Chapter 4

“Ah you made it, mistress. Your color is much better I take it you fed before the master left?” She asks.

“Yes. He’s not happy with me at all I can tell” You reply.

“Patience was never an easy thing for the Master. I was surprised he allowed you to leave the crypt and stay upstairs. Come on into the kitchen and drink some more of this brew. Then we can do whatever you would like to do.” Miranda says with a laugh.

“I take it you’re under orders to babysit me?” You ask.

“Do you think he would have it any other way?” Miranda said with a laugh.

You go into the kitchen to drink the brew Miranda had prepared. She starts telling you about her family, a small band of gypsies.

“Maybe tonight if you would like to you could come visit them with me?” Miranda asks.

“I don’t know.” You say in a worried tone.

“There wouldn’t be any need to worry. They know who and what you are and my dear they’ve invited you. You are part of the family now.” She explains.

“Actually I want to go and play my violin for awhile. I’m not even sure I remember how to play. Let me give it a shot and then we can go.” You say softly.

“Not a problem, my mistress.” Miranda says as she fills your cup with hot water.

You drink the brew and sit there thinking about the last words he said to you about having it both ways. You weren’t asking to have it both ways you just wanted time to adjust. You just needed time to find some balance.

You finish the brew and find your way to the music room. Looking around the room you find your violin laying on top of the piano. Slowly you open the case and run your fingers across the bridge. You pull out the bow and start to rosin up your bow. You always loved the pine type scent of the rosin. You start out by just playing some simple scales. Okay you think to yourself that was easy let’s try a song. You pick a slow, sad gypsy song you had heard long, long ago. Heck you didn’t even know the name of it all you knew was when you played it you played it with your heart.

You didn’t even notice Miranda walk into the room. She stood there watching you silently. You finish the gypsy piece and move to Paganini’s Caprice No 16.Miranda watches in awe as you finish the piece.

“Mistress, that was wonderful.” She says as you jump slightly.

“Didn’t know I had an audience? I guess I still have it. Broke two strings but I still have it.” You state looking down at your fingers on your left hand which are now bleeding.

“I can always buy more strings that’s no problem. Now come with me to meet my family.” Miranda says with a smile.

You slowly put your violin away and follow Miranda out of the room. You felt a little uneasy leaving the house for the first time without him.

It’ll be okay Miranda will not let anything happen to you.

His words stop you in your tracks.

Must you always be in my head?

You hear him laugh but he says no more. You follow Miranda outside and you head down a worn path thru the woods there by the mansion. You can hear music in the distance. Within a few more minutes you enter a clearing where there are wagons and tents set up.

“Ah Miranda. I was beginning to think you were not stopping by this evening Oh my and this, this is the master’s life mate.” An older woman said as she came over to where you and Miranda are standing.

“My dear we’ve been expecting you for sometime now. Once he finally owned the painting, we knew it was only a matter of time before he found and possessed you. Now come over here and let’s talk about the turmoil in your soul.” The older woman said as she beckoned you into one of the tents.

You look over at Miranda and she nods approvingly. You follow the older woman into the tent. She motions for you to sit on a chair along the side of the tent.

“I was nervous that people would be frightened of me when Miranda asked me to come here tonight.” You say nervously.

“We have respected and served the vampire for many years now. We know we have nothing to fear especially from you. You have been sent here to finally set the master free from his torment. You are here to be the light in his darkness.” She replied as she lit a few candles.

“He calls me his angel but yet I don’t feel so angelic. He gets so angry with me sometimes.” You say realizing how easy it is to talk to the older woman.

“He’s still healing from being captive. A century without companionship almost drove him over the edge. You were the one thing that kept him from completely going mad. He always felt one day he would find you. Now he has you but doesn’t quite know how to treat you. Both of you need to learn patience with each other.” She explains.

You hear something outside the tent something calling you softly.

“Do you hear that?” You ask.

“Yes I do, child. He’s near and he’s calling for you. Mind you it’s not his mind which calls to you it’s his heart. Go to him.” She replies.

Slowly you leave the tent and walk out into the woods. Miranda sees you and starts to follow.

“No, she’ll be fine.” The elder says to her.

The woods are very dark and a fog has covered the ground. Slowly you walk out deeper and deeper until you end up by a small stream. You look over and see him kneeling by the stream.

“What are you doing here?” He asks.

“You called for me.” You reply walking closer to him.

“No, I didn’t. You wanted to be left alone so I was leaving you alone.” He replies getting slightly angry.

“Please don’t be angry with me. I’m...well I’m just scared and confused.” You say turning your back to him and walking up towards a huge magnolia tree.

“I don’t know what it is I am supposed to do sometimes. You waited so long for me and now I am scared to death that there is no possible way I can live up to your expectations of me. To wait so long and to be so disappointed.” You continue to say.

You turn around to see what he is thinking and you notice you are alone. How could he be so cruel? The tears well up in your eyes as you make your way back to the camp. Miranda meets you at the entrance.

“What’s wrong?” Miranda asks.

“It’s just the same old crap Miranda. I need to go home and be alone.” You say as your start to walk around her.

“Okay we’ll go now.” Miranda says as she starts to follow you.

“No stay and have fun. I really just want to be alone.” You reply as you quickly head back home.
