Chapter 4 – Spring Break – Part 4

“I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored, I’m bored,” Shai’s whining voice flowed down the hall towards Shinji Taiikuka, who knew little of what to do for his daughter. She was nearly due, and her stomach protruded to the point where it just made his daughter feel miserable. It also made life worse for her that her friends were out enjoying spring break while Shai was forced to stay indoors. Well, she was forced by herself to stay indoors. She was becoming increasingly embarrassed by her pregnancy status, to the point where she did not even want Kyoei to see her.

Shinji walked up to his daughter’s door and looked in on her. She was lying on her side, awkwardly, and throwing cards into an old wool hat that didn’t even stand up straight. She was more just throwing cards to throw cards. “I’m going out,” he told her. “Are you sure you are going to be all right on your own if I leave?”

“I’m not due for two weeks,” Shai pointed out. “I will be fine. Bored, but fine.”

“You know,” Shinji said as slyly as he could, “You could always watch television, read a book, or, my gosh, do your homework!”
“Nah,” Shai said bluntly. “Too much concentration and I feel like I could use another nap.”

Shinji tried not to roll his eyes. He was counting down the days until this lump of flesh became his daughter again. Shai was normally so vibrant, and here she just looked outright depressed. She was just outright depressed, to be honest with the world, but Shinji could only hope that it would go away with time.

“Go Dad,” Shai said, looking up at her father. She smiled, which was an improvement. “I am going to be fine on my own for a couple of hours. You deserve to have a date. Kyoei will be here in an hour or so to check on me anyway, so you needn’t worry.”

“Yes I need,” Shinji sighed. “You are my daughter, I always worry. I worried the first day you went to school, I worried the first time you tried tennis, and I worried when you started sleeping in your own bed without me or your mom. I have to worry, it’s in the blood when you become a father.”

Shai laughed and placed her hands onto her stomach. “Dad, go out and have fun,” she told him. “I will be fine.” Her father left and Shai regretted her lie. Kyoei was not coming by. He was out with Amatsu this evening; the two of them were going to go frequent a club as patrons, instead of the deejay. They had invited Fuji and Shai along, but everyone knew Shai would say no, and that Fuji would say no because now that she had Amatsu clubs were really not her scene.

Fuji did not seem worried that the men were going out, without them, and purposefully. Fuji just shrugged it off, telling Shai that they needed some time to themselves to just be men. It made Shai sick to her stomach, or else it was awful morning sickness. Kyoei and Shai were not having sex; she was too big and in no mood. After she had the baby she definitely would not be having sex either. Not for a while. Yes Kyoei is the sweetest guy ever, but even he has needs, needs that Shai is not fulfilling.

The door closed behind her father and Shai closed her eyes, knowing he had left the house and probably would not be back until morning, if the date went well. She wanted him to be here with her, she wanted her daddy, and it was a sad feeling. She wanted her father to come protect her, and at the same time, in just a few short weeks, she would be the one protecting another living soul. She wasn’t ready.

The door downstairs opened again. She ignored it, along with the footsteps coming up the stairs. Her father, the absent-minded millionaire, probably forgot his keys in his room, or else he forgot to bring some condoms. Shai shuddered at the thought.

It was not until her bedroom door opened that she realized the footsteps were not like her father’s, they were heavier, a definite thud to them instead of the light springy step of her father. Her eyes went wide and she sat up as quickly as she could. By the time she was completely sitting up she was face to face with Teiyoku Tennison.

“Mr. Tennison!” she cried, sitting back and knocking her delicate head into the headboard. “Ow!” she hissed, placing her hand to the back of her head.

Teiyoku reached towards her, reaching for her hand and glancing at the back of her head. “Your family really needs to be more careful,” he explained. “Do you realize your father left the front door unlocked, with you inside?”

“He always does that,” she hissed, trying to pull away from him. “Kyoei is coming over later and so he leaves the door unlocked so I do not have to waddle down and open it for him. What are you doing here, Mr. Tennison?”

“Do you not think it time you start calling me Teiyoku?” he asked, taking a step back from her. “I have been trying to tell you for a while, that since I am the father of your baby, you should be on friendlier terms with me.”

“You are going to have absolutely nothing to do with this child,” snapped Shai, her voice rising with anger. “I have been telling you since the beginning this is no longer your responsibility. I am going to live with the consequences, but I do not have to live with you fighting to be in this baby’s life.”

