Chapter 34
"Faye, sit down." Daniel said sternly. He wasn't happy with what had just happened either, but he wasn't about to go tramping through the house looking for Edward and Stephan. He would be brought back when they were finished with him. Or so he hoped so. If anything happened to him then they would have to deal with Daniel. Even if Savannah was his other half or not.
"He's been gone for half an hour. What could be so important?" Faye said angrily. She sat back down on the bed and crossed her arms under her chest. The four of them had been put in the same room, upon Daniel's strict request. He wanted all of them together until they were sure where they all stood. Better safe than sorry.
"They'll bring him back. Your precious Edward has him. The way you speak about him, he wouldn't harm anything. Even his enemy." Phillip said just as angrily.
"What's that supposed to mean?" She shot back.
"Oh please, you've always had a thing for him, even if you won't come out and say it. Why don't you just get over it. You can never have him, even if you weren't a shifter." Phillip's words cut deep into Faye. He had never spoken so angrily to her before. "You're not the one that has called to him. And you need to get that through your head and soon." Angry tears began to form in Faye's eyes. She did not have to sit here and be treated this way. She stood up and headed for the closed door. Phillip was suddenly behind her. He grabbed her arms and turned her around and shoved her into the door, making sure to avoid smacking her head against it.
"Phillip, let me go, now." Faye told him, her eyes like ice.
"Damn it, Faye, listen to me, alright?" He almost yelled at her. He shook her hard.
"Why do you care what I do? why does it even matter to you?" She yelled back at him.
"Because, I...How could you even ask me that? If I didn't care what happened to you I wouldn't have tried to save you when Stephan threw you out the window."
"But you didn't, did you." Faye watched Phillip's eyes fall, the overwhelming pain that spilled into his eyes. That was the last thing she had ever wanted to do. Phillip let her go so hard that she stumbled. He moved her aside and flung the door open and went into the hallway. Faye ran after him and grabbed his arm and turned him to face her.
"What could possibly matter now?" He asked enraged. Faye did the only thing she could think of, the only thing that would take that look out of his eyes. Faye put her hands one either side of his face and kissed him.
Phillip was stunned. He hadn't expected her to do that. Her lips moved against his and this time he reacted. His hands slid around her waist and pulled Faye against him. It brought a sound from her throat.
Faye had never been so aware of Phillip's body. She had never let herself think of him in this way. They were in a pard. Friends and faimly, never lovers. But maybe, just maybe she had made a mistake about her way of thinking. What if Phillip was what she had been looking for?
Faye slid her arms around his neck and gave herself over to the kiss. She didn't care anymore. A sharp pain erupted in her lower back. She gasped against his mouth. Phillip pulled back. Her blood was on his lips. Blood was pouring in a stream from Faye's mouth.
"Faye!" Phillip said. Her arms fell from around his neck and her knees gave. Phillip was the only thing that kept her standing. His eyes moved past her to the figure standing there. "You...what did...?" Phillips eyes turned dark as he looked at Savannah. Her hand was covered in blood, a smirk on her face.
"You pathetic fool." Savannah said. Her voice sounded different. As if there was more than one person speaking. "You think that you're safe here? You are not even welcome here." Savannah took a step forward.
"Daniel," Phillip whispered, sending out a small burst of power. He knew Daniel wasn't in the room, he could sense that. He just hoped Daniel was near.
In one move, Savannah ripped Faye from his arms, throwing her into the far wall behind them. With her other hand she grabbed Phillip's arm and shoved him into the wall to her left. He smashed into the wall hard, it cracked under his weight.
Savannah was suddenly there, flipping him over onto his back. She straddled him and wrapped her hands around his neck and began to squeeze.
Phillip grabbed her wrists and tried to pry her fingers away from him. It wasn't working. Her eyes turned black above him.
She screamed. Her body slid down his. Faye had one clawed hand buried in her leg and pulled her from Phillip. Savannah twisted her body and punched Faye in the stomach. She fell to the ground clutching at her ribs.
A hand gripped her shoulder and turned her around. Daniel was staring back at her. Fear clouded her eyes. He grabbed her arms and lifted her feet off the ground.
"Get out of her." Daniel said. Savannah laughed with the doubled voice.
"You have no idea what is hapening here!" her laughted continued. Daniel shook her hard.
"Get out!" he screamed. Power cracked in the air, an audible sound. Savannah's body went limp in his hands. He turned her in his arms so that he was holding her in his arms. Phillip was cradling Faye on the floor.
"Is she going to be okay?" Phillip asked.
"I think so. get Faye, we're going to see Maurice." Daniel told him. Phillip didn't question. He picked Faye up and they made their way out of the hallway.
It was hard for Maurice to be in the living room. But despite his son's death, life had to move on. They couldn't stop to mourn properly just yet, something was happening in his house, within his realm of power and he needed to knoww hat was going on fast.
Stephan was sitting on the couch with Kairi next to him. She was wrapped up in a blanket with Stephan's arm around her shoulders. Edward was sitting across from them in a chair. Maurice was in a different chair to Kairi's left.
Edward and Stephan couldn't keep their eyes off of her. It wasn't like they were trying to stare at her, they just couldn't help it. She was glowing. It was an almost hypnotic sight.
"What do you see?" Maurice said. Both Edward and Stephan jumped. Kairi just looked from one of them to the other. What had gotten into them.
"What did you say, Maurice?" Edward asked, turning to look at him resistantly.
