The Brethren

Chapter Three:

Jay wondered down the dimly lit street, he turned into a barely noticeable alley. Leaning against the cold brick of the wall, he lit his cigarette and waited for his captor to find him.

This was like a game to him, that he would never loose.

Hearing the tap of high heels on old concrete, He thought he had gotten a break. As the footsteps come ever closer, a smile inched its way across his face. When a shadow had passed his hiding place, he stepped out and drew up behind the distinct figure of Selenity.

Jay flicked the cigarette butt in front of Selenity.

With in seconds he had his strong arm around her throat cutting of her oxygen.

He thought that he had her right where he wanted her, but it was dead wrong.

Selenity brought her elbow into Jay\'s gut and he fell back a few paces but he regained his strength quickly.

Now he was facing Selenity, they were eye to eye.

Her eyes looked menacing and cold.

In the short time that Jay had come to know Selenity, he had never seen her look at him like that, not even when he was holding her best friend captive.

\"You\'re going down slayer!\" Jay said right before he lunged at her with a force that he never thought he had.

\"I think not.\" Selenity moved out of the way just in time to push Jay to the cold ground.

He let out a loud groan as the air was knocked out of him and he was sure he felt a couple of rips crack.

Jay pushed himself to his feet and pulled the gun that he had concealed in his back pocket and aimed it at the slayer\'s head.

\"Is that all you got slayer, oh and dodge this.\" He said right before he pulled the trigger. Just as Jay suggested Selenity dodged the bullet and she brought Jay to the ground for the second time, by sweeping her outstretched leg around his ankles and tipping him.

Sitting on his waist Selenity enabled Jay from going anywhere and doing anything.

She pulled the jagged edged knife that she had in her boot and sliced it into Jays left palm, which held the gun he had just fired at her.

He yelped in pain and dropped the gun.

\"Shit Selenity, you could have just asked me to drop the gun, you didn\'t have to hurt me like that.\" He cursed and then looked down at his impaled hand.

Selenity smiled and ripped the knife from Jay\'s hand and got off of him. As soon as she was off his waist Jay took his injured hand and examined it.

\"Oh, and I\'d just like to warn you, never turn your back on the enemy whatever the circumstances.\" With that Jay pulled the stake he had hidden in his sleeve and jammed it under her shoulder blade.

Selenity couldn\'t scream out in pain as the stake had pierced her lung and now the pressure was rearranging her organs. She fell to her knees and tried to breath in fresh air but that only made her condition worse.

\"Ok, guys I think she\'s had enough and the bracelet doesn\'t seem to be working.\" Jay said as if he was talking to somebody. But there was nobody else in the alley except for him and the dying slayer.

The alley and the area around them began to disappear and were now being replaced by the images of the testing lab. Jay shook his head and felt the restraints digging into his wrists and ankles. Turning his head he saw Selenity gasping for air next to him.

\"Hey mad scientist guy, I think Selenity needs some help, I would but I\'m kind of indisposed right now.\" He said gently pulling at his restraints.

Selenity\'s face began to go an iridescent shade of purple. Noel flipped a switch and alarms began to go off everywhere.

In a matter of minutes two paramedics came running into the room. One of the paramedics removed a long shining needle from a cart they had dragged in with them.
\"Where is the wound?\" The other one asked with urgency in his voice.

Jay stuttered out that he had stabbed her through the left lung.

As all this had been going on Jay had still been restrained to the metal table that they would usually use at the vets.

His bare feet began to wriggle around in his restraints, he wanted out and he wanted out now.

\"Hey Noel you have two hands right, GET ME OUT OF THESE THINGS!\" Jay yelled at the now alert doctor. Noel nodded and walked over to Jay. His very old hands began to shake a little as he pushed the key card in to the hand restraints.

A few seconds later Jay was free from his small prison and he was standing next to Selenity as the paramedics worked on her.

Suddenly they readied the needle and with both hands wrapped around the needle he rammed it into the left side of Selenity\'s chest. Jay grimaced as he heard he penetrate her chest plate.

Selenity gasped and sat up with a jerk.

As soon as she saw Jay her eyes turned cold and menacing again.

She jumped of the table with lightning speed and wrapped her hands around Jay\'s throat.

The needle bounced with every move that Selenity made.

She smiled an evil smile and brought her knee up into Jay\'s groin. She let go of his throat and he fell to the ground in a painful heap.

That didn\'t stop Selenity from jumping on top of him and pulling the stake she had from her belt and bringing it down to his heart.

\"STOP!\" Noel\'s voice rang through Jay\'s ears as he waited to be turned into a dust pile that wasn\'t fit to be called a vampire.

The stake was only half an inch from penetrating Jay\'s heart and ending his unlife.

\"Selenity, you don\'t want to do that, you\'re alive and that\'s all that matters.\" Noel said trying to get her to stop her revenge trip.

She sighed and started to get off Jay, but before she did she leaned in and blew in his ear, just to tease him.

\"Kill me next time.\"

She chucked the stake on to Jay\'s chest and walked away, pulling the needle out of her chest.

It clattered to the floor as she stalked from the room.

Jay let out a deep sigh of relief.



Selenity casually walked from her bathroom in her green silk robe to the kitchen.

Angry rock music was blaring from her surround sound system, courtesy of Noel.

Entering the kitchen the looked in the mirror as she danced around the room with a pot in her hand. Putting it on the stove, she poured water from the kettle into it and turned on the element.

Opening the fridge, she quickly stopped and turned around to find Jay staring at her.

\"Never knew you had a side like this.\"

The look of utter astonishment on Selenity\'s face faded to be replaced by a look of menace.

\"I just wanted to apologize for before, I should have never gotten so carried away. It’s just that I am a vampire and killing is what we do best, all I thought of when we fought was getting away. That\'s when a vampire is most dangerous, when he is scared. So, I\'m sorry.\"

He said, his puppy eyes staring into Selenity\'s menacing ones.

\"I\'m sorry too, it was my idea to put you in the Simulator and fight you.\"

She said, combing her hair back with long fingers. Looking back at the stove, she saw what a mess it was, the water had spilled over the edge of the pot and was everywhere.

\"Look what happened now, how did you get out anyway?\"

She asked, but when she turned around, Jay was gone.

\"Huh.\"

Was all she could manage before starting to clean up the mess in her kitchen.
