Final Performance
Anna took pride in the looks of fear that hn Jan Jason and Austin’s eyes. The only thing she could do now was explain.
“You want an explanation?” she asked referring to the question asked earlier. “Or are you just going to tune out like everyone else?”
“Well it depends on if you let us live.” Jason said half heartedly. He really thought she was insane enough to kill them.
“You thought…” again she trailed off and looked up at the sky. She sighed. “It’s always about someone who isn’t me.” She said more to herself than to the guys.
“What’s with the knife if your not going to kill us?” Austin asked relaxing a little. Put of the corner of his eye he saw Jason relax too.
“You don’t understand why I’m here then?” her pitiful tone made them wonder. When Anna looked up she was angry and she was also on the verge of tears. She took the knife and slashed the back of her wrist. She spoke in a deathly calm voice that made the moon and stars shiver in the night. “Why me? I\'m not a kid. You two might think I am, but I am not by any means a child. I always thought I was mature. But it\'s not good enough for either of you. I don\'t know any more. I can no longer be me even when it’s just me. I’m pulled in so many directions I feel as if I\'m spinning in circles. It\'s almost like I have lost the me that I once was.” She stopped and watched the blood spill over her wrist and sighed. Jason and Austin made no move to comfort her. They watched and prayed. They thought she was done.
She looked up again and smiled her perfect ‘nothing to worry about here’ smile and spoke again “Then he came along.” She pointed at Austin and looked Jason in the eye “Just another guy. He came along and I felt like … God I don’t even know! I promised not to like anyone this year. Then I do and it hurts. It hurts so damn bad that I could cry, but I never do. You don\'t see me when I cry. No one does, but then again no one can see the real me. Not even me.” Anna was sobbing now. Her tears were not from the gash on her wrist, but from holding in the hurt so long that she forgot what it was like to cry.
Jason made the only move he could think of. He got up and grabbed the knife and threw it as far as he could. To his surprise Anna made no move to stop him. He hugged her. She didn’t even hug him back but he hugged her.
Austin just stared. He grabbed Jason by the collar of his jacket and pulled him away from the psycho who haoughought them here. “Are you insane she threatened us with a knife?!?” Austin was ready to leave.
“She’s suicidal, I was just trying to help.” Jason said detaching himself from Austin’s grip.
“Fine.” Austin replied and walked to Anna. “Get some sleep and we’ll see you Monday.” Was all he said.
“One more thing.” She said to their backs. They turned and saw her coming to them. She stood right in front of Austin and stood on her toes to kiss him. He was so shocked he didn’t move away from the person he wanted to get miles away from in a hurry.
“She’s a good kisser.” He thought.
Anna stepped back, realizing what she had no guts to do but had just done. She hugged Jason one more time and stepped away from them.
“Goodbye.” She said to the stars, the moon, and her two witnesses. She pulled out her last resort and smiled at them one last time.
“Only one bullet in the chamber.” she said spinning the chambers, stopping and firing once into her own heart.
Jason only looked at Austin. “She’s just gave her final performance.” He said, pulling out his phone toorm orm local police.
