Day Breaks
Chapter Four: Coffee Cups and Long Weekends
******************************
Jason’s dreams were the scourge of his life. No matter how much he shot himself up with narcotics, and no matter how much alcohol he drank, the dreams wouldn’t leave him in peace, and they wouldn’t let him forget the bound up memories that plagued his existence. It was painfully obvious that the man had once been beautiful in his own right with pale blue eyes and ebony hair, but now, he was thin, emaciated, and the once shining ebony locks hung dingy against his pale skin, and the blue eyes that had once sparkled with fire were dull and empty like a shuttered, empty room.
This particular night, he huddled in the corner of his alley home, shivering from the lack of narcotics in his system, his eyes shut tightly to the light of the moon. He prayed that either sleep or death would overtake him and remove him from the painful existence of being alive while he suffered through the withdrawals. He tried to stand, but his body wasn’t strong enough, and he found himself forcefully huddled in the corner in the shadows again, waiting for some relief from his pain.
He closed his eyes and willed his body to relax and try to sleep, and before he slipped away, he wondered to himself when he’d be normal again. Parker Carlton had destroyed his life on purpose by strapping him down, and shooting the drugs into his system, and when he had been thoroughly tortured, beaten, and bruised, he had been thrown out on the streets with nothing but a coat and an addiction to feed his body. Jason couldn’t even remember why Parker had turned on him, but someone knew. Someone had to know. Whenever he looked into Jenny’s eyes, however, he became more and more convinced that the beauty knew nothing of the deep animosity her father had for those who opposed him, and Jason wished fervently that she would never cross the path of her father.
He slipped into sleep, and his body’s shivering soon stopped, and all that was left was a once beautiful man, huddled in the corner of the alley. He mumbled with tortured dreams, and in his heart, he cried out for the one that touched him and begged him to care. The one that he served and loved plagued his dreams with wild, reckless anger, and for all of his shortcomings, Jason still loved the man that he saw crying out for release.
In his dream, Jason found himself on a bed, but when he looked around, the only beauty was the scarlet silk comforter that surrounded him on the lush, feather mattress, and when he tried to move his arms, they were bound and stretched to the head of the comfortable bed, nearly painfully. He looked around as if waiting for someone, and when the creature entered that he sought, his breath caught. In all of his dreams, this was the only face that he saw and could remember because of the sheer beauty.
Tall, dark, and muscle bound, the man entered the room, but in Jason’s eyes, the creature was not a man at all. A black silk hoari covered his body, but from his shoulders, magnificent, raven black wings sprouted, and they rested quietly behind him as he looked on Jason. His face was the most striking thing Jason could remember about him, and he could only stare at the surreal beauty the dark angel exuded. Dark eyes, charcoal black like a starless sky sparkled in malice, and the face, masculine beyond understanding, yet delicate and finely featured complimented his entire appearance and gave him a forbidding air that he was seemingly proud of.
He leaned down on the bed, his arms braced on either side of Jason’s head, his long black hair making a curtain around them, giving Jason no where to look but the depthless black eyes that bored into his pale blue orbs. When the man spoke, Jason felt his whole being suddenly relax and fill with happiness, as if though he was created for this purpose to please this being who so majestically leaned over him. “Pillan, my love, why do you flinch every time I touch you? Don’t you love me anymore?” The voice was deep and smooth like silk, but at the same time, a deep hatred seethed from the words, making Jason’s blue eyes shut in fear.
“P-please, Lucifer, don’t hurt me anymore. I’ll do anything your heart desires.” Jason begged with his still tightly shut. War calloused hands smoothed up the silken expanse of his chest, tracing each crease of muscle, and stopping to trace the darkened skin of his nipples, making the young man gasp in shock and pleasure. The touch was like fire along his skin, making his body heat up pleasantly, causing liquid desire to pool in the depths of his belly.
