Icafia 4
Chapter by Aniphx.
----
A young man worked quietly in a small, cluttered room. Various schematics and mechanical plans were spread across the small table or tacked upon the wall. Faint traces of smoke floated from the man’s project. It was some kind of powered gauntlet, almost complete. He wiped the sweat from his brow.
“Damn woman, sticking me in a room the size of a closet.” the man swore, ”I dunno what I saw in her.”
He clicked a piece into place and leaned back. It was done. The gauntlet whirred to life, the green LED flickering on.
“A slight delay, perhaps I will tweak it later.”
He rolled up the sleeve of his shirt and placed the gauntlet on his forearm. He pressed a button, securing the device to his arm.
“I think I should make sure this works okay. I think there are some empty crates in the storeroom.”
The man quietly left the room, down the dimly lit hallway. Despite his attempt to be quiet, the man stumbled down the hall with the grace of a drunken hobo. One would think he couldn’t walk. Upon reaching his destination, he heard the familiar click of a handgun. The man froze and flattened himself against the wall in a panic. He regained his composure and peered around the corner of the wall. A young woman with a katana was being held at gunpoint by none other than his boss, The Crystal Method.
“So, we meet again…” the Crystal Method said. “I actually thought you were dead for a second. I should have known better.” she drawled in her slightly high pitched voice. “Wait til Ncolski finds my latest catch.”
‘Great, business as usual.’
The young woman spun around to face her assailant, ready to draw her blade.
“Oh, so now you’re in league with that bitch?” she said.
The sound of many clicks filled the room. The man shuddered at the sound, for he heard it many times before.
“Ah, ah. I wouldn’t do that if I were you…” said The Crystal Method. “Meet my new squad, the Kumas.”
‘Damn those fucking Kumas. It takes a real quack to base an assassin group after that.’
The man looked on as the Kumas armed their various weapons. He was eyeing one in particular; the RPG user.
‘He’s gonna make a mess of things.’
The young woman held her ground, despite the obvious disadvantage she had. Suddenly she bolted for the corner of the room. The Kumas opened fire, vainly trying to subdue the woman. The man watched in horror as she came running his way.
“Number 7, blow her straight to hell!”
At the words of the self proclaimed goddess, The Kuma fired his RPG.
‘Damn, its gonna hit me too! Damn that woman.’
Just as the young assassin passed him, the man jumped to the center of the hall, his gauntleted arm in front of him.
‘I hope this works.’
He closed his eyes as a blinding flash engulfed him. But when he felt nothing, he reopened them. The gauntlet was emitting an energy barrier that blocked the explosion. The Crystal Method’s eyes burned in anger.
“Leo! What the hell are you doing? You are in my way!”
“Sorry, when someone tries to blow me up, I tend to get defensive.”
“You shall pay the price for betraying the goddess.”
Leo took a step back. The remaining Kumas had their sights squared upon him. Leo raised the gauntlet again, only to find that it lost power. Just before the Kumas fired upon him, a small metal ball hit the ground in front of him. It exploded, filling the room with smoke. A hand grabbed Leo from behind, pulling him backward.
“If you want to get out alive, come with me.”
