Part 4
The next several days Brenna noticed Logan kept finding her at meal times. She couldn’t help but notice how well they got along. How much they had in common. She was becoming increasingly attracted to him. No longer was the attraction just a physical thing. It was becoming an emotional one as well.
He always greeted her with a kiss on the back of her hand. He was certain they were both attracted to each other though she seemed to be holding back. He was very careful to follow her lead and let things develop slowly on their own. Finally, after four days of talking and getting to know each other Logan asked Brenna out to dinner the next night.
“Brenna?” He looked deeply in her eyes.
“Yes, Logan?” She was fighting returning that longing look in his eyes.
“Have dinner with me tomorrow night. I’ve heard the resort has this wonderful formal restaurant.” He kept his gaze locked and saw her finally give in.
Brenna couldn’t help herself. She gave in and returned his meaningful look. As determined as she was not to feel anything for Logan she did.
“What time?” She stumbled out.
Logan smiled as she gave in to her feelings. “I’ll pick you up at seven. What’s your cabin number?”
Once the details were settled Brenna excused herself for the night. She wasn’t prepared to fall for anyone. Not now. How could she let this happen? Then again how could she deny her attraction to Logan? They shared so much in common and there seemed to be a silent understanding between them. Neither one of them had brought up the subject of work. It was as though they knew what the other was in this tropical hideaway for.
Logan joined her for breakfast the next morning. He smiled as he sat at her table.
“Morning, beautiful.” He kissed the back of her hand.
“Hi,” Brenna smiled back at him.
“Are you ready for tonight?” Logan gave her a playful wink as he let go of her hand.
“Not yet but I will be later on.” Brenna took a bite of her breakfast.
Logan gave her an appraising look. “Have I mentioned how wonderful you look in a swim suit?”
Brenna blushed. Of course he had mentioned it. He mentioned it every morning without fail. Still, words failed Brenna as he mentioned it again.
Logan smiled at her embarrassment. “Well, you do. I can’t wait to see how beautiful you look at dinner tonight.” He took her hand and kissed it again.
Brenna’s mind returned to work and she gave him an evil grin as a rather evil thought crossed her mind.
Logan saw the evil grin cross Brenna’s face. It was the first time he had seen this particular playful emotion from her and found it turned him on.
“What’s going on in that mind of yours?”
“Oh nothing.” Brenna couldn’t help teasing him. He had to know she had some evil, teasing thought cooking in her head.
Logan just stared at her not sure to prod her into sharing or to leave well enough alone.
Brenna’s smile spread when she saw he wasn’t sure to press her or not. This just made the thought all the more enjoyable. “What makes you think I won’t turn up in a burlap sack?”
“You would still be beautiful.” Logan realized he had finally broken through a wall he hadn’t realized was there. He liked this playful side of Brenna and wanted to make sure it stayed around. “I suppose I could turn up in a wooden barrel so we’d match.”
“But my dress might stick to the barrel. We could be stuck together the whole evening.” The playful light was still in her eyes.
“That could make it hard to eat dinner. I guess I’d better wear something less sticky.” He smiled at her.
“What would be less sticky that would match my burlap dress?” She was trying to imagine what he answer would be.
“I guess I’d just have to wear a matching burlap suit.” He was completely serious as he said this.
“Don’t forget the rope tie.” Brenna made a motion as though tightening a tie.
They both burst out laughing. Logan reached across the table and took her hand in his. Brenna found herself lost in his gaze. Their laughter stopped as they stared and moved slowly toward one another across the table.
Just as their lips were about to meet a bus boy came over to clear the table. The moment was lost. Brenna excused herself with a promise to see Logan at lunch. Logan swore under his breath as Brenna walked away.