“I created you for this.” Lucifer whispered. “I created you for me because no one else would love me.” Jason opened his eyes and looked on the dark man with a loving gaze. There was something about this dark angel that took his breath away, and he fell easily into the trap of loving him yet again in his dreams. He stopped straining against his bonds, and when Lucifer’s silk clad body pressed warmly into his, he whimpered softly, soft words escaping his lips in a language he’d never heard and didn’t understand.
In the dream, he watched as Lucifer’s beautiful, shining black wings spread out, and then rested on the bed on either side of them, covering them both from the outside world, locking him in a world of love, betrayal, and pain. Where many sought love as a savior, in this place, it only meant the lack of warmth, and the power of the pain without it was incapacitating. The origin of love was not in this place, and it made Jason’s heart break for Lucifer even as he relaxed quietly against his body.
***************************
Jenny stumbled up the stairs to her apartment, and as she fumbled for the keys to let herself inside, the tears started to stream down her face. Now, that the ordeal was over, all that was left in her body was a paralyzing fear, and try as hard as she could, it wouldn’t abate. She dropped her keys, and with a sudden anguished cry, she finally gave up trying to get into her apartment, and she slid down the door, huddled against it in a mass of dark leather and white skirts. In her mind, she could feel the rough, cracked hands of the three thugs, and then, she could hear the sickening crack of their bodies as an unseen assailant divested them quickly and efficiently of their lives.
She cried so hard that she didn’t even realize that a soft voice was trying to break through her stupor, and she looked up into crystal blue eyes. Worry etched the ivory freckled face, and Jenny threw herself into the waiting arms of her friend. Soft, incoherent words spilled from her rose petal lips into the air of the hallway, whispering and sobbing of horrors she had never experienced before and never knew of.
Tauri looked up at Thomas and sighed gently as she wrapped her arms around Jenny, gently rubbing her back and whispering soothing words in her ear. “It’s ok, honey. I saw you drive by the club, and I just wanted to check on you. Shhh…” She continued to rock Jenny even as Thomas picked up the keys and chose the right one to open the door. He gently eased the door open, looking down on the two women, and he gently eased down, helping the sobbing Jenny to her feet, offering a hand to Tauri as well.
They entered a light colored penthouse, decorated in pastels and white, attesting to the gentle and bright personality of the inhabitant. He seated Jenny on a plush white couch, and he immediately entered her kitchen, looking for a glass and some water for the nearly hysterical blonde.
When he came back, the scene that met his eyes would have been arousing if he hadn’t known that Tauri respected Jenny so much. Jenny was wrapped up in Tauri’s arms on the couch, the redhead’s face buried in the golden silk that fell around them, whispering soft words of encouragement as Jenny’s sobs began to subside. He sat the glass of water down, and Jenny managed a weak ‘thank you’ to Thomas and proceeded to down the contents of the glass. Tauri touched her hair gently.
“Ok, so what happened, and where the hell did you get this ratty old leather coat?” She fingered the soft, worn leather, and Jenny actually smiled slightly through her tears. Gingerly, she made it to her feet and shrugged it off, careful not to show her nearly exposed chest to Thomas. Tauri gasped in horror at the deep gashes from the asphalt on Jenny’s arms. “Jesus Christ, Jennifer.” She whispered. She fingered the cuts, and then she stared up at her with wide blue eyes. “What the hell happened?”
Jenny looked over her shoulder and Thomas on the easy chair and then faced Tauri. “I was doing my delivery as usual, and three guys attacked me.” Her eyes watered. “I thought I was going to die, Tauri.” She paused and her eyes suddenly went wistful and faraway. “There was this guy though… I was so scared, and he saved me. At first, I thought he was going to kill me, but he just took my locket and gave me his coat to cover me.”
“Why did you think he was going to kill you, Jen?” Thomas asked lightly. She flickered her eyes over her shoulder at him and sighed.
