Chapter Four
This was it, Friday, D-Day as far as Caden was concerned. He would talk to Lori this morning about her job. It was about 8:30 and she should be coming up from breakfast momentarily. Ally and Cleo had left already and Caden sat in his home office staring at the computer. He had gone over all the different ways, nice ways, to tell Lori she was being fired from her receptionist job at Seims Mortgage. None of them seemed any better than the others. Caden had gotten her the job when she first came to live at Cinnamon Lane almost six months ago. Ron Seims was a good friend of Caden’s and Seims Mortgage did a lot of business with Caden’s Real Estate firm. But even though they were friends Ron had a business to run and Lori was either not showing up, coming in late or not doing adequate work. Ron had been lenient with Lori probably more than he would have been with his other employees but now her absences were affecting those other employees. It was time to let her go.
Lori had always been looking for love, a meaningful relationship and trying to hard it seemed to find a husband, so she frequently went to the local bars in the evenings. Looking for love in all the wrong places Caden used to tell her. Occasionally she didn’t come home at night and this is what was getting her into trouble at work. Caden had developed a good relationship with Lori, a lot of late night talks about life, dreams, aspirations and love. Their sex was great too in the beginning but Lori had wanted more and Caden couldn’t give her that. They had agreed that they shouldn’t be intimately involved, but instead focus the attention on completing Lori’s goals. But what she was getting herself involved with from the local riff raff at the bars was not good for her. Promises and immediate attention for a night was all she ever got. She had really come a long way since her first day at Cinnamon Lane. She accomplished all of her short term goals, getting her GED, getting a good job, saving $3000 in six months, which she hoped to put down on a condo, renewing her broken relationship with her sister, which was still in the process, and fixing her car to working order. Now with the loss of her job and her 181 day stay at Cinnamon Lane up in only 12 days, Caden feared she would crumble. She had relied on this job to carry her to the next step. He feared she would be devastated. Caden and Ron had agreed earlier that week that it would be better to come from Caden. Caden even pondered with letting her stay an additional month until she found a new job. That created problems of its own, Caden would be breaking his own rules, which would come back to haunt him eventually. But he had decided that he wouldn’t ask her to leave until she was settled in a new job. He had already talked to a few friends about job opportunities.
“Caden,” Lori called from downstairs waking him up from his daze, “are you in your office?”
“Yes I am, come up here will you, I want to talk to you.”
Lori arrived at the doorway to Caden’s office and Caden turned to greet her and his jaw dropped. She was dressed in a white and pink striped blouse, black short skirt, darker nylons and black high heeled boots. Her short cropped blond hair, pink lips and tiny cheek freckles highlighted her other soft facial features. Her bright pink bra glowed through her shirt like a beacon and the stripes negotiated around her large breasts almost like suspenders. She was stunning! At 33 years old she could still be a model for Cosmopolitan. Caden hesitated to say anything, his mouth just hung open. She stood in the doorway with a big bright smile.
“You like my outfit?” obvious to her of course by the way Caden stared at her but she wanted to hear him say it none the less.
“You are absolutely stunning,” Caden swallowed, “are you going to meet someone special.”
“No, well yes, sort of. I have something to tell you.” She came in and sat down in the chair next to Caden, crossing her legs in front of him, leaving a lump in his throat. Her long legs in that short skirt aroused him. Everything about her aroused him. She reached out for his hand and looked him in the eyes.
“I’m leaving Cinnamon Lane, today, as a matter of fact. A limo is picking me up at eleven o’clock. I know about my job, I’ve known for a week now, Casey told me last Monday,” Lori said reveling her insider. “ And I know you know and I also know its been hard on you to tell me this week. You are such a gentleman. And I love you forever for being that way, for all you’ve done for me the last six months and for the friendship we will always have.”
“Where are you going?” Caden managed to spit out during her pause, shaking his head in disbelief.
“I’m going to visit my sister in Florida, in Fort Meyers first and then I’m meeting Andrew in Miami.”
“Andrew? Who the hell is Andrew?”
