The Wolf Breaks Free
Chapter 3
The wolf breaks free
As I sit here on my bed thinking about freedom, I could hear them talking downstairs. They were saying something about going out to the theater tonight.
I knew the only time I would be able to escape, is when my brother came up here to feed me. I lay on my bed waiting for the time when I would make my escape.
The hours past slowly for me this day, worrying and waiting until I would make my escape from this house and this horrible life.
Finally for what to me seemed like forever I could now hear my older brother coming up the steps to my room.
Crouching low against the wall next to the door; I waited ready to spring forth and tie up my brother when he entered my room. I was very tense until I heard the door open, jumping at my brother I over powered him and tied his hands and feet then I gagged him and put my brother on the bed.
Bolting full tilt out of my room I ran as fast as my feet would allow down the stairs and out of the front door. When I reached the front yard I didn’t stop running, knowing if I did my father would catch me and give me a beating I would never forget.
My heart pounded in my chest and my lungs burned from the lack of air, but still I ran.
Running into the forest I looked for a place to rest, when I found I small cave behind a waterfall I ran into it.
Collapsing to the cave floor I panted hard trying to catch my breath, I could barely breathe from running for so long.
I figured I must have ran at least 30 miles in 3 hours, as soon as they caught up to where I am now I would be long gone.
When I finally caught my breath I could not help but start laughing, {I’M FREE!} is all I could think right now.
I finally am free; free from a life of suffering in that place I was forced to call home.
I had made my dream come true, I had gained the freedom I have always wanted. I knew one thing then, not matter what happens now I will never go back to that house.
Sighing contently, I decided to rest for the night here in this cave. I knew that my father and brother were by now looking for me, but also knew that I would take them at least 2 days to get to where I am now.
Crawling out of the cave I went and gathered some firewood and returned to the cave. Setting the wood on the cave floor, I then started a fire.
Once the fire was going I curled into a ball and fell into a deep contented sleep. Tomorrow I would leave here and start my new life as a free wolf.
