Chapter 29

Robert Dawson's house wasn't big, but it was homey. The drive through Kalispell was short and randi couldn't remember that much about the town. She was trying to keep dylan a happy baby on the way to Robert's home. He had called his wife to let her know what happened and to be ready for them. He also caled the repair shop to get his car in to be fixed. A busted windshield and dented hood wasn't good.
His wife, Hayden was very nice, in the way most mothers are. She had bandaged up Randi's side and temple. Lucky for her the bleeding had stopped rather quickly and the wounds almost healded, but Hayden didn't want to take a chance of infection. She has been greatly puzzled at how both Randi and Dylan survived practically harmless.
"You're very lucky. Both of you." Hayden told her. Randi smiled and nodded. This woman realy looked familiar. If only she could remember!
"He's so cute, mom." Kyleigh, their twelve year old daugher said about Dylan. She had long dark hair and blue eyes.
"He is, isn't he?" Hayden said smiling. "You know, Randi, you and Kyleigh look very similiar, almost like twins."
"I noticed. It's very different. I've never met anyone who looked like me before." Kyleigh furrowed her brows. "Oh,no, I enjoy it. I'd rather it be you who resembles me. You're a very pretty girl." Kyleigh's face brightened into a smile. It was contagious. Hayden smiled along with Randi.
"Why are your teeth like that?" Kyleigh asked, holding Dylan's squirming and now crying body.
"Like what?" Randi asked dropping her smile.
"They're too long." she said. Randi looked at hayden who nodded in confirmation.
"Where's your bathroom?"
"Down the hall, last door on the left." Randi stood and went that way. Randi never made it to the bathroom.. Hanging on the wall, on either side were pictures. Typical family pictures, but something caught her attention.
There were four rows of pictures on the right side of the wall. On the first were pictures of Hayden and Robert. Mainly from their wedding. The second had pictures of Kyleigh from birth until now. The third had some of Robert and Hayden but with a different girl. True, she looked like Kyleigh, but it wasn't her. This was before Kyleigh was born. Hayden and Robert looked younger, but these pictures only went until the girl was five and then just ended. What had happened to her? The next row puzzled her even more. These were all taken in a hospital. Hayden was with a different man this time and she was holding a baby boy in her arms. A boy? But there wasn't a boy here now, no more pictures of him outside the hospital.
"Randi?" she jerked back from the pictures. Kyleigh was standing next to her. She looked at the pictures and smiled. "That's my half brother, Lucas. Mom gave him up for adoption before she had Miranda." She pointed to the girl in the third row. "She died in a car crash when she was five. I was born eight months later."
"I'm sorry, Kyleigh."
"It's alright." She said with a shurg. "You know, momma says I look like Miranda, so that means you do, too. It would be nice if you were my sister."
"Why?" Randi asked.
"Because you seem like a really nice person."
"Thank you, but I find that hard to believe. I don't even remember where I came from." Kyleigh opened her mouth to say something but the sound of breaking glass drowned her words.
"Hayden!" Robert yelled. Randi shoved Kyleigh aside and ran to the front room with aKyleigh following behind.
Robert had Dylan in his arms. A man was holding Hayden from behind near the window. His hair was strickingly yellow, blonder than it should have been. But, it was his eyes that got to Randi. They were a deep blue but had no pupil. Randi suddenly became angry. No one was to harm this woman, this family. She had an over powering urge to protect them all.
"Mom!" Kyleigh yelled. She moved forward and Randi shoved her back hard, knocking her to the floor. Randi started to feel the change. Her teeth grew longer in her mouth, her eyes shone blue. She felt nothing else in the room but heart beats and the glow of the shifter in front of them.
"Let her go, now."
"So it is true. Edward has found his other half. We thought it only a rumor."
"I will not tell you again. Let her go." Randi told him coldly.
"And why should I? I happen to like her."
"Because I will not allow you to take an innocent person."
"There's no other reason?" he said with a raised brow.
"No."
"You don't remember, do you? What this family is to you?" he erupted into a burst of laughter. "Oh, this is better than I thought. Fine. I will not take her, but somone else." he threw Hayden forward at Randi. She caught her stiffly. He moved too fast for them to see him grab Kyleigh. Randi leaped forward just as fastr and grabbed his arm. He spun and used his arm along with Kyleigh's weight to shove her into the far wall and was gone. Hayden rushed to Randi and helped her to stand.
"Are you alright?" She asked Randi.
"Yes, what about you?"
"I'm fine. That monster took my daughter!" Hayden said.
"We'll find her." Robert said. Dylan was still crying.
"No, I'll find her." Randi told them. "Keep Dylan safe."
"Randi, you don't even know where to look." Hayden told her.
"Trust me, I will get her back." She moved to the broken picture window.
"What are you? Your eyes, teeth?" Hayden asked.
"An oddity of nature I suppose. I'll bring her back safe." She turned to the window and a different man was standing in front of her. This one she knew. He had given Dylan to her.
"Not without help." he said.
"Andrew?" Hayden said shocked. "We haven't seen you in years."
"It's been too long." He told her, stepping into the house.
"You know them?" Randi asked.
"He saved our first daughter in the woods from being lost. I'm sorry to tell you that she died shortly after in a car wreck. We didn't know how to find you and tell you." Robert explained
"She died?" he said looking at Randi a moment. But their daughter was standing in front of them! Didn't they recognize her? What had happened to them?
"Yes. Not long before Kyleigh was born. Do you really think that you can find her?" Hayden asked desperately. Not caring why he had shown up out of the blue.
"I believe so. I do not know how long it will take. Just keep that child safe. He is more important than any of you could ever imagine." Andrew said. He grabbed Randi's arm gently and led her out of the window.
They walked in silence, not daring to speak until they made it to the road. Randi mind was reeling. Why would that make take Kyleigh? And how was that family important to Randi? She grabbed Andrew's arm and spun him around to face her.
"What's going on? And don't lie to me." she said to him. At first he didn't say anything. Didn't quite know how to work this explanation. So he took the easy way out.
"I can't tell you. It is something your mind will have to remember on it's own. To tell you now would impact every decision that you would make to get Kyleigh back alive. And I will not be responsible for anything that happens. Getting her back will be your job. I am merely here to steer you in the direction you need to go."
"And where is that?" Randi asked.
"Into the lions den. Back into the woods."
"This isn't going to be easy, is it?"
"No, it will be the hardest thing that you've faced. You just don't know it yet. He looked up to the morning sun. The way the light danced across the sky, the cool breeze of the October air. For a brief moment he felt at peace. "We have much to go over. They will be expecting you, so you can't take them by surprise. There are certain ways, things must be done, a right protocal. we better getting moving, if you ever want to see Kyleigh alive again."
