The Journey
The bus was moving so incredibly slow, almost as if it was dragging a stubborn elephant behind it. Looking out the window I saw her bus pass us by and I was filled with a surge of happiness. Arriving at my stop i shot off the bus and went in a near-run to my house.
Both of my parents work, my mom is a lawyer and my dad works in the government, something top secret (the 'if I tell you, I'll have to kill you' kind) and they don't get home until late due to their long commute and rush hour. Unlocking the door with my key and going in, I dropped my bag on the floor before heading for the phone. My mom insisted that I called when I got home, especially if I planned to go out.
*ring ring*
"Hello?"
"Hey mom, its me"
"Hello Jess, how was your day?"
"Good, I'm going over to Kate's for awhile. I'll take my cell phone"
"Alright, oh Jess, could you cook dinner tonight? I have a meeting with a client scheduled later than usual."
"Sure no problem. Bye"
"Bye honey"
I hung up the phone, placing it back in the holder. First making sure my cell phone was clipped to my side, I left the house locking the door heading to my backyard. Using the other key on my ring I opened the door to the shed to reveal my bike amoung other things. It had a rack over the back tire for tying things down, my dad had added it on after I got it. Going into the very back of the shed I got two bean bags and some rope. Taking a moment to secure them to the bike, I rolled the bike out, locked the shed and wobbled off.
The wind whipped past my face, making my eyes water as I headed to our spot. 'what am I going to say? what is SHE going to say?' Forcing the thoughts out of my head I focused on pumping the pedals faster up the hill. I arrived at the beginning of the trail five minutes later.
Kate's bike was already there, leaning against a tree. I put my bike next to hers and untied the bean bags, taking them with me. Kicking some branches out of the way I made my way along the trail to the clearing. Setting the bags at the edge of the clearing I looked up to see Kate lying in the grass staring at the clouds.
A/N: I apologize for the short chapter. I had meant to write more, but I got side tracked with other projects and responsiblities. I'll try to post the confrontation tomorrow or tuesday
