Chapter Thirty-Eight:

Rei was sitting on a bench in the park crying. His feet were freezing cold and so was his whole body, but he ignored the cold in favor of crying his eyes out, thinking about Naoya not needing him anymore now that he was back with his ex-wife.

“Rei!”

Rei looked up and saw Naoya. Without thinking, he got up and ran to him. His arms went around Naoya, hugging him tight as his mouth murmured, “Don't leave me.”

“I'm not going to leave you Rei,” Naoya said as he held the freezing boy in his arms. He was relieved to find Rei not in danger like he was led to believe by his granddad.

“But you’re getting back together with your ex-wife.”

“What are you talking about Rei? I'll never get back together with her.” Naoya scooped Rei into his arms and carried him back to the bench.

“But you went to see her,” Rei said as Naoya put him down on the bench.

“I went to see her for another reason Rei, not to get back together with her.”  Naoya took off his jacket and put it on Rei. He zipped it up and smiled gently at Rei.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Rei smiled, overjoyed that he had not lost Naoya after all. He leaned forward and kissed Naoya and when Naoya kissed him back, his heart and body were filled with happiness because Naoya kissed him so passionately.

Naoya ended their kiss. “We can continue this after we get you someplace nice and warm,” he promised. He then swept Rei up and carried him to his car. Naoya drove them to the nearest hotel where he booked them a room for the night.

He put Rei in bed and pulled the blanket over him then he called room service. Rei was curled up in bed, nice and warm when room service arrived. Naoya thanked them and shut the door. He sat down beside Rei and pick up the bowl of chicken soup and blew it gently to cool it down. Then he fed it to Rei who was more than happy to let Naoya pamper him.

After feeding Rei, Naoya got into bed with him. Rei slid over and snuggled close to Naoya, wearing a content smile on his face. This was like heaven for him to be this close to Naoya in bed. Back at the house, even though they shared a room, he and Naoya always slept separately, Naoya on the futon and Rei on the bed. This closeness was something he wanted to treasure forever.

“Rei, remember when I asked you what you wanted for your birthday?” Naoya said softly as he played with Rei’s hair.

“Yes,” Rei answered looking up at Naoya.

“Did you mean it when you said you want me?”

“Yes,” Rei answered again.

“Rei, I am older than you. I'm even older than Hiro and your dad, plus I have a son as big as you as well.”

“It doesn't matter, I don't care that you’re older or that you have a son as big as me,” Rei said right away. “All I know is that I love you Naoya and I want to be with you forever.”

“Forever is a long time.”

“I know.”

Naoya smiled, then he gently caressed Rei’s cheek. He hoped to God that what he was about to do was the right thing, and that the boy would not regret it, because he was through lying to himself about not wanting the boy. In fact back at the house, he had really wanted him badly every night after that kiss they shared. No matter how hard he tried to ignore his feelings for Rei, he couldn't. The boy always managed to sneak right back into his thoughts.

“Naoya,” Rei uttered when he saw Naoya’s mouth slowly moving closer, until their mouths almost touched.

“Rei,” Naoya whispered tenderly. “Open your mouth for me Rei,” and Rei did just that.

-------

“Makoto!” Christopher shouted, stopping Makoto who turned and sighed.

Damn it he almost made it, Makoto thought as Christopher got closer to him.

“What do you want?” Makoto grunted.

“Why are you running Makoto?”

“That’s a stupid question. I'm running from you.”

“Why?”

“Because I don't like you.”

“We can fix that. I'll make you like me in no time.”

“Very arrogant of you to say that,” Makoto snorted.

“Makoto, don't make me kidnap you and lock you up.”

“Like I would let that happen.”

Christopher, tired of arguing with Makoto, swiftly picked him up and threw him over his shoulder.

“What the hell are you doing? Put me down asshole!”

“I wanted to court you properly, but now I have decided to take the shortcut.”

