Chapter 30
Everyone had been waiting. They just hadn't known it couldn't take as long for her to arrive, to actually find this place. But since she had help, it was a little understandable. It had only been two hours since Tyler had sent one of his men to kidnap the woman. Tood had some explaining to do when he came back witht he daughter. But Tyler had found his way thinking acceptable and did not punish him.
Once they heard of her arrival just about everyone headed outside to their pards special area. It was where they held imporant meetings of pack or pard nature. It was a huge clearing about two hundred feet from the house. At the furthest end of the clearing, where the woods begain again, was a giant oak tree. It had died many years ago, but the power of Tyler's people kept the leaves alive. The base of the tree had been cut out, making a sort of seat within the tree. That was where Tyler was sitting. Paige was standing to his right with Elizabeth. Brant and Evan to his left. They were positioned on their knees.
Spreading outward from the trees were logs making a semi-circle. Every one of Tyler's people were sitting there, not moving or speaking. And sitting on the ground at Tyler's feet, her mouth gagged and a chain from her neck to his hand, was Kyleigh.
Randi walked towards Tyler, more a sultry stalk. She held her head high even though she was a nervous wreck on the inside. The only thing she had on was the long sleeve shirt Andrew had been wearing. The least amount of clothes the better. Andrew walked beyind her in just blue jeans.
Miranda made no eye contact with anyone but Tyler. It was to show she had come to speak with only him and was man, or woman, enough to do it. She showed no sign of fear or being nervous. Nothing to make her appear weak. One thing that helped was Andrew envoked the right of protection on her. She could not be harmed. Theoretically.
"Tyler, of the Glacier Mountain Clan, I am honored to be in your presence." Randi said to him with a slight bow of her head. Tyler relaxed in the seat.
"You have coached her well." Tyler said to Andrew. He bowed his head to his master.
"Enough to keep her safe." his eyes flicked to Liz and Brant.
"They can be out in the day. Just not the sun. A nifty little trick, wouldn't you agree, Randi?" Her brow furrowed a moment. He knew her name? She also had no idea what he was talking about.
"It is...something that I have yet to see." Andrew sighed in relief. That was a great response. Tyler studied her. The last time he had seen her she had put a bullet in his head.
"You do know that I will have no mercy on you. You have hurt me and must pay." Paige grew nervous. He wouldn't her, not here. Randi's brows furrowed more.
"I do not know what you mean."
"You do not remember shooting me back in Oregon?" Tyler asked.
"No, I do not." She said calmly.
"Master, she has lost her memory. She knows of nothing but her name. It is no lie." Andrew told him. Tyler cocked his head and looked at her.
"Is this true?"
"Yes." She said.
"No matter. What happened has happened and you must pay if you want any chance to get this girl back." Tyler jerked the chain in his hand, causing Kyleigh to fall against his legs.
"She is under the right of protection by me." Andrew told him, stepping up beside Randi.
"No." Paige whispered horrified. He couldn't be doing this!
"You are not stong enough to envoke that right. To do so causes you to fight her battles." Tyler told him.
"I know that, master."
"You are not doing this." Randi said. "I can fight myself."
"You can't even remember where you're from. How are you supposed to fight?"
"Carefully," She told him.
"Todd, come forward." Tyler called. When he walked to them, Rnadi was suddenly angry. He had taken Kyleigh. "He is to partake in the fight of survival. If you live you can have a better change to get Kyleigh back."
"This is my fight. Stand back." Randi told him.
"I won't let you do this." Andrew said. Randi sighed.
"Fine. I'll make you let me." She turned and punched him in the chest. He flew back and slammed into the ground fifty feet back. She turned to face Todd, but he was gone. Someone tapped her shoulder and as she turned was backhanded and fell to the ground. Randi tasted blood in her mouth. She licked her lips as her eyes and teeth changed. A grin spread on her lips and her eyes held a taunting, dangerous look. For a moment Todd held fear in his eyes. Tyler was so excited that he couldn't sit still.
"Let it begin." he said excitedly. Mirand lunged upward to meet Todd. He grabbed her arms to throw her past him but she grabbed his shoulders and kicked his knees. His legs gave and she rode him to the ground. Tood didn't wait to flip her over, slamming her back into the ground.
His hands began to shift, to grow longer into claws. Randi grabbed his wrist as he began to attack her throat. She struggled to push his hand from her. Tood used his other hand and slammed hers onto the ground and shoved his claws into her throat. Blood poured from her neck, covering his hand. Randi tried to scream around his hand in throat, but all that came out was a strangled gurgle.
"Randi!" Andrew yelled. Kyleigh tried to get away from Tyler, but he held the chain tightly.
Randi's eyes stgarted to glow bright enough that Todd had to close his eyes. Her skin shined a pale white, like moonlight. It was mesmerizing to see even in the day. The essence of power that flowed out of Randi caught everyone off guard. Her power was mixed with another. Her own bathed them all in the warmth of the sun. The wonderful light that gave the world the ability to see. But it was what followed that stung them. The bitter cold of winter. Piercing down to the bone in waves of frozen water. It was cold enough to cause amazing amounts of pain in all that was around her.
