Chapter Four

Lia and Mike kept meeting each other everyday. It's been a month since the first time they met. They were so much in love. Lia's parents didn't know about their daughter's fiancé and she didn't know how to tell them.

One day, she and Mike were having lunch together at Mike's house.

"Mike?" Lia asked between bites of her sandwich.

"?"

"Would you like to meet my parents?"<

Mike choked at that question, "Sorry?"

"If you don't want to, it's ok. I'll understand."

"I just didn't expect that." He said and took a sip of orange juice. "You know, I'd really like to meet them, but there's something that concerns me."

Lia looked at him, wondering what that would be. "What do you mean?"

"Do they know about me?"

"They tha that you exist in my life. But they don't know that we are engaged, and they don't know that you're a werewolf."

"What if they know about that? What will their reaction be?"

"I don't think that they'll force me to leave you or something. I guess they'll be scared at the beginning, but when they get to know you better, I'm sure they'll like you." She said with a reassuring smile.

"OK. When do I meet them?"

"How about tomorrow?"

"Sounds good. At seven?"

"Yeah. I'll go home now and I'll tell mom that you're coming tomorrow evening for dinner."

"OK honey." He leaned to her and gave her a gentle kiss on her lips.

After finishing lunch, Lia helped Mike clean the table and wash the dishes. Then, she went home.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

She opened the door and saw that there was no one in the living room. "Mom? Dad?" she called, but no one answered. Suddenly, she heard some one running in the corridor upstairs. "Mom is that you?" she went to the stairs to get up, but her mother was already there. Her face was as white as snow.

"Mom what's wrong?" Lia asked, as she saw her mother's frightened face.

"Nothing dear. I need you to go to one of your friends' house." Her mother said in a shaky voice.

"Why mom? What's wrong? Is dad home?" she tried to climb the stairs but her mother blocked her way.

"He is honey. But I don't think this is the right time to see him." She started to guide Lia to the front door.

"But mom, I wanted to tell you…" she couldn't finish as her mom pushed her outside the house.

"Later Lia. You'll tell me later. I'm sorry honey, but your father is feeling sick, and I think it will be better if you stay the night at your friend's. Will you stay at Macy's?"

"No mom. I'll stay with Mike."

Her mother's mouth dropped open. "Do you mean it? But honey, don't you think..?"

"That's what I was going to tell you. He is coming here tot yot you tomorrow evening at seven. I invited him for dinner. But mom, what's wrong with dad anyway? He was fine this morning."

"He's just sick honey. He'll be fine. The… the doctor will be here soon. Now go." Her mother went inside and closed the door firmly behind her.

Lia didn't know what to think. What was wrong with her father? Why didn't her mother want her to stay home? Why did she just kick her out like that without explaining anything? All these questions made Lia start to cry and she ran to her car and headed to Mike's place.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

When she arrived, she was still crying. She ran to the front door and started to knock and rang the bell a few times, but Mike didn't answer. She sat on the stairs in front of the door and put her head in her hands as she kept crying.

After a few minutes, Mike came from one side of the house ad saw Lia sitting there and her head in her hands. He smelt that there was something wrong.

"Lia?" he said and put his hand on her shoulder.

Lia raised her head and when she saw that it was Mike she threw herself into his arms.

"Oh Mike! Thank God you're here!" she started to cry again.

"Lia what's wrong? Honey, please tell me." he slightly pushed her away to look into her eyes. "Say something, please."

"I… went home…and mom…didn't let me… stay!" she said between sobs.

"But why? Did you tell her about me? That's why she did that?" he took her into his arms again and hugged her tightly. "Oh honey, I'm so sorry. If I only knew.."

"No, that's not it. I didn't get the chance to tell her. She said that dad wasn't feeling alright, and that it would be better if I stay at a friend's house. She didn't tell me what was wrong with dad. Oh Mike, I'm scared!"

"Don't be my love. You're with me. Let's go inside first." He helped her to get up and they entered the house. Mike put his arm around her shoulder and helped her walk to the living room. She sat on the couch and Mike lifted her legs up, so she would lie on the couch. He sat on the ground near her and stroke her face gently.

"Now calm down and tell me what exactly happened." He said. Lia told him everything that happened at her house and how her mother was worried and scared about something.

"I just don't know what's wrong with him. She didn't let me help." She said.

"I'm there's a reason. Maybe he was really sick that she didn't want you to see him that "

"But he's my father after all."

"I'm sure they'll tell you everything about it tomorrow. And don't worry. Your dad will be fine."

"I hope so." She said and closed her eyes. She was so tired of crying that she felt sleepy. Mike got up and brought a blanket and put it on her.

"I'll be at the back yard if you need me." He said to her. And she nodded. He kissed her forehead and went back to the back yard to continue his work in the garden.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

Next day, Lia felt nervous. She wanted to call her mother to ask about how her father felt now. But somehow, she couldn't pick up the phone. She didn't want to. She was scared of hearing something that would break her heart.

"Honey, why don't you call them?" Mike asked as he saw that she was staring at the phone.

"I'm scared."

"Of what?"

"I don't know. I'm just scared to call."

"Want me to do that?"

"I don't know."

"OK. I'll call them." Mike dialed the number and waited for the phone to be picked up on the other side.

"Hello?" a woman's voice said.

"Mrs. Jones?"

"Yes, who am I talking to?"

"I'm Mike. Lia's… friend." He was sweating already.

"Oh, hello Mike!" Lia's mother said excitedly. "How are you? Is Lia there with you?"

"I'm fine, thanks. And yes, she's here. She told me that your husband was feeling ill yesterday, and I couldn't convince her to call you, so I called. How is Mr. Jones feeling today?"

"Oh he's fine. I think he was poisoned of food. Maybe he ate something that he shouldn’t have. Tell Lia that we love her. And to forgive me for behaving like that yesterday."

"I will Mrs. Jones."

"Thank you dear. We'll see you two at seven o'clock this evening?"

"Yes."

"OK, we're looking forward to meet you. Take care."

"Ok, bye." Mike hang up the phone and he was blushing already, but he had a wide smile on his face.

"What did she say?" Lia asked anxiously.

"He's fine. She thinks that he was poisoned by some food."

"And that's why she didn't let me stay at home?! No, there's something else. I'm sure of it." she looked at him and raise an eyebrow. "Why are you blushing anyway?"

"Your mom was so nice to me." He said with a smile and came close to her and hugged her, "She also said that they are looking forward to meet me."

"Oh now I get it!" she kissed his cheek. "That's only on the phone. Wait till she sees you. She will love you. I'm sure of it."

"If only she wouldn't know about my other self."

Lia didn't answer. She was lost in her own thoughts. 'He's right, what if they make a huge scandal if they knew he was a werewolf? What will happen then?'

As if Mike could read her mind, he looked into her eyes. "If they disagree about us being together. I'll take you away. We will be together no matter what."

Lia smiled. Although, that wasn’t something she wanted to happen. She lover her parents and didn't want to lose them. But she also loved Mike. The one who she was going to live with for the rest of her life. "I just hope everything goes by the we want to." She said.
