life or death

A few minutes later he landed straight in front of the cave, leaving a mini crater from the impact and massive cracks in the rock face. He died instantly and blood was forming a pool underneath him.

Brina screamed, watching him fall at her feet. She knelt beside him, body shaking from her tears. "No, NO!" She gripped him, paying no mind to the blood, her heart was broken. She didn’t even notice the dragon return to ground. It approached, opened its jaws to devour Brina. Brina looked up at it, tear streaming. "GO AHEAD EAT ME. HE'S DEAD AND I WANT TO BE DEAD TOO!" The dragon gave her an odd look and closed its mouth. It studied her a moment.
She grabbed hold of Christian and laid her head on his now silent chest. "You didn’t have to kill him. We've done nothing wrong. The wizard placed me in that cave. I wasn’t there on purpose and he only came for me. The wizard he did it all." Her body felt numb.

"The wizard? He placed you in the cave? " The rough voice startled her and she looked back up at the dragon.

"You can speak? "

It snorted. "Of course. We are intelligent creatures. More so then you humans."

"Oh. I'm sorry I've never met a dragon. But yes the wizard kidnapped me knowing he would follow."

"Well, I am sorry but you see I had to kill him or I would not get back my eggs."

Brina stood on shaky legs. "What eggs? " "The ones he took from me and told me
I kill him and I get them back."

"But you can't trust him. He won’t give them back. More than likely he will kill you and keep them. They can be used for power and strength. Please, I know there are no more pure magic then that of a dragon. Bring him back and we will get your eggs. He has to kill him, so he can break the curse on him turning him from man to beast. Please." The dragon sat and considered what had been said

"You swear to make my eggs safe and destroy that evil man."

"Yes with my own blood." Brina stood there tears drying on her face a spark of hope in her heart.

"Very well I will bring him back but cross me and I will take both of your lives."

Brina could only nod.

The dragon stretched out her neck and touch Christian. The power of magic made every hair on Brina body stand up, a bright flash and the dragon moved away. Brina fell down beside him.

"Christian? "

Slowly a soft breath was taken from the once dead body, his body changed back to its human form and another much deeper breath was taken. Slowly he opened his eyes and looked at the blue sky.

She cupped his face and looked down at him. "Christian? "
The clear sky view was enlightened by her face. He smiled at her, he tried o speak but he was still too weak.

She smiled. "Don’t try to talk you need time to recover. I'm alright." She ran a hand over him reassuring herself that he was alright.

He closed his eyes slowly and opened them again, his irises was different. The usually color was now blended with red flames.

She looked at the dragon. "His eyes are different." She turned her massive head and looked at her.

"He's been 'dragon kissed' you could say. Some of me now reside in him."

Brina looked back at him. "Do you think you can sit up? " She pulled a water bag from her back.

He sat up the best he could. His head felt like it would split in half, something was building up from inside.

She helped him up and moved behind him so he could lean back on her. "Here drink some." She nuzzled his neck. "I am so glad your back."

He tried to drink some water, but he quickly coughs it up again, after the second cough he sprayed a liquid on the ground from his mouth.

She patted him on the back. "Careful. Okay just rest then. Your body is adjusting still."

He drew a deep breath and coughed again, more liquid came out. But as the liquid made contact with the liquid from before, it spontaneously caught on fire.

She yelped at the flames. "What happened? "

The dragon moved a bit. "I told you he has some of my abilities. It happens."

Brina stared at her. "But fire? "

The dragon only shrugged.

He looked at the beast and quickly got to his feet, pulling her behind him. But he couldn’t stop coughing. Then out of reflex, he opened his mouth and washed a sea of fire at the dragon.

"CHRISTIAN NO!" She pulled on his arm. "She's a friend, she brought you back. Stop."

The dragon only leapt into the air and took flight. Dragon fire did not affect another dragon. She lazily circled.
He looked at her, smoke came out of his nose and the side of his mouth. “What? ” he asked in a very week voice.

She waved the smoke away. "She brought you back. You died. She is being used by the wizard. I told her what had happened. In exchange for the safety of her eggs she brought you back to fight and kill the wizard."

“Is that true? ” he looked up at the noble creature, still holding her behind him.

"It is. He stole my eggs and is holding them captive until I return with your body to prove I have done my part." She circled then landed again not far from them with a loud thump.

He lowered his head slightly; he then went down on his knees to beg for forgiveness. As much as he hated the bad creatures, he loved the good ones.

The dragon blinked at him. "No need for that. We all have been fooled and mislead. I would have done the same in your position. Rest here. The night comes and I will hunt." she then jumped into the air once again.

He stood up and watched as the noble creature took off.

"Can you make it to inside? I will gather some wood for the night."

“Yeah”, he started to walk inside, but took a last look at the creature before she was out of sight.
"Strange isn't it? Having a dragon as a friend."

“Yeah, I have only heard stories about their wisdom. Some say they are eternal, even in death they remain” he walked slowly inside and practically let his body drop to the ground by the wall. He was still very weak.

She watched to make sure he made it inside then turned and hurried to gather wood. She returned a short time later arms loaded with wood, tossed it to the ground and bushed herself off.