"Edward?" Elizabeth whispered starting at Randi on the ground. Why did she feel like him? Randi grabbed Todd's wrist and sat up from the grass. She pulled his hand from her throat as if it were butter. In one movement she shoved him aside and crouched beside him. Rnadi dug her hand into his chest. Todd screamed under her. She did not remove her hand until she had his heart in her fist. It didn't take much effort to pull it out.
Randi walked back towards Tyler and dropped the heart in his lap. Her power was still strong, pulsing out of her in waves. None of them could move. At least none of the shifters. Their bodies couldn't handle the cold. It was something they weren't accustomed to.
Kyleigh pulled the chain from Tyler's hand. He was paralyzed and couldn't hold her back now. She ripped the gag from her mouth and scrambled away from him. Randi snapped the chain around her throat, freeing her for good.
"You, you killed that man." Kyleigh said shocked.
"He wasn't a person anymore. He was an animal. I did what I had to to keep you safe." Randi told her. Kyleigh threw her arms around Randi. "It's alright, I'll get you home." She nodded against Randi's chest.
"Randi," she heard a woman say. She looked and found Elizabeth helping Evan up. "You have to help us get out of here." Liz said.
"You're the only one who can." Brant said, moving towards them.
"I can't. I came to save Kyleigh. I don't even know how to get home." Randi said. "I'm sorry."
"You know Edward, don't you?" Liz asked, trying to say anything to keep her from leaving yet. Randi froze.
"I know of him. He's the only thing my mind can remember. I have to find him."
"I can help you. He is a friend of my family. My father in law will know where to find him."
"Do you mean it? You'll be able to find him?"
"Yes." Liz said. "But you must help us get away from Tyler." Randi ran her hands through her hair, unintentionally getting blood in it.
"How many are there?" She asked.
"At least sixty, maybe more." Evan said.
"Oh, make it easy on me."
"They're all in one spot. If Andrew came with you, you had to have seen them all." Brant told her.
"Andrew found me at Kyleigh's house..." her voice faded and her eyes widened.
"What is it?" Liz asked.
"I first met Andrew in the woods. In a clearing with a stone wall."
"That's the place." Evan told her. Randi shook her head.
"No, he was injured. Many were. But most were dead."
"What?" The three of them said together. They knew that Tyler had sent people out there to destroy the, but they weren't sure how many had lived and died. They were hoping most had been injured and few had died, but it didn't sound that way.
"Dylan. Was there a baby there?" Brant asked.
"He's with Kyleigh's parents. Andrew gave him to me to keep safe." Brant looked physically relieved. Tyler's body twitched in the chair. The paralysis was wearing off.
"We have to go, now." Randi, get Andrew. He and Paige are the only ones here not loyal to him." Evan said. He moved to his sister who stood frozen in place, a blank look covered her features. "Paige," he said. He reached out and gently touched the side of her face. Paige blinked her eyes and her body untensed. She feel forward into Evan.
"Evan? What happened?" she asked looking Randi. Rnadi was bringing Andrew to them, apologizing about hitting him. But she had to fight herself.
"Randi won Kyleigh's freedom and is taking us along for the ride."
"Where's Dylan if Andrew's here?" Paige asked.
"My house." Kyleigh told her.
"And the others?" She asked.
"Dead. Only tend shifters survived. That is all that remains of us." Andrew told her. "They are all protecting Kyleigh's house."
"We need to go, now." Randi said. Tyler was able to move only his head now.
"You'll never get away from me." he said.
"We already have." Randi told him. All of them started to walk away from himj, into the woods. Couldn't take the vamps into the sun.
"You'll never save your family, Randi!"
"I have no family." They kept walking.
"Oh, but you do. That girl is your sister." Everyone stopped and looked at Randi. She turned angry eyes to Andrew.
"You knew and didn't tell me? How could you do that?" She practically screamed.
"Because they don't know you're alive. They think you died in a car crash."
"You're my sister...?" Kyleigh asked. Randi's head swam. Kyleigh was her sister which made Hayden and Robert her parents. She sank to her knees on the ground holding her head. Images, millions of them, flooded across her vision. From the time she was a small girl to everything she had been through in the last week. Her memory unleashed itself in a fury, making her remember, who, and what she was.
"Randi!" a voice in her head screamed. It was a man, the only person she had been able to remember. It was Edward. Randi couldn't move, couldn't think. Her memories took over her body in a control so strong she couldn't recognize anything around her.
"Make it stop!" she screamed, closing her eyes. She would do anything to make it stop, to be able to move.
"Get her up. They're starting to get their movement back!" Evan told them. Andrew grabbed Randi into his arms and Brant scooped up Kyleigh and all of them ran into the dark forest. It was the only way to protect the vampires without them dying.
