. So an eternal teenager with that cracked voice and a slave to hormonal urges seemed to fit the bill. At the time, I didn’t have a blonde so there he was. I didn’t want him to have as blue an eye as Claudius so I watered it down. And it worked out that as an eternal teenager, he wouldn’t have a problem grabbing sex from anyone he wanted, whether they wanted it or not. Self-centered brat.

Xavier/Sex/Azrael – a vivid dream. All I saw was lots of red hair. Not overly tall, good looking but not aware of it. How to do that, make him obese? Then force him skinny. With no mirrors, he has no clue of what he looks like now Armor is done with him…well in the first year. He started out with hazel eyes, but as the story progressed and I discovered that Armanita was his grandma, I had to go back and change his eyes to jade green.

Claudius – Antonio Bandaris as Armand in Interview with the vampire. Well the long black hair. Pet, pet, pet. The rest of him is built like a swimmer. Nudge nudge, wink, wink, say no more.

Haley – Michael J. Fox. – just so cute.

Marcus/Armor—number one, I’ve been flip flopping between American and Canadian spelling with his name Armor/Armour. I have made a decision – American. Mainly because if I just glance at it it looks like amour. Based on the vivid dream again. 6ft 4, 200+ pounds, slouches or not depending on who’s at bat. Back in Cake, you might have read one of my little rants when suddenly Marcus split into two. Another…wtf moment for me. I wasn’t expecting that. After it did, and I accepted it…humph…when I reviewed previous chapters I noticed “Marcus” who was really Armor, humming while brushing X’s hair. Armor doesn’t hum. That subconscious is a strange and mystical thing.

Q. DO YOU USE ANYTHING OR ANYONE AS A MOLD TO SHAPE YOUR CHARACTERS?

For the most part, I people watch. [I used to call it lurking, but that is really bad now] I sit in a mall with my $4.50 mocha latte scald my tongue off coffee and watch people. Look at the hairstyles. Watch the 80’s come back into fashion, (oh yeah) Kind of pick up what is passing as trendy cool. You can also watch how people interact. You can learn a lot that way.

I must plot in my sleep because I get up, usually 5:30-6:00 am and write until 7:45 then run around and get ready for work. I just sit at my computer and the stuff just flows out of me. Well that’s how it’s working for this series. It took me 10 frigging years to get THE BLACK TOWER completed.

Hope this answered something for you. If it didn’t write me again. CYA
