We must be neighborly... even if it kills us

Neighborly Friends...

Raquella had to remain in the hospital for almost a week, recuperating from her trauma. Summer was in the hospital for almost four times that long, staying until the doctor said she was strong enough to go home. Lucilla and Raquella also thought that it was because the doctor knew the child was from a female/female artificial insemination.

When Raquella finally brought Summer home, Kessie couldn’t get enough of her new sister. Summer was always being woken up from her nap by the over eager child.

Connor wanted them to send her back. He was use to being the baby, and didn’t like rivalry to his baby status.

Raquella stayed home for more than a month, trying her hardest to get well enough to return to work. She loved working for Charlie, who was more understanding than any other boss in the entire world, and a good Uncle too.

Lucilla and Raquella were happy, Summer had been with them for three months.

Then, one morning, they saw a moving truck next door.

“Raquella, let’s go be neighborly...” Lucilla said.

“Okay, Kessie, Connor...” Raquella was holding the three month old Summer, “Let’s go meet the neighbors.”

Kessie pulled on her shoes and helped Connor put on his, then the family walked over, with Summer in her carrier, to see the neighbors.

“Lookit! Mommy! Lookie Mama! They have twin babies!” Kessie ran up to see two little boys, sitting in car seat carriers, as their fathers were unpacking.

“Mark! Greg...” Raquella said, looking at Lucilla.

“We must be neighborly...” Lucilla walked over to them, “Greg, Mark... hello, how are you guys?”

Greg smiled, “Good, Lucilla, do you guys live around here?”

“Yes...” Raquella said, setting down Summer next to the twin boys, Ryan and Ian. Connor sat between the car seats, the seats creating a triangle around the young boy.

“We came over to see if we could help you move in a bit...” Lucilla said.

***

“MOMMY!” Connor was covering his ears, three babies were crying around him, “They are crying in stereo!”

Mark, who was helping Greg move in a couch, laughed, “Lucilla... the babysitter is going to go on strike.”

Lucilla smiled, then put the box down she was working on unloading and walked over to Connor. “You go help Kessie fold up the towels in the linen closet... I’ll babysit for a while.”

Connor smiled and ran off to help his sister, as Lucilla rocked each of the babies.

“Don’t you find it strange?” Raquella said, as she breast fed Summer late that evening.

“What do you mean?” Lucilla said.

“Well, I mean... these two men are... I mean, they kidnaped our children about three years ago... and now we are living next to them.” Raquella handed Summer to Lucilla.

“I know, it’s strange... but they are human too, besides, they aren’t violating their parole, that ended almost a year ago.” Lucilla took the baby and burped her, then sat her down in her bassinet and covered her up.

“Hey... isn’t that their room?” Raquella smiled, pointing.

“Yeah... and... they are trying to be... intimate.” Lucilla smiled, “Care to watch?”

“You read my mind.”

Mark’s mouth was assaulting Greg’s, as hands roamed all over each other’s naked torsos. Both Mark and Greg were naked from the waist up, and they were only wearing boxers at that.

Lucilla snuggled closer to Raquella.

Greg pulled Mark closer to him, grinding their bodies closer to each other. Mark let out a sigh and lowered his lovers boxers.

Raquella was just getting into it when they noticed Greg stop.

“What??? Why did they stop?” Lucilla said.

Greg left the room.

“I’m not sure...” Raquella said.

Moments later, Greg returned with both twins and bottles. Raquella realized what was going on.

“Oh, the babies were crying...” Raquella said.

Mark held Ryan and fed him, apparently not too happy at the interruption.

“Lucilla...” Raquella had picked up Connor from preschool the next afternoon. Raquella wasn’t happy.

“Yes?” Lucilla had started dinner of collard greens, fresh fruits and some chicken.

“Guess what YOUR son did today...”

“Whenever he gets into trouble, he is my son.” Lucilla smiled, then saw Connor’s face, “CONNOR MICHAEL! What happened to your eye?”

Connor had an impressive black eye. “I got in a fight Mommy...”

Lucilla looked up at Raquella, “I already know the story...” Raquella sighed, “Tell her why you got in a fight young man...”

Connor sighed, “Yes Mama... Mommy... Brad said I was a strange boy because I don’t have a Daddy, and I told him I was special because I have to Mommies, that love me and spoil me and I don’t need a Daddy, just like you two said, and then he called me a poopy head, so I hit him, and he hit me back.”

Lucilla smiled, “That’s my boy,” she patted Connor on his back.

Raquella glared at Lucy, “The boy got in a fight, dear...”

“I know, but he stood up for what he believes in... I think that deserves a reward.” Lucilla looked at her son.

“But...” Raquella sighed, turning to walk out of the kitchen, to retrieve the now crying Summer.

“Hey! What kind of reward?” Connor said, putting his coat on his special hook.

“How about... some... fruit ice for dessert?” Lucilla said, “I think we still have some raspberry ice in the freezer.”

Connor jumped up and down, “My favorite Mommy.”

***

Raquella didn’t approve of the... reward for getting into a fight, but Mommy had the final say about her son, so Raquella let it go.

“Mommy... Mama...” Kessie said, handing over the bread basket. “Can I have a sleep over for my seventh birthday coming up?”

Raquella shot a look at Lucilla, “What do you think?”

Lucilla smiled, “If she helps us set up, then I don’t see why not.”

Raquella nodded as Connor dug into his salad greens, “If she does her homework and cleans up her room... then yes, I agree.”

***

“Ugh... just what we need, several young, sugar crazy girls influencing our baby.” Raquella sighed as she brushed out her hair.

“Tell me about it, how we’ve raised our children crushed by four or more young ones who have different morals.” Lucilla said, rubbing lotion on her legs.

“Ugh, I remember... and what do we do if she invites those... Christian friends of hers?”

“I know what I’ll do... tell her no.”

“Lucilla, she’s almost seven years old, we can’t tell her no all the time, she’s growing up.” Raquella said, pulling back the blankets of their bed.

“I know, but do you remember the girls who father and mother sent us bibles every day for almost a week? Then at the PTA meeting, they said we were inhuman and all that.”

“And I recall someone pestering them...”

Lucilla laughed, “I only did that after they sent us seven bibles...”

“Lucilla! You wore your big pentagram to the meeting.” Raquella laughed, “It was too good.”

“Teach them to try and recruit me to something I don’t want to do...”

Raquella smiled, “Come to bed... please?”

Lucilla smirked, “Oh?”

Raquella patted the bed beside her, “Not tonight... I am exhausted, besides, Summer hasn’t been feeling well, I may have to stay home tomorrow.”

Lucilla smiled as she got into bed, “Damn...”
