Chapter Four: Picnic in the Park

After breakfast Vashon quickly did the dishes and packed a lunch in a basket. Taking that out he placed it in the carriage on his bike, along with a blanket. Scott stayed seated at the kitchen while Vashon went around with his business.

“Ok, let’s go.” Vashon said simply to Scott who just looked at him with blank eyes.

“So what are we going to do?” Scott asked. Hoping to get an answer from Vashon about their whereabouts.

Vashon looked at Scott and raised an eyebrow. “What makes you think I’m going to tell you? I did say it was a surprise. Although you should be able to figure out what my plans are for lunch. Now, no arguing let’s go.” Without waiting for Scott Vashon grabbed his hand and headed out the front door. Locking it behind him.

Scott followed him to the garage. “Let me start ‘er up and then we can head out.” Vashon swung his leg over the bike and sat on it comfortably. He placed the key in the ignition and turned it. The bike started right up and purred quietly.

“What kind of bike is it?” Scott asked. “Well, it’s a 2000 BMW R1100. I know, it’s not a Harley or anything but I wanted that wasn’t going to cost me an arm and a leg to fix. That and I’ve been told they don’t break down that often. So I picked this baby up.” Vashon said the last sentence with a grin.

Scott stood there with his arms crossed, listening to Vashon’s story. Just looking at him on the bike stirred those same images of him with his shirt off, sitting on top of the bike. A smile came across Scott’s face without him even realizing it.

Vashon looked up in enough time to notice the smile on Scott’s face. “What’s going through your mind now? Excited about the ride or something else?” Vashon asked casually a smile forming his lips.

“Huh?” Scott asked in confusion. “I didn’t hear you.” Vashon laughed loudly. “Come on man; get your head out of the clouds! Now hop on and let’s go.” Scott blushed slightly and got on the back.

“If you get freaked out don’t be afraid to wrap your arms around me.” Vashon said with a smirk. Without waiting for a reply from Scott he eased on the throttle and drove smoothly out of the driveway.

Going through the neighborhood Vashon obeyed the speed limit. Soon he turned onto the interstate and gassed it, easily reaching 75 after a couple of minutes. Scott had reluctantly wrapped his arms around Vashon’s waist once on the interstate. Vashon smiled the entire way.

Vashon was heading south towards Colorado Springs. He knew of a town up in the mountains 14 miles west of there he had a feeling Scott would like. Once in Castlerock he pulled over at a gas station to stretch his legs. Slowing to a stop he turned the bike off and placed the foot rest down.

Scott let go finally and leaned back. “Why’d you gun it like that? I thought I was going to fall off!” Scott said playfully slapping his shoulder. “Vashon looked over his shoulder and gave a sly look. “Cause I wanted you to grab on.”

Scott sat there speechless, his face slowly turning red once again. He had nothing to come back at him after that comment. “Now get off so I can stretch my legs.” Scott hurriedly got off the bike and mustered “Sorry.” Then stretched himself.

Vashon watched as Scott turned red and looked at him with a dumbfounded look. He had a feeling that Scott might be curious. ‘So today is turning out to be a good one.’ Vashon thought to himself as he headed into the convenient store. He grabbed a couple of waters from the coolers in the back and paid for them at the counter.

Heading back to his bike he noticed Scott staring hard at a vehicle at the pump. “Hey, got you some water. Whatcha looking at?” He nudged Scott with the water.

Pointing Scott mustered, “Cynthia….” Scott took in a deep breath and finished, “And her new man.”

Vashon glanced over and noticed who he was pointing at. “Drink your water then let’s leave. Or save it and we can drink it when we arrive at our destination.” Scott nodded but didn’t take his eyes away. Vashon sighed loudly and placed the waters in with lunch. Then he got on the bike and revved it to life. Scott hearing this turned and got on behind Vashon.

Vashon slowly drove by Cynthia and realized she was looking at him. Smiling he winked at her. Cynthia continued to look though Scott was hiding his face in Vashon’s back. Cynthia knew it was him. Confused she picked up her cell and dialed Scott’s cell. It went straight to the answering machine. She waited then left a message. “Hey, I just saw you with another man. What’s going on?” Then she flipped her phone shut and looked behind her as she watched the two get back on the interstate.

Once on the interstate Scott unburied his face out of Vashon’s back. “Do you think she saw me?” Scott asked his mouth close to Vashon’s ear so he could hear. Vashon shrugged and hollered back, “Who cares? Isn’t she with someone new? Now forget about that.”

Scott continued to hold Vashon’s waist as they headed south. After about an hour they hit the Colorado Springs and slowed down. Vashon got to the Cimarron HWY 24 exit and got off the interstate and headed west from there. At a stop light Scott asked. “Where we headed?”

“Well, there’s a little town about 14 miles from here that I figured we could stop and eat our lunch at. I think you may like this place.” Vashon answered simply. Before Scott could reply the light turned green and Vashon gassed it.

About 15 minutes later they reached a rather small town. Driving past a McDonald’s Scott noticed a sign that read ‘Woodland Park, the City Above the Clouds’. Vashon drove about a mile into town then turned right off the HWY. Up on the left Vashon pulled in to a park that had a fountain in the middle. Parking the bike Vashon turned it off and waited for Scott to get off before he got off himself.

“Wow, the sky is so blue out here!” Scott said with amusement looking up at the sky. “It’s so much clearer up here then it is there in Denver.” Looking back at Vashon he had a big grin on his face. Looking around Scott seemed to be glowing. “It’s beautiful up here.” Scott said simply.

“I knew you’d like it,” Vashon said. He grabbed the basket out of his pack and the waters. “Let’s head to those picnic tables over there.” Vashon pointed, and Scott nodded. The two of them headed down. Scott picked a table that was in the shade from a tree nearby. Vashon sat lunch out on the table and they ate in silence, watching kids play on the playground above them and in the pond below them.

After lunch Scott turned to Vashon. “You’re right Vashon. I do like it up here.” Vashon laughed and shook his head. Scott was too easy to read.

“Come, let’s walk around.” Vashon stated getting up from the table. Scott followed in suit as they walked side by side down towards the pond. They walked around the pond and continued on down back towards the highway. Taking a right they headed up to the theatre that was there in town. Looking at the ’Now Showing’ signs Vashon said, “Come, let’s go in and watch a movie. Then we can head back to my place.”

“Ok,” Scott said. “What shall we see?” He asked as they walked into the small theatre.

Vashon bought the tickets for a kid movie that was showing. Going into the room on the left they picked a couple of seats in the back. No one was sitting back there. The lights went out and the picture began playing. Vashon placed his hand on Scott’s knee, who in turn placed it in his hand. For the entire movie they sat there, holding hands.

A/N: Thanks for the reviews you guys! I edited Chapter 3 so it's not up there twice anymore. Thanks for that headsup! I must've hit the button twice or something when I did my copy paste bit. I hate it when that happens. Anyways, I've started Chapter 4 and hopefully I'll have that done here soon.