“Shortcut ?” It took him a moment to realize what that meant. Makoto quickly struggled. “Hell no asshole! Bastard put me down. I refuse, I'll kill you...!” Makoto yelled as Christopher carried him away.

---------------

Early the next morning, Naru got up and showered. Then he dressed in a set of warm but comfy clothes. He brushed his hair and and rubbed his tummy with a smile. “Boss I'm going to check up on my dad,” he said, and before Ryuu could wake up enough to give him a reply, he had already left.

Hiro slowly opened his eyes. It took him a while to remember what happened, and when he did, he wondered why he was still alive. He rolled his head to the side and saw Luka asleep on a chair, holding his hand. He reached forward and brushed Luka’s bangs to the side. His action woke Luka up from his slumber.

“Hiro!” Luka said with a wide smile. Happiness filled his heart to see Hiro’s eyes open and gazing at him, smiling at him with those lips that tasted so sweet. He brought Hiro’s hand to his lips. He kissed it tenderly then brought it to his cheek. “I thought I had lost you forever Hiro.”

“I'm sorry Luka for frightening you like that,” Hiro apologized. “I couldn't kill her. I knew why she was here and what she was going to do... I should have slain her but---”

“Hiro, you don't have to explain it to me. I understand, and I love you even more.”

“Luka,” Hiro leaned into Luka and embraced him. “I love you too Luka.”

The door opened and Fyran stepped inside with Naru. They both were surprise to see Hiro awake already. “Dad!” Naru exclaimed happily, then he ran over and hugged his dad. “I was told that you would not be up for another three days.”

“I'm glad you’re back Hiro,” Fyran told his son from where he was standing.

Hiro stared at his father. “Father what happened to your right eye?” he asked with concern.

“A demon made a meal out of it,” Fyran joked.

"He was protecting us Dad," said Naru.

“If it wasn't for your father Hiro, Sammy would have been dead and his body possessed by a demon,” Luka added.

"Thank you Father," said Hiro. "Luka, Naru, could you two leave me alone with my father? We need to talk.”

Naru and Luka stood up and left Fyran alone with Hiro.

“Father.” Hiro began.

“Hiro.”

Hiro breathed in and then out. “Father, I want to know why you left me.” He cut right to the question that he had been asking himself so many times since the day his father left him in his grandparent’s care.

“I knew you were going to ask that.” Fyran came over and sat down in the chair. “I had no other choice Hiro. It was safer for you to be with them than with me.” Fyran paused to let out a long sigh. Then he continued on. “Do you remember how your mother died Hiro?”

Hiro nodded his head. “I remember there was a man in our house and he was hurting Mom. He had this scary mask on. It looked so real, so frightening that I cried. Then Mom came running towards me. She held me close and then I heard a loud sound. Then everything else went black, and when I came to, you were holding me in your arms Father.”

"That man that you saw, he wasn't a man, he was a demon, and that demon murdered your mother in the most gruesome way one could ever imagine. I swore to find that demon and kill him. I left you with your grandparents knowing that they would raise you well.”

Finally Hiro knew the reason why his father left him. "I understand that you want to find this demon and fucking tear him apart for killing Mom. But why didn't you visit me? You let me go on thinking that you had abandoned me.”

“Because all I could think about was finding that fucking demon and tearing him apart. However, the biggest reason Hiro is because he will come after you. After he killed your mother, he left a little message for me saying, I shall kill all those you love.”

Hiro could just imagine how his father felt when he saw that message. If the same thing were to happen to him, he would have left Naru with his grandparents also. Hiro hugged his father. “I'm so sorry Father, I thought you didn't love me and that was why you left. I forgive you Father.”

“Hiro.”

“So did you find that bastard that killed Mom.”

“No.”

"Why did he kill Mom, Father?” Hiro asked his father.

“Because I was the one who killed his mate.”

“You what?” Hiro almost shouted it out.

“Yup, I killed his mate and he killed your mother in return.”