“I met him two months ago at the office. He was there to close a big deal for one of his clients and the deal got stalled because of financing, so he was in the office for a week trying to keep it together. We went to lunch several times, then to dinner a couple of nights and then he flew home. He continued to call and email me after that and showed up here two weeks ago to surprise me for my birthday. We’ve really hit it off. I’m not gonna jump the gun, but I really like him and he feels the same about me. He’s got a job for me with his firm and I start Monday.” The excitement in her voice was obvious.
“You won’t mind if I check him out with Ron will you,” Caden’s protective side coming out now. “What is this job? And where are you going to live?”
“Calm down Caden, I’m a big girl. I can do this. I’m sorry for not telling you about Andrew, but there’s been so many Andrew types lately in my life and I’ve cried to you about them all , but this one felt different, I didn’t want to jinx it. I owe you so much and I don’t know how I can ever show you my gratitude. You gave me a chance when no one else would. But I’m so happy right now. I feel as if my life has been turned around. There is a chance here to be my own person and I want the challenge. So, at first I will be a receptionist, just for a while, so I can start getting some paychecks, but Andrew and I have talked about me going to school to get my real estate license. Wouldn’t that be great! Maybe you and I can do some deals together,“ Lori chuckled, “and Andrew has a townhouse he will let me rent until I can get a place of my own.”
Caden let a few seconds go by before moving, he hadn’t seen her quite this happy since the day he let her move into Cinnamon Lane. He had no holds on the girls, they were free to come and go when they wanted. He felt attached to them though, probably more than he should, and with Lori maybe more than the rest, but he protected them, cared for them, listened to them and now the third woman he had let live at Cinnamon Lane and had helped get ahead was leaving. He was happy for her though, happy to have played a part in that happiness. Lori stood up and Caden stood with her, they embraced for awhile, Lori wiping away a few tears, sniffling.
She held Caden tight.
“Caden,” Lori said, resting her head on his broad shoulders, sniffling through her tears, “thank you for not taking advantage of me when we went through some of our intimate issues, for always believing in me even when I didn’t believe in myself and for not playing mind games with me. Thank you for always being there when I needed you. I will always love you.”
“You are so welcome Lori. I will look forward to hearing from you and how well you’re doing. You can do this, I know you will succeed. And I’ll miss you. You better stay in touch and fill me in on how you‘re doing.”
“Yah, you won’t be able to get rid of me that easy. I‘ve left some phone numbers down in the kitchen for you as well. Please call me whenever you want.”
Lori lifted her head off Caden shoulder, her eyes streaming with tears, first looking in his eyes and then reaching up with her hands and touching Caden face she kissed him tenderly. Their embrace and kisses sent small ripples through their bodies. Caden’s dick began to grow and Lori could feel it press up against her. Her own juices stirred. She knew Caden would not take advantage of her, so it was up to her if this moment would continue or stop. She wanted to pull away, that was the right thing to do, for herself, for Caden, for Andrew, but she now realized just how much she loved Caden and would miss him. She loved his arms around her, she remembered his muscular naked body pressed against hers, his dick, larger than most men she had been with, more than a couple of times they had shared a bed. She wanted him if for no other reason then to say goodbye. She ached for him, yet fought all the urges to let herself go. She could feel his erection was complete, rock hard pressing against her groin. She had to let go of him now or rip his clothes from his body. She broke the kiss, hugged him tightly and backed away. Caden fought to smile without showing his anguish. His pants protruded out from his body where his erection begged to be let out. He could feel his dick pulsing and was sure it showed but he didn’t want to look down.
“Can I help you pack, carry your bags down… Caden managed to squeak out before Lori spoke over his words, “I’ve got everything, thanks.” .
“help you with something,” Caden’s voice trailed off.
Lori hesitated, “I’m not leaving for another two hours, but no, thanks, its all done.
The silence between them was deafening and Lori twisted away slightly, then reached out holding onto his arms.
She paused awkwardly, turning to look directly into his eyes, “Caden….make love to me one last time. Take me in your arms and hold me, let me feel….
Caden swept her up into his arms.
“your body against mine.”