“Well, he pointed a gun at me. Maybe he thought I was dangerous or something…He knew my name, and he asked me who I was, but when I looked up at him, he just seemed sad. I thanked him for saving my life, and he lowered it and gave me his jack.” She frowned. “He took my locket.”
Tauri’s eyes widened, and she sat forward on the couch, her long red hair spilling over her shoulder. Thomas sat forward too, and very gently, he wrapped long fingers around Jenny’s wrist and tugged her to face him. He smiled reassuringly at her and released her. “Jen, what did this guy look like?”
Jenny paused. “Well, he was tall. Maybe a little shorter than you, Tom, and he had brown hair, and his eyes were weird. They almost looked gold, but I think they were brown…”
Tauri suddenly muttered an expletive and sat forward. “Did he say his name?” Jenny looked between them, her eyes confused and innocent.
“No, he didn’t say much to me. He just… well….He kissed me.” Jenny blushed. “It was like he was telling me that he was sorry or something. I wasn’t mad at him though. He saved my life.”
Tauri gazed at Thomas for a moment and then back up at Jenny. “Can you remember anything he said?”
“Well….” Jenny paused. “He did say something that didn’t make much sense.”
“What’s that?” Thomas asked gently.
“He said ‘eye for an eye.’ I have no idea what that means. I can only assume he’s referring to revenge… but why?” Jenny mused.
“Oh my dear God.” Tauri whispered. “Eye for an eye. Daughter for a daughter, Thomas. That’s what he meant.”
Thomas nodded and leaned back in his chair, his brilliant hazel eyes darkening in mild rage. Jenny was still looking between the two of them, and then she looked down at her state of dress, and she crinkled her nose in distaste.
“Ok, guys.” She straightened her back and stepped past Tauri into her room, leaving the two in the living room, calling out nervously as she washed her arms and changed her clothes. “So there’s something you’re not telling me. What is it that I need to know or not know?”
Tauri and Thomas looked at each other nervously, and then Tauri cleared her throat. “Can’t I just tell you it’s not a big deal?” She asked cheekily, hoping to deter Jenny from wanting more information about the topic of conversation.
The voice from the other room carried through the house. “No, you may not.” The tone was defiant and sweet, just as Jenny always was when she was nervous or angry. Tauri sighed in frustration and flopped back on the couch. The woman could be just as stubborn as the redhead when she really wanted to be, and when she used that tone of voice, there was no way to get around telling her at least part of the truth.
“This guy’s pissed at your dad, and so he thought that if he took you out that it would be the ultimate revenge.” She said dryly without humor. Jenny’s head poked out of her door at the explanation, and her eyes widened.
“Well, if he’s so bad, why didn’t he go through with it?” Thomas grunted and leaned back in his chair.
“That’s what I want to know.” Tauri answered.
*****************************
Darien Jarrod was sitting at his desk at Carlton Corp, sifting through all of the business deals he was lining up for Jenny, and he was getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of intelligence and knowledge from his subordinates. He raked a hand through his light brown hair and leaned back in his chair, closing his chocolate eyes and sighing. Darien was fairly jaded, and it added to his rough personality and already severe lack of courtesy, but Jenny seemed to ignore the rough edges in exchange for his brilliance when it came to sniffing out potential business for the corporation.
He possessed a certain masculine grace about him that commanded a room, made people respect him, and on occasion, even made people fear him from time to time. His eyes shone like melted chocolate, and he found it to be amusing when people would be taken off guard by his harsh personality in contrast to his soft eyes. His features otherwise were sharp, angled, and incredibly handsome, and Jenny knew that he used that on several occasions when their clients were female. Regardless of how he treated other women, however, he always spoke to Jenny with only respect and affection.
He was a quiet enough man, but he didn’t have a lack of gusto when it came to expressing his candid opinion on certain issues. Jenny relied on his honesty to keep her grounded during large deals, and even though he didn’t have the business finesse that Tauri possessed, he had, instead, a brilliant mind that Jenny had yet to see rivaled in the business world. As her deal coordinator, he had done an excellent job, and she was glad that she had found him.