"When you look at Kairi, what do the two of you see?" He asked again. The two of them turned their eyes back to Kairi. She was a little confused and nervous. Was there something wrong with the way she looked?
"Light. She's so full of light." Stephan said a little breathlessly. She was beautiful before, but the light under her skin amplified that by a million.
"It's a white light." Edward said, really looking at her this time. "I never noticed it before."
"Neither did I, not until she came down to the coffin room to check on you." Maurice said.
"I'm glowing?" Kairi said. She looked down at herself. She wasn't glowing. There was no light playing underneath her skin making her look like a candle. "I don't see anything." She told them.
"It isn't something that you would be able to see. Powerful beings give off a glow that lets you know there is power in them. And the more they glow, the more powerful they are." Maurice explained.
"But you don't glow. None of you do." Kairi said. She wrapped the blanket tighter around her. She was freezing but it wasn't the kind of cold that could be fixed with blankets. She was cold on the inside.
"That's because we're shielding. Depending on who you're around, you don't want strange people to know exactly how powerful you are at first. It could save your life." Maurice told her.
"Could I see? If you didn't mind?" Kairi asked timidly. She wasn't sure if she was stepping over her bounds or not. Maurice nodded his head and Stephan was suddenly glowing next to her. It was bright enough that at first she had to put a hand up in front of her eyes so that they could adjust. Even if she hadn't been this weak, it still would have hurt.
His skin was a light brown, so that's what color his glow was. A brown glow, but what made it more amazing was his hair. His hair alone was amazing, a deep purple, but it was more vibrant, more alive looking when it glowed. His eyes glowed a bright green. All the colors were so perfect on him.
Kairi reached out with her hand and held her fingertips mere inches from his face. Stephan leaned foward so that they were touching. Her eyes remained transfixed on his face. Where her fingers touched, the glow lessened, in a way. Around her fingertips, his skin went white. Her brows furrowed.
"That's your power mingling with his." Edward told her, seeing the question in her eyes. Kairi nodded absently at his words. Stephan took her hand and pressed it against his face. A warmth spread where her hand touched his face. It was the most wonderful feeling that she had ever felt. It brought a smile to her lips.
"Look," Stephan said, nodding his head towards Edward. Kairi turned away slowly to look at the other man. As soon as her eyes fell on him, he lit up.
He glowed a bright white, whiter than his own skin color. His hair was a blondish red mix, it was stunning. His eyes were a bright blue. It was magnificant to see. But what got her was when Maurice let his shields down.
It caught her off guard. Not only could she see his glow, but she could feel his power fill the room like a giant wave. She didn't even have time to catch her breath before she was drowning in power. And he wasn't just glowing, it looked like he was the light. The light shone out of his skin in piercing white light. His eyes glowed a dark green, like emeralds. His dark hair was like the darkest waters of the night. The sight of him actually brought tears to her eyes.
Maurice stood and Kairi mimicked him. She didn't remember standing up, only that she was now standing and had taken a few steps towards him. Maurice had moved towards her as well. Each movement that he took, she took. What was she doing?
She could feel Stephan and Edward stand before Maurice's eyes turned dark. They went from a shining green to nothing but green. No white, no black, all green. Kairi took a step back. She was not going to let him touch her, not if he was going to do what he had done last night. She was not in the mood and didn't feel the slightest amount better to be trying anything magical right now.
"Something's wrong." Stephan said. He could feel Daniel approaching like a storm. He was not happy. Daniel kicked the doors to the living room open and entered the room with Phillip and Faye right behind them. Kairi, Stephan and Edward turne as they walked in.
"What's happened?" Maurice asked moving through the group to Daniel.
"Something took over Savannah, she attacked Phillip and Faye." Daniel told him. He moved around Stephan and laid Savannah down on the couch. "Why are all of you so bright?" He asked. At once the three men put up their shields, blocking their light. It made Kairi's chest ache. To see such beauty hidden away. But she understood why they needed to hide their light.
Maurice knelt down next to Savannah and took her hand in his. "She will be alright. Her body is in shock but she will recover. It is not an easy task to take over a vampire as strong as Savannah is. It will take her some time to be herself again. I am just surprised that you did not notice the change in her." He said to Daniel.
"As am I. Who ever did this had to know what she was to me now and would have had to compensate for that. I never once felt a difference in her ties to me. But then I've never been bonded to anyone before, I am not sure what a normal connection is supposed to feel like with her." Maurice nodded his head. He understood. Someone power, or someone with alot of help had done something to harm his daughter, to harm the guests in his home. His patience was running out for someone trying to kill his family.
"What's wrong with Faye?" Maurice asked looking over at Phillip.
"Savannah, or who ever it was, punched a hole through her back and tried to snap her spine. I'm not sure why she didn't succeed in it. She's more than strong enough. Her body is healing, she just needs to sleep to get her strength back." He told him. Maurice nodded. He laid Savannah's hand at her side and came to his feet.
"Alright, it is time that we get everyone together and discuss what is happening. Edward, wake your vampires. Daniel, the shifters. I will take care of my vampires in this house. Meet back here in ten minutes." Kairi and Stephan sat down in chairs around the table. Daniel and Edward headed out to leave the room. Edward made it as far as the doorway and he just stopped.
"Edward?" Kairi said cautiously. "What is it?" He turned slowly back towards the others.
"They're back." He said. Maurice's eyes went wide. He knew who Edward was talking about.
