Chapter 32

His eyes scanned the party as he took a sip of his wine. From the side bar beside the pool Vin had the perfect view of the back of the house. Several men and woman approached him, trying to converse with him but his mind wasn’t on them. He was focused on one thing and one thing only… Orlando and what was taking him so long.

‘The evening is perfect,’ Vin thought. With the stars twinkling above and the temperature a nice 68 degrees, Vin sighed. The party was going to be a success. Taking another sip, Vin pried his eyes off the back door and scanned the party that surrounded him. The elite of what Detroit had to offer was here and it seemed like they were having a good time. ‘As they should be,’ Vin thought, he spared no expense.

His eyes narrowed as they fell upon his very soon to be drunken wife. He watched as she drank one glass after another. She was becoming a problem and he really had no ideal what he was going to do with her. Maybe he should get rid of her.

Shaking his head Vin continued with his survey of the crowd. His eyes fell upon the mayor, and he smirked. The man was a pompous ass, but none the less a very powerful pompous ass.

Vin’s thoughts were interrupted as Colin came and stood in front of him. “Sir, he’s ready and waiting for you.”

With a curt nod Vin made his way to the back door. Several people tried to stop him but his mind was only on one thing, Orlando.

As he stepped through the door, his every fantasy that ever ran through his head was standing not five feet away from him. His eyes traveled from the long dark curls that topped the boy’s head to the dark blue Armani suit that fit his body perfectly. ‘Perfect,’ Vin thought, he wouldn’t accept anything less.

**

Brad stood stiffly behind Orlando, his hands balling into fists. He watched as Vin’s lust filled eyes slid up and down on the young boy. This was wrong on so many levels and he couldn’t understand why this man was getting away with this. ‘Could power and money make people turn blind eyes of what was going on?’ His thoughts were interrupted when he heard Vin’s voice addressing Orlando.

“You are so beautiful, my love,” Vin whispered, as he caressed the soft face. Then Vin’s eyes shifted to the man behind Orlando, his eyes hardened. “Make sure you stay with him at all times tonight, Pitt. Do not let him out of your sight.”

Brad blue eyes clashed with ice gray eyes for several seconds. Brad nodded his head in acknowledgement.

Vin’s eyes stared into Brad’s for several more seconds and then shifted back to Orlando’s. “Come love, your party awaits you.” Vin’s hand slid to the small of Orlando’s back, propelling him forward when the boy didn’t seem eager to move.

As the back door was opened for them, Sean grabbed Brad’s arm stopping the man that was entrusted with Orlando’s life.

Brad turned and stared at Sean hard. “Don’t fail us.” Sean’s body was tense like a tiger watching his prey. “If something doesn’t seem right, signal for my help immediately. Don’t hesitate! Do you understand? Don’t hesitate!”

“Is there something I should know?” Brad had the feeling they were holding something back but he couldn’t quite grasp it.

“Your only concern is for Orlando, and keeping him safe. So keep your eyes open and your mouth shut and everything should be okay.”

Brad face hardened at the remark. He wasn’t a boy to be pushed around, not even by the angel of death. Oh he knew what Sean was… everyone knew what Sean was.

Sean smirked at the look Brad was giving him. The man was so easy to read, it was pathetic. If this man wanted to make it in their world, he had to hide his feelings better then what he was doing now.

“Here take this,” Sean thrusted an earpiece and a tiny mic into Brad’s hand. “Make sure this works.”

Brad slipped the earpiece into his ear and clipped the tiny mic onto his collar.

“Now we are…” Sean’s sentence died.

“What in the hell is keeping you two,” Vin’s voice snarled out.

Both men turned to see their very angry boss standing at the door, his hands clenching on the door as if he was going to rip it off at any moment.

“Fuck,” Sean muttered.

Before either could answer Vin’s question, Vin’s voice snarled out. “I don’t know what the fuck is going on between you two but you better get is straight because if this interferes with Orlando’s safety, you both will pay dearly.”

At that Vin turned and slammed the door behind him. They could hear Orlando murmer something and then Vin’s hush voice.

“Fuck,” both men seemed to say at the same time. Nothing else was said between them.

Brad headed toward the slammed door and opened it, leaving a very pissed off Sean in his wake. Somehow Brad knew Sean was not pissed at him but at Vin and Brad had to admit the hit man was right on one account. He needed to get his emotions under control. Especially if he wanted to stay here and make the money his family deserved.

Brad heard clapping as he stepped out onto the patio. He spotted Orlando several feet away. Everyone was turned toward the birthday boy and applauding.

As he walked up, Orlando was being introduced to several gentlemen from Vin’s country club. Orlando politely shook their hands but stayed close to Vin. He could see the finely dressed men look Orlando up and down, lust filling their eyes. Shifting until he was standing directly behind Orlando, Brad’s cold eyes meeting them squarely.

The men caught the hint the boy’s bodyguard was giving and backed down. For one; they didn’t want to tangle with this muscular blond giant and second and the most important; they didn’t want to tangle with Vin, for everyone knew how Vin would react if one finger was laid upon Orlando without Vin’s consent.

Brad followed as Vin and Orlando walked several feet more, before they were bombarded with enthusiastic guests. Everyone was eager to meet this mysterious boy.

**

Sean watched as the trio was swallowed up in the crowd. ‘Fuck I hate these situations.’ His hand gripped his side gun until his knuckles turned white. He wanted to run in the crowd and drag Orlando out.

Those blood sucking parasites wanted only the innocent beauty that Orlando held. They cared nothing for the boy, for if they did, they would have noticed the scared look he was giving everyone. Letting go of the gun, Sean reached into his coat pocket and grab his walky talky.

“Colin, Karl… They went in, keep an eye on them,” Sean’s voice muttered as he strained to keep an eye on the dark headed boy that was his love.

“We’re in position,” Colin’s Irish voice answered back. “I’m to the right side of them, about twenty feet away.”

“Karl?” Sean voice becoming impatient, “What’s your position?”

A moment of silence, then Karl’s voice boomed, “Little to the left, directly in front of them.”

“Good,” Sean said relaxing a little. His eyes locating the men, each giving him a slight nod. “By the way Karl, next time answer when I call you, or else.”

He saw Karl smirk at him, and then his voice came across the speaker, “Sorry.”

“Both of you keep your fucking eyes on Orlando, not the guests… got it?” Sean whispered the heated words, his eyes narrowing on one then the other.

Both Colin and Karl knew Sean was not in the mood for slackers tonight. The angel of death has been agitated all afternoon and both wondered what Sean’s motives toward Orlando were. Both had seen on several occasions how Sean had acted toward Orlando and even today getting the boy a puppy. But to even utter these thoughts would mean death in the most slow and painful way. Both men took Sean’s words to heart and kept their eyes trained on the young man.

Sean was satisfied that he got his point across. He liked both men, but he knew sometimes they slacked off, but not tonight. If he so much as sees them looking anywhere but at the group, he would have both their heads.

Unnoticed by the three men watching the trio move around in the crowd, a pair of dark eyes followed their every move. Waiting and hoping for the right moment.
