Friday
Friday.
This day began pretty much the same as the previous day. Mom came over it a slightly better mood, but still decided to treat me with a quick dose of Adrian-bashing. Somehow I managed to bargain and bribe my way into having her watch Tony and Erick for the night so that I could go out with Jayson to the bar for drinks. Normally Adrian is home and watches them, but with him being gone, I now have more than one reason to need a drink. Because it was Friday, I sighed heavily, thankful that I could wear some jeans and a tee shirt. I rushed out for my bus and caught my train with no problem. The train ride was the same, but this time I couldn’t really sleep. She was on my mind. My heart and stomach fluttered as if I was going to meet my idol. I felt silly. Why does she get to me like this? I looked around at the other people on the train. Are they facing issues like this in their worlds? From the morning and the train ride, I was expecting my day to be as uneventful, but I was very wrong. The day was peaceful. As I basked in my content of just daydreaming of Christine, I was shocked when Jayson invited me to lunch with him, Randle, and Christine.
As we walked, I tried to feel comfortable and act as I normally did around the guys, but I didn’t feel that things were going as planned. As Christine walked up front with Jayson, immediately Randle started talking to me about her ass. Any other time, I could laugh, joke, and point, but this time it felt so awkward. I was so afraid of making a foul of myself in front of her that my response was limited to a light chuckle and a ‘uh huh.’ I could tell that Randle was wondering about my response, but I quick diverted his attention to another big tittied, round assed female walking towards us. As Randle wolf-whistled and ogled the woman in passing, it gave me the opportunity to get another long look at Christine. Today, she was wearing a long skirt and tee shirt that said, “Unless I voted for you, your opinion doesn’t matter.” Her overall look was similar to Ashya, but different. They both have long blond hair, piercing blue eyes and olive skin. But where Asyha treasures her mother-earth Wicken-look, Christine had a more modern graphics style. Looking at her was like looking at a runway model in slow motion. Everything about her at that moment was perfect. The wind blew threw her hair in all the right places. Her walk was if she was commanding superiority over all the other women that were walking the street. I could feel a tingle in my body as I ached to know her touch.
As we entered the restaurant, I calmed myself. This is beginning to sound a little stalkerish. We sat towards the back of the restaurant in a circular style booth. Both Randle and I were on the outsides of the ring while Jayson and Christine were on the inside. In this position, Christine was practically seated across from me and so I couldn’t help but catch her eyes each time I looked up.
Jayson started the conversation with useless information about his townhouse and his neighbors. In the back of my mind I wanted him to shut up, but I welcomed his conversation because it was probably the only thing to settle the uncomfortable silence. After the waiter took our orders, Randle finally touched on a topic I liked. Despite my current profession of graphic design and marketing, computers and electronics are and have always been a passion of mine. Having worked on them since I was 5, my understanding of the rivaled most certified technicians. Randle knew that I originally interviewed at the company for their computer position, but my lack of a degree or certification in the field left me in the position I’m in. Constantly looking over the shoulder of the moron they hired instead. Whenever Randle mentioned something this guy did, it was like an automated switch that forced me to start complaining.
“Hey, Camille, did you hear? Josh tried to set up the new backup sever last night and ended up crashing the network for 5 hours.”
I shook my head, “Dumb fuck..” Randle and Jayson laughed at my answer, as Christine looked puzzled. Randle then took it upon himself to explain, but I felt the need to clarify. “Josh is a moron that thinks his 18 month crappy electronics certification, is enough to be a certified A+ and Network technician. But this dumb fool didn’t even know the difference between a Internet and Extranet… The other day, he told me that Wilson’s office has faulty network ports because he couldn’t get the cable to fit in the wall plug. Because Einstein was trying to put it in the regular phone jack.” Randle and Jayson began to laugh and Christine followed suit. I smiled, now feeling looser and less worried about what she thought of me. My initial venting of work, now opened the gates for a better conversation. As we talked, I noticed how she hung on my every word. It was almost like the first date I had with Adrian. The gleam in his eye, that sparkle, that way he would smile at me as if he saw something in my face that called to him. I wondered the whole time if Randle and Jayson could feel the connection.
When we returned back to the office, I lost my high. Duckman was waiting for me at my office as if I were the only one gone. Jayson and Randle quickly ducked back to their offices trying to dodge the interoffice fire, but Christine stayed. “Um, you all were gone quite long. Now you do know that because your supervisor are gone, you stand as the only representative of your department?”
I didn’t upwardly respond. Not for lack of words, but more to keep myself from giving him a polite ‘fuck you.’ “She wasn’t the only one out, Mr. Petersen.” Hearing Christine’s voice make me snap out of my mad spell. For a second, I had forgotten she was there. “Me, Randle, and Jayson were out. Angela said it was okay.” Duckman huffed in disappointment. I know that fat bastard wants me fired just because I’m young, smarter than him and not a man, but thankfully Angela, the Vice President, sees me like her own daughter and therefore, I ain’t going no where. “Well it would nice if next you warn the higher-up so that we can know where you are in the event of an emergency.”
What, like you discovering that you really don’t know what the fuck you’re doing? The phrase burned my tongue, but instead I just nodded. I turned and watched Duckman’s wedgy walk down the hall in utter disgust. “That man is trying to make me blind.” Again, I must’ve been really wrapped up in my thoughts, because I didn’t realize that I had said that aloud until Christine started laughing. “You are so funny.” Christine said re-gathering herself. “Well, I try.” I shrugged. I was about to head back to my office when she grabbed my arm. “Hey Jayson was telling me about you guys going to a bar after work. Can I go?”
HELL YEH! Was in my mind, but calmly I said, “Sure, we’d love to have you along.”
