“So what do you do around here for fun?” Kali asked this as Nate took the saddle off her horse.
“Well what’s your idea of fun?” he said playfully back as he put the saddle on one of the racks in the tack room.
“I don’t know… anything that isn’t sitting around in my apartment, or something.”
Nate chuckled at this and started telling her about all the things that you could do in the town… which apparently wasn’t much. There was a small movie theater the next town over that he had talked about for a while. But other than that it usually had to do with horses or just hanging around town. Kali sighed. This was so much simpler than New York had ever been. Most of it actually remotely interested her. At least it’s a start, she thought.
Little did she realize that Nate was watching her think this over. He was staring at her, pondering something as well.
“Listen do you want to do something besides these lessons… outside of horses… like go with my friends and I to hang out? I think you would fit in pretty well…”
Was he seriously asking her this? Her to go with him too meet his friends? Was she even worthy? That’s just silly of me, she thought. Nathan was gorgeous, inside and out, of course she wanted to see more of him. Well at least she should give it a try… even though she had only known him for about two days, he seemed to genuinely like her.
“Sure, I think that would be amusing, moving out here in the beginning of summer hasn’t exactly helped with making friends.” She said.
“Great! Ummm… could I possibly get your number, so I can call you when we go out?”
“Sure as long as you give me yours.” She replied smiling.
He arranged horse lessons with her from now on every Saturday and 1 pm and they would have some lessons in between, too, it just depended what day. She really was very happy, she hadn’t had anything to do when she moved here and now Nate had opened tons of doors for her. Kali liked him even more than she did before and she really didn’t even know him. They had walked out of the barn now and he was talking to her in front of her car.
At that moment they heard a truck pull up outside, it had a large horse trailer attached to the back. It pulled up the rode and stopped by their side. Kali looked at Nate and saw him grinning. The door to the white Chevy truck opened and two men came out smiling too. Nate pulled them in a big hug. Kali then saw a smaller, younger girl that was about 18 come up behind them and wait until Nate had finished hugging the men before he pulled her in a hug as well. At that moment Kali couldn’t believe she actually felt jealous of the girl in his arms. She kissed him on the cheek and pulled away.
“Hey Nathan we leave for a few days and we come back to see you with this very good looking girl? Why are we so unlucky?” Nate only smirked at them and then laughed.
“Kali meet my brothers Brandon and Matt. Yes, they are twins, and yes then use it to their advantage with girls and yes, they are perverts.” Kali smiled at this They looked a bit older than Nate and their eyes were a darker blue. Their hair was also a bit darker too. Kali guessed they must have been around 26 years old. Turning to the smaller girl Nathan introduced Kali to his sister Mary.
“It’s nice to meet you Kali said smiling.” Mary had the innocent look going for her, her blonde hair and big round baby blue eyes made her look like that. She smiled at Kali and shook her hand. Kali could also tell by her eyes though, that she wasn’t that innocent, she was raised by 3 older brothers after all.
“Are you coming to celebrate with us tonight?” asked one of Nate\'s brothers.
“No I don’t think so…”
“Aww come one Nate you didn’t even invite her? You are a very bad person.” Said the other pretending to scold his little brother, but failing miserably because he was smiling so much.
“ Brandon I didn’t know we were going to celebrate or even what we are celebrating for.” answered Nate.
“ Well now you do and let me be the first to ask her to come and celebrate with us tonight.” Said one of the twins.
“And by celebration we mean going to dinner with us and then celebrating afterward.” Said a twin suggestively.
“ Awww you beat me too it.” Said the other one.
“ I think I’ll just go and have dinner with you then.” said Kali smiling.
“ouch.” they both said at the same time.
“ Well then, Nathan will tell you about how were meeting at the pub at 7 o’clock tonight.” Said Mary who was smiling. “And thank you Kali, it’s about time that those two got put in their place.” Both the girls laughed at the looks the twins gave them.
“ Well these horses need to be put up, see you later tonight, ummm what did you say your name was?”
“Kali.”
“See you at 7 tonight Kali.” All of the 3 went back into the truck and went off on the rode farther down to unload the horses in the back.
“I am so sorry you had to go through that.” Nate said, shaking his head while looking at the ground with a small smile tugging at his lips. “My brothers are complete idiots.” He said now fully smiling. “ But I think they like you.”
She laughed. “ I think they like me too, but can I ask you something? How do you tell them apart?”
“ There is really no way, you just kind of figure it out after a while, but don’t worry they respond to both of their names.” He told Kali.
“Well then it might take me a while.” She smiled.
Nathan just smiled back and said: “So the Pub is on Main Street and 5th. It’s easy to find because its one of the only flashing lights in this town other than the street lights and stop lights… So I’ll see you there at 7?”
“You know it… I just also wanted to thank you for today, I really would have never touched a horse again if it wasn’t for you… so thanks.” She pulled him into an awkward hug. He seemed a little stunned at first but then relaxed and hugged her back, reveling at how she fit perfectly to him. When she let go he was a little more than disappointed. But then again, he would see her tonight and maybe get to know her better.
He couldn’t help the warm feeling rising in his chest, he was starting to like Kali more and more. He thought about the night ahead as he helped her into her car and stood there as she drove away. He was still tingling from her touch long after she was gone.