For Darien, the job was usual, the pay was usual, and the duties were the same old duties that he’d done at previous jobs. The only perk of the job was Jenny’s company and her seemingly endless supply of gentle understanding and patience. He threw the papers onto his desk that he was currently holding and stood up, stretching, and then, his door opened and a very frustrated Jenny entered the office, her emerald eyes blazing. Darien quirked an eyebrow at her in amusement, and she growled at him.
“Forrester is a bastard.” She declared. “He’s selling the building to another company for twice what we were going to pay for it.” Darien nodded his head and sat down in his chair again right as Jenny perched herself on his desk across from him, much to his annoyance. He reached forward and pulled a stack of papers out from underneath her, making her nearly fall off the desk into the forbidding leather seat across from him.
“Yeah, I know. I sent you a memo, an email, and I also told Peg to leave you a message to call me.” He leaned back and had the audacity to look smug. “Not that you pay attention to me anyway, Jenny.”
“Darien, I haven’t even been to my office yet. I got a call at home from the jerk telling me what he was doing. What an….” Darien cut her off before she finished her sentence.
“Don’t worry, once the company receives our paperwork on the building, they’ll turn their noses up at it. Don’t get so uptight, Jenny. I’ve got your ass covered.”
“Yeah, you wish.” She smirked at him. He smiled easily back at her, the angles of his sharp features softening into a gentle expression of affection. Jenny stood from his desk and rolled her eyes. “I’m going back to my prison. Holler if you hear anything.”
“Will do, Boss.” He answered easily. She leaned across the desk and gave the man a quick kiss on the cheek before bouncing out of his office, leaving him wiping off his cheek in disgust and rolling his eyes at the childish affection of his boss. His phone rang and he picked it up, knowing exactly who was calling.
“Hey, Cock Sucker.” The voice of his brother filled the line. Darien chuckled and leaned back in his chair.
“Hi, Asswipe.” He answered affectionately. “I take it you figured out that the coffee pot took a shit on us.”
“Yeah, I figured it out the hard way.” The annoyed voice replied. “You could have left a note or something.”
“But why leave a note when it’s so much fun to leave you to figure it out.” Darien grinned into the phone.
“Because I’m going to die without my coffee.” His brother whined. “Have Jenny bring me some coffee from the shop or something. Charisma makes the best coffee anywhere. I swear she’s a coffee goddess.”
Darien rolled his eyes. “Cricket, you just want to see Jenny to get into her skirt.”
“I’m hurt.” Cricket answered. “I won’t touch her…much.”
“I’ll send Kevin over there with a new coffee pot, and you can make your own coffee.” Darien snorted. He listened to the phone as Cricket made a groan akin to a whine.
“Aw, man.” He griped.
Darien chuckled. “Enjoy the coffee pot, Asswipe.”

Thomas was amused when Tauri had demanded he share the king sized bed with her. She had forced him to sleep on one side while an expanse of bed separated them, and she had abruptly climbed in on her side underneath the covers while he remained on top of them. He had fallen asleep, watching her breath stir the sheets that were wrapped around her in her usual warm cocoon that she eventually wrapped herself in while she dreamed. Her phone was ringing non stop, but only in the morning did she start getting annoyed with it.
Tauri was refusing to answer the phone. She rolled over in her bed, and unceremoniously stuffed her cell phone underneath her pillow to silence the incessant ringer that was grating on her nerves. She looked over to the sleeping figure next to her and sighed. He slept on the outside of the covers, fully clothed, facing towards her, his long, muscled arms wrapped around himself as if though he was trying to keep from touching her. The bandana had been shed from his face, and so, the dirty blonde hair fell across his eyes and shadowed his handsome face from her gaze.