“I’m not fighting to be in the baby’s life,” Teiyoku argued, “I am fighting to be in yours.” He leaned forward, kneeling onto the bed to get to her, and covered her mouth with his, kissing her with more passion than he ever had in the beginning of what was never close to a relationship. He leaned her back, forcing her down, holding her arms down at her sides so she could not fight, and he continued to kiss her, licking her lips with fervor. Shai tried to fight, she tried to fight the passion in her belly and the hatred she wanted to feel. She tried, but was failing. There was something about the way he was kissing her that made her feel like a true woman, where Kyoei made her feel like a child that needed to be taken care of.

Which is what she was.

“No,” she murmured through the kiss. She fought harder, nipping at Teiyoku’s lip to try to make him stop. He only took it as invitation to kiss her deeper, his tongue surrounding hers, and for another moment she fell into the spell he was good at casting around her, then she bit harder, hard enough for him to release her.

“You are married now,” she snapped breathlessly.

“For the money,” he admitted to Shai.

Shai shook her head, kicking at him with one leg. She may not have her normal strength in her legs, if only because she could not move much around her stomach, but the annoyance would push him off of her soon enough. “You are going on a honeymoon, where you will make love to your new wife. Go be with Noriko Chenbaro-Tennison. I have someone else now.”

“I want to be with you Shai,” Teiyoku told her breathlessly.

“You are too late for that,” Shai insisted. “You could have been with me, you had so much time to be with me, and now you have chosen not to. Don’t want me now because I am in love with someone else.”

“That isn’t it,” Teiyoku denied. “Shai, I have always been in love with you.”

Shai tried not to choke on the tears that were welling up. Damn him! How dare he tell her this now? Why did he not tell her this when she needed to hear it? Now she just wanted him to disappear off of the face of the planet.

“Go back to your wife,” Shai snarled with venom. “I want you out of this house or else I will call the police.”

Teiyoku stood, looking down at the girl he could have had if he had only made the right decision then. Instead he was looking down at a girl who had love and loathing in her eyes at once, and it would never be a good combination.

“Let me have you one last time,” he whispered to her. “Let me make love to you one more time before I am to be with my wife.”
“No,” Shai said firmly, though her resolve was not as in firm in place as she would have liked it to be. “Please leave,” her voice was growing quieter.

Teiyoku leaned forward, to give Shai a goodbye kiss, but instead let his lips fall to her earlobe, kissing it softly, a sweet spot that often made her moan. She shuddered and writhed and he let his hands fall around her body, trailing up her sides, caressing the plump breasts that had grown firmer and fuller with her pregnancy. He toyed with the nipples, running his thumb outside of her shirt and over them, feeling them grow taught against her shirt. She leaned back for a second, to enjoy the feel of his caress, of his well practiced fingers, then pushed him. “Leave,” she said with as much firmness as she could muster. She hoped she would not have to repeat it again, for if she did she would just let him have his way.

“I am not going to give up,” he told her, pushing himself from the bed.

Shai shook her head and covered herself with the blanket protectively. “You only want me because another man has me,” Shai said sadly. “Do not come back, Teiyoku, you are not welcome in this house, or in this child’s life.”

Teiyoku looked down at her, at a loss for words. There were so many things he wanted to say, but none of them would have been what was right for that moment. He had lost her, it was his own fault, but he would fight for her again.

He turned and left without another word, leaving Shai to think about what had just happened. Shai reached over to her cell phone and quickly dialed Kyoei’s phone number. He answered on the first ring. “Are you all right?” he asked without even saying hello. “No contractions or anything of the sort, is there?”

Shai gave off a small laugh. “No,” she said softly. “I was just calling to hear your voice once more before you go out. It may help me sleep.”

“Want me to say something sexy? I could always be like, ‘So, sugar, what’s your sign?’ Or, ‘I love those pants, they will look great on my bedroom floor.’”

“You can’t see my pants,” Shai laughed.

“Oh, but I’ve seen them, and I agree they look great on the floor, or on you, or in the drawer. You have great taste in pants.”

“Are you dating me for my pants?” Shai asked, letting the smile filter over her face.

“You caught me,” Kyoei said sadly. “Shai, I am with you because of your pants.”

“Loser.”

Kyoei laughed heartily on the other end. “Sweetie, we were just about to get going, but I will call you and let you know when I get home.”

“No matter what time?”

“Of course, I love waking your cute little butt up at 3 in the morning when you are all groggy and sleepy and annoyed.”

Shai smiled, though he could not see it. It was what she had needed to make her forget. “Talk to you later handsome,” Shai said softly.

“Sleep well until I wake you,” he said back, then they both hung up, one none the wiser of the mistake the other had nearly made.
