Ashe Inperiaru - Part 5
“Ashe!” Ashe turned and smiled at his friends cum enemies and leaned against the edge of the bridge, looking down at the Chicago River, the greenish muck that would kill anyone from infection alone. He leaned on the railing and waited as Sora, Shu, and Harmony walked up to him. Harmony’s eyes were blazing with hurt and anger while Sora and Shu’s eyes just looked cold, frozen with their hatred for the man who seemed to be constantly taunting them now.
“Hello everyone,” Ashe said pleasantly, making a grand showing of throwing out his arms and almost losing balance. Everyone looked to him, frightened and wishing all at the same moment. Ashe situated himself once again and leaned forward as they came out to meet him further on the bridge.
“What’s the meaning of this?” Sora demanded. “Why did you call us out here?”
“Because one of you is going to die,” Ashe laughed their way. “I’m going to drag you into the waters with me when I jump.”
“What the Hell are you talking about?” Shu demanded, taking an unconscious step back away from Ashe. Harmony and Sora did the same, watching the traffic behind them driving by, no one bothering to stop and find out the problems of four teenagers who looked like they would be more trouble than they were worth.
“Sora, I’m very disappointed in you,” Ashe continued, not offering to answer Shu’s question. “You went to your mom and told her what you thought you saw.”
“I know what I saw,” Sora snapped, taking that subconscious step closer, the one that would threaten, for his hands itched to push his friend over the railing that he clung to so gracelessly. “I told my mom what I thought would protect Rhapsody.”
“What is he talking about?” Harmony asked, turning to Shu desperately. “What did he see?”
“Oh, not just him,” Ashe laughed. “Shu as well. Your brother, and your new boyfriend, have been lying to you for months. I’ve been fucking Rhapsody for months, and they caught me, but never had the decency to explain any of this to you.”
Harmony turned from Shu to Sora and back to Shu. She looked lost. “What?” she asked helplessly.
“It’s nothing,” Shu denied, keeping Harmony behind him and away from the length of Ashe’s arms.
“It’s not nothing,” Ashe laughed, mimicking his old friend. “If it was nothing you and Sora would not be so upset about it. But which of you is worse? The one who tattles to his mother, or the one who says nothing to anyone? I know what you think of me and Rhapsody being together, Shukufuku, and I know why you haven’t fucked your own sister yet. You dream of being with mine, when it’s too late, I’m already with her.”
“You’re sick, Ashe,” Sora snapped. “I can’t believe you are bragging about something like that.”
“I’m bragging that I have someone and you do not,” Ashe laughed insanely. “You have Harmony, my sloppy seconds, but yet it is not what you really want. You saw a girl in need and came to the rescue, because you think that is the thing to do. Who’s really the sick one?”
“You,” Shu snapped. “You are the one who drags us out here, claiming you are going to bring one of us down with you.”
Ashe let out another burst of loud laughter once more. “Of course I am,” he said. “Actually, what I really brought you out here for is for the blame for my death. You see, if you three are around when I die they will never think it is a suicide, so with my death comes even more grief for the three of you.”
“You hate us so much?” Harmony asked, her heart aching. “What made you decide this? We were friends, all of us, what turned you against us?”
Ashe crooked an eyebrow their way. “Of course I do,” he snapped. “Do you not remember who took the blame when we got in that car accident? Do you not remember who was really driving that night, though she had no driver’s license? Do you not remember who supplied the alcohol? And do you not remember who refused to drive us all home?”
Harmony, Sora, and Shu all glared his way. Harmony had driven that night, without a license, and highly intoxicated on several substances. It was the accident that nearly took Ashe’s life, and had landed him in the hospital where he had needed a blood transfusion, and for whatever reasons his parents and sister were not a match. It had been the night that Sora, Shu, and Harmony had gotten off completely free of blame, for they had left all of the blame on a dying Ashe, someone they thought would not have survived the fires of death. Instead he made a full recovery, and only had avoided juvenile hall because of his parents influence, and money, over the community. If the Inperiaru’s had not been rich Ashe would still have been in a juvenile hall instead of threatening to jump off of a bridge.
“Wait,” Harmony took a few steps forward, though Shu tried to pull her back and away from the man with the daft look about his eyes. “You were saved, you were given another chance, and you are going to throw that away just for revenge against us?”
“Yes,” Ashe smiled sweetly, and then, with that, he released his grip on the bridge and went over.