The cell phone made the pillow sing again, and Tauri groaned, grabbed it, and snapped it open. “What?!” She growled. Frankie’s calm voice inquired her whereabouts, and she answered him sharply. “I’m at home, and I’m not coming in today or over the weekend! Stop calling me!” She turned off the cell phone, snapped it shut, and threw it over her shoulder, and when she looked at Thomas, her eyes came in contact with amber orbs, watching her patiently.
One of the arms uncurled from his body, and he gently pushed back red hair from her face and caressed her cheek. Where Thomas couldn’t be quiet outside of the bedroom, in the bed, he chose his words carefully, and Tauri was secretly glad that he wasn’t some lovesick teenager. His fingertips traced her jaw as they faced each other, and then, they slipped to her red lips, and he traced them painstakingly, as if though he were remembering her features by brail.
She closed her eyes and pressed her lips to the rough calluses of his fingertips, letting him know that the touch was welcomed and somewhat hoped for. She felt him draw her into his arms, and instead of attacking her lips with his, or touching her in places that would set her on fire, he merely pulled her against his chest, resting his chin on her head. “You sleep ok, sweetheart?”
“Mmm. Yes. I slept ok.” She inhaled the familiar scent of Thomas and closed her eyes. “I can’t stop worrying about Jenny. I don’t know what to do about Damion.” She whispered. Thomas immediately shushed her and ran his long, deft fingers through her flaming red hair, whispering and kissing her forehead fervently.
“No, baby. Don’t worry. I can tell everything will be fine. If he didn’t hurt her last night, he won’t hurt her now. She’s special, and I think you know that. People can’t raise a hand to her if they’ve got a humane thought in their mind. She’s just too damn sweet.” He tightened his arms around Tauri and sighed softly.
“I had a really weird dream about you.” She muffled against his chest.
“What dream?” He asked gently, letting her scoot back slightly in his arms so that he could see her beautiful face.
“I dreamed you were an angel. And you were so strong, and you had a sword that was bigger than my body. You had these huge snow white wings that swept all your enemies out of the way, and when you flew to me, you fell on your knees and started crying, tell me not to go.” She looked up at him. “It was really beautiful, but it was sad at the same time.”
“Sounds like you’ve been watching too much science fiction TV.” Thomas snorted wryly.
“Oh, I know.” Tauri smiled sheepishly. “But it was so real. I could feel the wind from your wings when you flew.”
Tauri was getting distracted from her story as Thomas’ hands slowly peeled the covers away from her sparsely clothed body and began to run his fingers down her arm, rubbing the small of her lithe back, and tracing the contours of her ribs, barely brushing the undersides of her breasts. “Was I good looking in your dream?” He asked as his fingertips found their way inside her tank top, brushing the skin of her stomach, making her breath catch and a slight whimper escape her lips.
“You were beautiful.” She gasped softly as he gazed into her eyes. His eyes dared her to look away as his fingers trailed up her stomach, and found the delicate spread of her ribcage right underneath her breasts. When she thought she’d die of anticipation of his touch, he traced a finger up her chest and covered her right breast with a large, warm hand, causing her to emit a low, smoky moan, heating his blood to a near boil. She opened her eyes wide, trying to shake the haze of lust, but all she could do was please. “We shouldn’t….” She was cut off as two deft fingers lightly tweaked a nipple.
“We shouldn’t…do what?” Thomas growled softly. His eyes never left hers as he touched her, and as a result, she was extremely aroused by his boldness and the combined danger of their actions. The second hand rested curled around her head, the fingers resting and gently stroking the soft skin of her neck, making her purr with pleasure. The hand left her breast, and it stroked gently towards the waist band of her flannel pajama pants, making her breath catch again.