“Why did you kill his mate in the first place?”

“Because he and his mate were killing little children and feeding off their hearts,” Fyran went on. “They were trying to gain this strange power, and to gain that power they had to eat a thousand children’s hearts,” Fyran explained. “I found his mate and killed him before he could kill another kid,” he finished off.

“Shit! That’s fucking crazy. And you spent sixty five years trying to find this demon alone?”

A knock interrupted them as Fyran gave his son a slight nod. They both turned towards the door and saw Luka.

Fyran got up. “I'll see you tomorrow,” he said and then left, relieved that he didn’t have to go into further detail about the demon he was after.

--------

Naru was in his usual spot eating as he listened to his sister Miku going on and on about naming one of his kids after her, when their grandfather came down the stairs.

“You’re still here?” Fyran of course was referring to Miku.

“Naru said that he will send me to the afterlife,” said Miku.

“I hope you’re not going to be doing it alone Naru. It takes a lot of energy and power to send someone to the afterlife.”

“Great grandfather Falon will be there to help me.”

“I see. He is teaching you?”

Naru nodded his head just as Naoya came walking in with Rei.

“Good morning Uncle Naoya, Rei,” Naru greeted them both.

“Morning Naru,” Naoya greeted in return and Rei did the same.

“Morning to you too Miku.”

“Good morning to you too Uncle Naoya,” said Miku timidly.

Naoya patted her head. “I'm sorry about what happened to you Miku.”

“It’s fine Uncle Naoya. It’s fate, nothing you or I could do to stop it from happening. At least I got another chance at life again.”

“Morning Naoya.” Fyran interrupted the two.

“Morning Uncle Fyran.” Naoya turned his eyes toward his uncle.

“It is good to see you, and congratulations by the way,” Fyran said to Naoya with a knowing smile, then he left.

Naru got up and grinned as he walked to the sink with his empty bowl. “So you two finally did it huh?”

Rei’s face turned completely red and Naru chuckled. “Congratulations you two.” He slapped Rei on the back then went upstairs to wake his husband up.

Rei turned around to face Naoya. “How could they tell that we... you know...”

Naoya laughed, “It’s simple Rei. The look in your eyes said it all.”

“Yes, he’s right, you have that look in your eyes Rei,” Miku giggled.

“Oh... now I feel like an idiot.”

“Don't be,” Naoya said and he kissed Rei gently on the lips.

“That is the sweetest thing I have ever seen,” Faith said from the doorway, grinning at the two of them.

“I have a bone to pick with you Granddad.”

“Shouldn't you be thanking me Naoya? After all, if it wasn't for me you wouldn't be this happy right now.”

“He’s right Naoya.”

“That doesn't mean that he can get away with lying to me. You don't know how worried I was when I thought that you had been kidnapped by demons. I searched for you in my beast form for what seemed like forever.”

“Alright I apologize, and to make it up to you Naoya, I'll talk to the boy’s parents for you and set a date and time for your wedding.” With that said, Faith left the two alone.

Naoya smacked his forehead with the palm of his hand. “Why did I even bother?” he muttered.

“I love your grandfather Naoya, there is no one like him.”

Naoya smiled, “Yeah, there is no one like him. He is the best granddad a man like me could ask for.”

Luka and Hiro came downstairs together. They both greeted Naoya and Rei with a “Good Morning.”  Hiro hugged his daughter Miku.

“ Rei told me this morning about what happened to you Hiro. I'm sorry that I wasn't here.”

“Don't be Naoya, you have your own problems,” Hiro said as he sat down. Luka started making tea for him.

“I'm just glad that you’re still here.” Naoya sat down across from Hiro. “So who tried to kill you Hiro?”

“Ryan,” Luka answered as he made tea. “As soon as Hiro feels better, I'm going to kill that bastard.”

“Who is this Ryan?” Naoya asked, looking from Hiro to Luka.”

