style='mso-tab-count:1'>         Gabriel sat back in the couch and
looked down to the floor. He was about to hit himself physically this time when
he noticed something shining on the spot Rachel had been on. He got up and went
to check what it was and found blood. A careful look further showed that there
was a path of blood leading to Rachel’s room. He wouldn’t dare enter it again
under different circumstances but her wound was clearly open and bleeding
again. Mastering all the courage he could find he walked into the room and
found Rachel sitting in her bed using a towel to try and stop the hemorrhage.
He approached her carefully and took hold of the towel. The wound had in fact
reopened and he figured she needed stitches.

“We are going to
have to close this. Were can I find a needle and some thread?” he asked placing
the towel back against her leg.

style='mso-spacerun:yes'> She pointed out where the things were and he
practically ran to get them. He soaked the needle in alcohol and the thread got
the same treatment. He also grabbed some painkillers and returned to the
bedroom. Without a word he gave Rachel the medicine and waited for a few
minutes. Then he removed the towel from her again and started stitching. She
flinched a bit but stopped quickly, which left Gabriel with the feeling that
she was going to play tough. Without bothering he kept going.

“You know, when
I was born my dad bought a puppy. It was dark brown and had blue eyes. We grew
up together, played games together, even slept together. He was my best friend.
3 months after my 10th birthday he was hit by a car and they had to
put him to sleep. I didn’t understand very well what that meant but soon after
that I realized I wasn’t going to see him ever again. My parents noticed I was
getting really sad so they sent me to spend some time at my grandmother because
she had 6 dogs. They figured I would get over my dog. It worked. I spent 5
weeks with my grandmother and her dogs. When I became
convinced that life moves on my grandmother called my parents so they would
pick me up.
I had my stuff packed and I was ready to go back home. They
were supposed to arrive at around 4 pm so we could all have a snack together.
When the old clock stroke 9 pm the phone rang. A few minutes later my
grandmother’s servant girl was unpacking my stuff and I was hearing a story
about how my parents missed my dog so much they went to join him in his sleep.
A likely story expect now I already knew exactly what that meant. I was never
going to see my parents again. I cried all night. Two weeks later my
16-year-old sister joined us. 2 years after that she left with the 650 dollars
she had inherited and I haven’t heard from her since. 6 years later I left my
grandmother’s house with my parents fortune in the
bank and my whole life ahead of me. And now here I am, 26 years old, currently
suspended for negligence in my work and stitching the wound of a woman who
kidnapped me. Isn’t life grand?”

style='mso-spacerun:yes'> When he finished his speech he gave a knot to
the thread and cut the rest with his teeth. Rachel was staring at him with
unshed tears and didn’t seem to notice he was done.

“You found my
life story touching?” he asked softly.

“Anyone with a
heart would. I know how hard it is to lose a relative.” She said sadly.

style='mso-spacerun:yes'> He was going to comment on that but he noticed
she was sweating hard and her face was red. Her breathing was becoming shallow
and it was almost like she was about to faint. Placing his hand on her forehead
he found she was burning up in a fever. He ran back to where the class=GramE>medicine were and searched for something for the fever. When
he found it he ran back and made her take it. A few minutes later she was
sleeping serenely. Not wanting to leave her alone he laid down next her and
soon he too was sleeping.
