After the Storm
After the storm
Mel walked down the hallway towards the kitchen when she heard her cell phone ring. She groaned as she ran back to her room, just as she opened her door, the master bedroom opened and Ellie looked at Mel.
The phone stopped ringing as Mel visibly swallowed hard as she felt awkward standing near Ellie. They had been avoiding each for over a week now.
Ellie smiled as she walked by and ran her hand down Mel's arm as she made it to the kitchen. Mel followed slowly behind. Ellie was rummaging the fridge when she felt Mel standing behind her.
“I can cook something up if your hungry,” Mel offered as Ellie stood up and turned around with a yogurt in hand.
“It's fine, all I want is a snack.” Ellie shook the little cup she had in hand. Mel nodded as she stepped back allowing Ellie to walk out.
Mel followed behind like a lost puppy, Ellie sat at her desk as Mel stood in the doorway, just standing there as Ellie looked at her.
“Can we be a little more civil this time?” Ellie asked as Mel nodded, she avoided Ellie's gaze. She felt guilty for the bruises she left on Ellie's arm. Never before in her life had she ever been that harsh.
Mel sat on the bed and nodded as Ellie pulled the cover off the yogurt and dipped her spoon in.
“do you still want to talk to Alexis?” Ellie started as she licked her spoon clean of the pink substance.
Mel scratched her chin as she gave Ellie a lopsided smile. “I do,”
“Why?”
“Because I don't know I'm curious and I'm not really sure mainly I want to see her.”
“I don't want you to do something stupid.” Mel had to chuckle at that. "If your that afraid you can chaperon me." Mel offered as Ellie shook her head and smiled.
“You know I suspected you were having an affair a while back, but I just you know denial.” Mel confessed as Ellie kept eating her yogurt with out being fazed by the confession.
“Was the suspicious started when I came back from Boston?”
Mel nodded as she rubbed her hands together, and fiddle with her fingers.
“I wanted to tell you, but God, I had no clue how to even start it. I mean in reality I have no memory of the night really.”
Mel nodded as Ellie reclined in her seat. “I woke up the next morning nude and Alexis was in bed with me.” Ellie closed her eyes as she took a deep breath.
“I mean I had no clue on what to do, or on how to even tell you.”
Mel chuckled as Ellie glared at her, “I'm sorry, but I'm a blunt person, that should have been the approach to take with me. Not hiding.”
“It's a sensitive subject Melissa.”
“Ok moving on,” Mel raised her hands, they had to stay civilized. “I get it not an easy thing to talk about.” Ellie agreed with her.
“Ummm,” Mel started as Ellie opened her mouth and Mel pointed at her,”Don't even say it.” Ellie smiled as she just pointed her spoon at Mel. 'Not an easy thing to be blunt about certain things,' Ellie thought as Mel just raised an eyebrow at her.
“The baby thing,” Mel mumbled as Ellie closed her eyes.
“The baby thing,” she repeated as Mel rubbed the back of her neck with both hands.
“what were you thinking? What were you planning?” Mel asked as Ellie finished the last of her yogurt and just place the things on her desk.
“You know,” Ellie started as she got up and sat next to Mel. “I think I planned it all wrong.”
“Let me re-phrase that, what happened between me and Alexis threw a lot of things off balance.”
Mel placed her hand on Ellie thigh. “Be truthful Mel would adamantly oppose a child.”
Mel took a deep breath as she faltered with her answer, “I would keep trying to oppose it.” She admitted.
Ellie covered Mel's hand as she gripped it. “Why?”
“I don't know I have parental issues, I mean with my folks and-” Mel stopped talking as she closed her eyes. She could feel Ellie tensing up. “Eventually I would of given in I guess.” Mel confessed.
“You liar,” Ellie brought Mel's hand onto her lap as she caressed it with both hands.
“With out lying would you haven gone through the whole insemination process while keeping it secret from me.”
“No, I would of convince you first.”
Mel laughed softly as Ellie smiled and sighed feeling relieved that the tension was gone.
“How about we take it one step at a time?” Mel asked as Ellie turned and kissed her on the cheek.
“Sure,” Ellie replied as Mel smiled. “We can try and you know get back to how we used to be.” Ellie shook her head as she gave Mel a peck on her lips and whispered. “How bout we start all over again.”