“Luka’s husband,” Hiro answered Naoya. “And trust me, you don't want to know him,” he added. “And “Luka,” Hiro’s eyes went to Luka. “The only one allowed to kill Ryan is me.”

“Miku, why are you crying?” Hiro asked when he noticed his daughter’s tears. He reached across the table and held her hand.

“I'm just so happy that you’re okay Dad. I'm so sorry that I hurt you.”

“Sweetie, it wasn’t your fault. Stop blaming yourself.”

Miku nodded her head and gave her dad a small smile before she got up. “I'm going to be at the shrine with Risa. Can you let Naru and Grandfather know?”

“I sure can sweetie.” Then Miku left.

“Luka?”

“Yes Hiro,” said Luka as he gave Hiro his tea.

“Why don't we give Ryan a surprise visit?” Hiro said with a scary smile as he looked forward to his revenge.

Faith came walking in with a phone in his hand. “Hiro, Luka. You need to pick up Sammy. Something awful happened at work.”

Twenty minutes later, Hiro stopped his car in front of the station. Both Luka and Hiro got out of the car and ran to Sammy. They hugged him tight. “It’s going to be alright Sammy.”

“He is still in shock,” said a policeman. “I don't blame him one bit. It’s a fucking massacre in there. The whole damn department was slaughtered. Sammy you were lucky to have come in late.” the policeman added, then he went back to doing his job.

Sammy sat in the back of his father’s car, staring into empty space as Hiro drove them home. “Dad,” he looked up at Hiro. “Could you drop me off at my friend’s place?”

“Are you sure Sammy?” Hiro asked his stepson.

“Yes.”

“Alright. Tell me where he lives.”

Sammy gave his stepdad the direction to his friend’s apartment then shut his eyes.

Ten minutes later Hiro dropped Sammy off at his friend’s apartment and told him to call him if he needed anything. Then he drove off to pay Ryan a visit, one he fucking looked forward to. “Payback time!” Hiro smirked.

Hiro slammed the car door shut and turned to Luka. “Do you buy all your husbands a big mansion Luka?”

“No,” replied Luka.

“Good, because if you buy me a mansion, I'll murder you. You got that?”

“Got it,” said Luka.

“Help! Help!” A scream for help came from inside the mansion. “What the fuck!” said Hiro. Someone beat him to Ryan. Hiro ran towards the mansion with Luka right behind him. He kicked the huge door open to see Ryan on the floor with his attacker standing over him, ready to finish him off.

“Help me Luka! He’s going to kill me.” Ryan pleaded for his husband to help him.

"Now why should I do that Ryan? When I came here to do exactly the same thing.”

“No, you don’t mean that Luka. You love me. Help me Luka, don't let him kill me!”

“If he didn’t kill you, I would,” Hiro said, stepping in front of Luka.

Ryan eyes widened at the sight of Hiro alive and standing before him. “You! You are supposed to be dead!” Then he looked up at his attacker. “Is this why?”

Arawan smirked coldly down at Ryan then looked up at Hiro.

“You look just like the day I first met you Hiro,” he said, then he thrust his sword down and finished Ryan off.

Hiro and Luka felt nothing when Ryan died in front of them. The guy had it coming, they both thought. Luka leaned towards Hiro. “Hiro, who is he?” he whispered.

“He is the one that is after Naru.” Hiro stared at Arawan. “I'm going to kill you for killing my prey,” Hiro’s demon sword appeared in his hand. Althought he had just recovered, Hiro had lots of energy running through him and he was more than ready to do a bit of demon killing. “Today I am going to have my fucking revenge Arawan.”

“Prince Charming, do call me Prince Charming,” Arawan said with a menacing smile.

“Like I give a fuck,” Hiro said and then he attacked. Luka joined him.