Thomas’ eyes burned into hers, daring her to tell him to stop, daring her to pull away. Neither of those were possible at the moment that his hand slipped underneath the waistband of her pants and brushed the silken folds of her sex. She gasped in shock, and her hips slightly bucked forward as his finger penetrated her, sliding inside, feeling out the familiar contours of her body’s walls, making her whimper and gasp desperately. Thomas spoke again, this time, his voice deep and husky. “Tell me what we shouldn’t be doing…”
Tauri gasped and tossed her head, the red hair splaying across his arm and the pillow like a wave of fiery silk. “We…shouldn’t be stopping.” She whispered. At the unspoken plea, Thomas’ lips crashed down over hers like a heat wave, his tongue forcing entrance into her mouth, making her eyes water with the comfort and familiarity of his kiss. Her arms wrapped around his neck tighter, and he found himself pulling his hand from her and rolling to be on top of her, as long, lithe legs wrapped around his narrow waist.
Tauri’s eyes widened at the hard arousal pressing against her heat, and he ground into her with a firm motion, making licks of passion skitter through her body like rocks on the surface of water. He did it again, and this time, he elicited a cry of pleasure from the beauty beneath him, making him that much more aroused. He felt Tauri shimmy out of her pajamas, and when he felt the tips of her fingers pulling at the button of his jeans, and pulling down the zipper, his heart nearly stopped neatly in his chest.
In a tangle of limbs, they found themselves both naked, pressed into each other, Tauri’s lips exploring the vast expanse of his tanned chest, her fingertips pressing into his back as he kissed her collarbone, soft words escaping his lips against her pale, freckled skin. “Tell me you don’t want me, baby. Tell me to stop. Please….” His words were tortured, painful, and strained. His hands smoothed down her body even as he spoke to her, the fingertips worshipping the smooth skin that stretched out over lean muscle and long legs. “Please… Tauri… Don’t let me love you again.”
Tauri’s blue eyes slid open, and she buried her fingers in his hair, tilting his eyes to hers, and she kissed his lips softly before she spoke, their actions pausing. “How can I tell you that if you never stopped loving me to begin with?” She stole a deep kiss from him, shifting her hips underneath his, allowing him to settle against her in a perfect, old fit. “How can I tell you that if I never stopped loving you?” She demanded breathlessly after the kiss.
Thomas’ hazel eyes misted over as he felt tiny, slender fingers sliding around his erection, and guiding him to a sheath of tight, perfect heat. Before pressing into her, he brushed his lips over hers, and he allowed a sad smile to cross his lips. “Forever, baby.” He thrust into her in one, bone wrenching move, causing her back to arch up off the bed, and making himself emit a low, keening moan that heated Tauri’s blood immediately. His hand slid down on a smooth, silk thigh and he rested his hand at the back of her knee as he slowly began to thrust into her, his eyes never leaving hers.
The pace soon quickened, Tauri growling and arching against him like a wanton creature of lust, her legs nearly crushing his ribs each time he thrust into her. He could feel tiny shivers caressing his length at every stroke into her, and every time, she seemed tighter, hotter, and more wild. Her neck arched, head pressing into the pillows as she screamed, her completion suddenly wrapping around him like a vice. He cried out in pleasure, and fisted his hands in her hair, pulling her head back further, allowing him to hungrily press his lips to the smooth, flesh covered column.
His thrusting almost became savage, but by the feel of her body, he could tell that Tauri was still in the throws of her passion, and in that moment, Thomas wondered how long she had waited to touch another man after they’d broken up. He thrust into her again, and the heat that had been pooling in his belly released in a sudden blinding white pleasure of relief, and he screamed her name into her neck as he poured his essence into her body.
In the aftermath of their lovemaking, he expected Tauri to push him away, but his worries were short-lived as she wrapped her arms around him and prevented him from pulling away from her. She rained small kisses on his neck and shoulders, whispering small, sweet nothings in his ears, making his breathing calm and stabilize. He leaned back slightly, and running a finger through her hair, he smiled down on her, and she smiled back. She lightly kissed his cheeks and echoed their promise to each other. “Forever, baby.”

The origin of love was not in this place, and it made Jason’s heart break for Lucifer even as he relaxed quietly against his body.
