"This is speaking"
Where we left off...
Slowly we made our way to the house. It was a long walk uphill, I demanded before that Lord Makoto move into another home, but he refused. He decided to move into the home with me, he was afraid that he was going to be a burden to me. He’s a stubborn old man, just as my father was. No matter how hard you fought with him, he would never give in.
I sighed heavily when they walked into the house as Lady Kura ushered him to slow down and take it easy. I turned back to the town, looking out into the distance. The three men stood there, staring back at me with shielded eyes. I gripped the door tighter and then entered my home, my eyes still fixed on them.

The three men stood there, staring back at me with shielded eyes. I gripped the door tighter and then entered my home, my eyes still fixed on them.
“Makoto, what’s going on?” I heard Lady Kura question. I walked into the living area after I closed the large cherry door. I noticed that Lady Kura was trying her best to wait as she patiently looked for an explanation of what just happened. He looked at me and then took a seat in the nearest chair. He motioned for us to have a seat so he could elucidate.
“As you understand, our town is going to be under attack if we do not take immediate action. I vowed to protect that which was under my rule, therefore what I must do to protect us will bring salvation to our people, but hinder us.” He began quickly. He frowned at having to do this, but he knew he must. “I have promised Lord Yukio a woman for our protection.” Kura gave a nod and I simply stood there, half expecting him to say his apologies to Lady Kura now.
“Continue please…” She requested. He was disappointed with himself. This she could tell by his unwillingness to inform her. As if something went off in her head, Lady Kura’s look of worry turned into one of fear. “Oh, please. Tell me you didn’t…” She pleaded with a hand covering her opened mouth. Her eyes began to water as she thought of the possibilities of who he would send to Lord Yukio. Lord Makoto sighed heavily and nodded. Lady Kura had a hard time asking this next question, but she needed to know the answer. She allowed a few tears to trickle down her bony cheeks before asking the tensing question. “Who,” She managed to ask quite breathlessly. Reluctantly he answered.
“…Amaya…” He stated solemnly. His disappointed stare shifted to me. I looked back at him, a little bowled over.

It had been almost two years since I met Lord Yukio in person. It was quite obvious that I stood out. There was a small gathering hosted by Lord Yukio’s father before he became deathly ill. His son needed to marry before he passed on and he wanted to be there for the wedding so he watched as the future ruler mingled with women from different cities.
It was formal, and many beautiful women attended. Some were so young that it was sickening and the same thing could be said of the older women. Each had been the daughter of some city’s ruler. I only came in Mai’s stead because she was too young. I found that I had done her a favor in the fact that this was such a boring and uneventful thing that I nearly wandered off and slept somewhere. The women were very vicious, speaking with venom in their tones to one another. I, on the other hand, stood off to the corner with a friend that posed as my servant. Her name was Kaida.
Kaida was my age, but taller than me by a few inches. She was very beautiful too. Her short orange hair was very shiny and soft, so soft that it even looked it. Her figure was slim and fit. Her face was small, as were her hands, and she always had a smile on. But, as they say with beauty comes some flaws. Kaida was born with no sight. She used her other senses and conquered what people said she could not do. She was strong willed and outgoing. I believe I was even her only true friend.
As Kaida and I sat in the farthest corner from the throne I observed the scene in front of us. There were many women standing about, chatting about this or that. It was quite disgusting, watching so many women fawn over a single man. They were all grouped together surrounding him. There was dull music playing in the background by a bored group of musicians. There was a buzz all throughout the room and it was so packed that some of the women were shown outside to stand as they awaited their turn with the “prince.”
I sighed heavily and grabbed a glass of some fizzy drink that once sat upon a tray that was being carried by a servant of the house. I sipped it, and then made a face that suggested it was horrible. The glass was soon returned to another floating server nearly as full as it had been when I took it from its previous perch.
I noticed then that the women were gathering from outside and back into the dwelling. The room was soon full with gowns and perfume that I almost gagged. Uninterested and bored, I slipped out of the room unknowingly and found myself in a hall, Kaida trailing behind me slowly. I looked around and noticed the very expensive taste that the Lord had. I raised an eyebrow and turned back to the door as I heard an announcement.
“Because of the heat and the amount of attendants, I suggest we move this party of ours outside. Please, if you’ll make your way out of the sliding glass doors you will be treated there.” His strong voice subsided and then more chattering replaced its presence.
I turned to Kaida who was looking in the total opposite direction as I was going. “Kaida,” I said reluctantly. She turned to me and smiled.
“Yes, My Lady,” She replied politely. She played the part well, making me wonder why she hadn’t decided to work for some Lord as his servant. Maybe her morals were higher that what I had expected. She took a few steps toward me and then stopped some feet short.
“I am not enjoying myself, would you please attend the party and allow me to create some mischief?” I questioned honestly. She smiled brighter, this time all of her white teeth showed.
“My Lady, I must protest.” She began. “This is no time, nor place, to be wandering.” She said happily. I smiled at this and then nodded.
“Well, at least allow me to be on my own. If I get into trouble I don’t want you to get caught up in it.” I said as I turned to walk away. Just then I heard the door open and I assumed that Kaida was indeed going back to the bustle of people who had been ushered outside. I was wrong in my deduction when I heard her gasp slightly. I turned around, seeing a very handsome man standing beside her, a hand on her shoulder. At that moment, I became defensive instinctively.
“I would appreciate you not handling Kaida that way.” I said with narrow eyes. He raised a dark brow and his blue eyes twinkled slightly. I walked back to them and pulled Kaida behind me swiftly, but gently.
“My Lady,” He began as he bowed slightly. I felt a flush creep its way across my face. I had never been bowed to by anyone and it was a bit exhilarating. He stood straight once again and then held out his hand for mine. I looked at it as if it were alien to me and then was startled when he took my hand that was once by my side and placed it to his gentle lips. “May I have your name?” He questioned politely. I nodded, a bit astonished.
After a little while of staring into his starry eyes I answered. “I am Lady Amaya of the Aretha Mountains.” I stated softly. He smiled.
“Well, Lady Amaya of the Aretha Mountains, how do you do?” He questioned slyly. “I noticed that you were all alone out here and had decided to join you. You don’t mind do you?”
I shook my head ‘no’ and then looked back at Kaida who was no longer there. It had felt like an eternity before I realized that we were alone. I swallowed the residing lump in my throat and then decided to not seem like I couldn’t handle myself.
“And may I ask your name?” I questioned a little more confidently. He smiled more and then laughed slightly. I looked down as I noticed his hand still holding onto mine tenderly.
And that was how I met Lord Yukio. I was taken away into some place that only we could see, some place that consisted of only us. It was breathtaking and I could feel the anxious feelings swelling up inside my stomach.