----------------

“So why does this guy, this demon Arawan want me?” Naru asked his grandfather Falon as they made their way to the main house. He had just sent his sister Miku along with Risa to be reincarnated. It saddened him that the next time when he saw her she would be another person with a different name. But there was nothing he could do about it other than to wish the two happiness in their next lives.

“Because you remind him of Athan,” said Falon.

"Who’s Athan?” asked Naru.

“Athan is my oldest son.”

“My dad’s uncle?”

“Yes Naru.”

“What was his relationship with Arawan?”

“Athan was Arawan’s lover. Arawan loved him to the point of obsession. He killed everyone that Athan was close to, isolating him from everyone but himself. He kept on killing and killing, afraid that one day someone would take Athan away from him. Arawan was turning into a demon and Athan knew it. He tried all that he could to reassure Arawan that he would always be by his side, but the more he tried to reassure Arawan, the more Arawan didn't believe him. Athan, seeing what he had done to Arawan, made the most difficult decision Naru.

“What was it that he decided to do?”

“Kill Arawan. Athan didn't want more innocent people to die because of him, so he made up his mind to kill Arawan. But..”

“But he couldn't,” Naru finished off for his grandfather Falon.

Falon nodded his head. “Athan couldn't bring himself to kill the man he loved. So he did the only other thing that he thought would stop Arwan.”

Their conversation was interrupted when Naru’s cell phone rang at that very moment. “Hello,” he answered.

“Naru, your dad and I need you and Ryuu.”

Naru could hear the sound of swords clashing against each other from the other end of the line.

“Where are you guys?” he asked frantically as he ran into the house and up the stairs. Luka quickly gave Naru the directions to Ryan’s mansion. “Alright, we will be there real soon.”

“BOSS!" Naru yelled as he flung his bedroom door open.

“Naru!” Ryuu said as he came walking out of the bathroom with only a towel wrapped around his waist.”

“My parents are in trouble. Come on, we need to get to them now!”

Ryuu hearing this, quickly put on his pants and shirt and then followed Naru out the door.

----------

Hiro wiped the blood off his lips. “You’re pretty strong for a demon Arawan, but not strong enough.” Hiro rushed forward, swinging his sword and it met with Arawan’s dark sword. Arawan smirked and took Hiro by surprise with his next move. Hiro jumped back, but not before Arawan managed to slash his right arm with his dark sword.

“Fuck that hurt!” Hiro spat out. Luka came forward and helped him to his feet. “I called Naru. He and his boss are on their way.”

Arawan stared at the two before him. He brought the sword to his mouth and his tongue slid out to lick Hiro’s blood from his sword. “With your blood, my power should be back at full forc---” Arawan’s head suddenly filled with images and memories. His head was in pain and it felt like it was about to explode. He went to his knees and let out a loud scream. “AHHH…!”

He was seeing Athan leaving, with that girl crying in his arms, crying out to him. What was she saying? Why couldn’t he hear what she was saying?

“Dad, are you alright?” Naru stormed into the mansion with Ryuu right behind him.

"We’re fine," said Hiro. "But he isn’t." Hiro nodded his head to Arawan.

"Wh-what happened?" Naru asked as they all kept their eyes on Arawan.

“I don't know,” Hiro answered his son. “He licked my blood of his sword and then became like that.”

“Dad, your ring!” Naru saw the ring that Willow gave to his dad glowing brightly. The more it glowed, the more Arawan’s head hurt.

Arawan looked at all of them. “What ever you have done to me won't stop me,” he said. “No one can stop me. For today I'll let you all live. The next time we meet I'll kill you all of you." Arawan transformed into a a crow and flew away.

"That’s just great. We hurried over and what did that bastard do? He fled," Ryuu muttered out loud, hating the fact that he didn't get to kill the bastard Arawan.

“You heard him boss, next time,” said Naru.

“And next time I'm not going to let him get away,” said Hiro.

“Yes Dad, but before that, we have to find out what the hell is with that ring and why he went crazy after tasting your blood,” said Naru.
