The Prince
The Prince
“I can not believe you are sending me away to boarding school,” the beautiful boy snapped at his mother, turning to Melody with harsh golden eyes. He matched his mother in almost every way except he had more height on her and luckily he had gained a masculine face, though his body was soft and he would never have the muscle women coveted. Did this matter, no, for he was a prince and women looked passed soft muscle for a piece of the handsome prince and his world.
“Do not act as if this is a punishment,” Melody declared, straightening his cloak for the third time. She could not keep her hands from fluttering about. “This is something that not many are accepted into. This school will make you so great at not only knowledge, but magics. You will surpass the Enchanter.”
“And does Father know you are sending me away,” he asked degradingly. Melody shushed him quickly and looked about the room.
“The Enchanter and the king both know you are being sent away,” Melody told him. Despite the enchantment the Enchanter had placed on her in the maze Melody had known what had happened shortly after her son’s birth, especially when he was born with a deformity only someone of the sluagh would have. When she questioned him he had allowed her to remember, and ever since she had been the toy to both the Enchanter and the king. She had been complacent for she wished for nothing but the best from her son.
“But to go to this school I must enter their kingdom,” the prince, Henry, spat. “Are we not debating war with kingdoms ruled by lesser creatures than humans?”
“There are many who find humans to be the lesser creatures,” Melody corrected him. “Beside, you are part one of those creatures you want to destroy.”
“Thank you for the reminder,” Henry sneered, pulling away from his mothers twittering hands and stepping towards the door. “Don’t you have something else to be doing, like being fucked by one of your lovers?” Melody was only glad he did not know that his father was also his grandfather. She feared the words that would come from him then. How could such a beautiful prince have such a horrid mouth, foulness dripping from it at every turn?
“Please Henry, do not make today such a horrible day, I am not sending you away because I do not love you,” Melody reassured him.
“Well, I do not love you,” and he slammed out of his room to go to his awaiting carriage. Melody sat upon his bed and dropped her head to her hands. She deserved this, for all the years she thought she was better than everyone else, she deserved this.
But it still hurt to know that the only son she would ever bear, for the doctors told her shortly after they were surprised she had even conceived him for she was barren, hated her. He hated her beyond reasoning and she could not even figure out why, except as punishment.
Or else it had been Dralnu’s plan all along.
And for the zillionth time in almost eighteen years she cursed the bastard who had put her in that maze as she cried once again.
