Fuji’s New Fiancé, or… Original Fiancé?

It was brought to my attention, by several people already, that Chapter 29 was not enough. And Fuji deserved a little more of closure for the end of her story I believe, so, here is a continuance of that last chapter for the people who wanted more, and LKN, you can skip and move on to the next chapter when I have it up.

Chapter 30 – Fuji’s New Fiancé, or… Original Fiancé?

Fuji walked out into the air once more, the cold whipping at her, catching the long strands of her hair that had grown quickly since her mother had shorn them off nearly two years ago. She stepped out into the fading sunlight and the rising street lights, facing the two men in her life that meant everything to her, and the one man her heart could never deny.

“It’s cold out here,” she said, in her own way of stalling. Amatsu and Devilin, though both smiling, looked unimpressed with her attempt at small talk. “Perhaps we should go inside…”

“Fuji, it’s time,” came Amatsu’s answer.

“I can’t,” she said, shaking though her decision was foremost on her mind. “What if, what if you reject me?” It was the first time she had fully voiced her fears, especially to the man who she would choose, to the man who had always been beside her, even when she had not accepted him.

“If I was going to reject you,” Amatsu pointed out, his smile widening, “I would not have come all of this way to prove to Devilin that I was going to win.”

“Always a competition with you two, isn’t it?” still stalling, though now they knew who she was going to choose, though Devilin’s initial hurt at her having told him she was going to choose her former fiancé seemed to have disappeared. He now watched her, his eyes blank, his smile wide, and his knowledge of something more intense in his head than either of them would ever know.

The silence was endless, and it was all up to Fuji to break it. She stepped forward, one step, another, and her direction altered slightly to the east, closer to Amatsu than to Devilin. They were so close together that at first her change in direction might have gone unnoticed, but it became more and more evident with each following step, closer to Amatsu, closer to the one she loved.

“My father did all of that so we could be together,” she said to him, slowly walking towards him, “and you are the one my heart has always belonged to. I want to be with you, only you.”

Amatsu reached his hands out and grasped Fuji’s arms, pulling her the rest of the distance to him, and into his arms. He did not grope her, or kiss her, he just embraced her, crushing her against him, holding her in the cold outside and being the shelter he had always been to her. “It is the whole reason I agreed with your father when he suggested it,” Amatsu admitted. “Fuji, I did everything for you. I went to school at Toudai so I could be with you, I agreed to go into your father’s business so I could be with you, I am here, in the cold, today to be with you.”

Fuji smiled into his chest, into his coat, into the winter air, holding him tight. She did not even notice Devilin slip away, at least defeated, but with greater plans in his mind, that no one could learn about in this story. Instead, it was about Fuji and Amatsu, holding one another, loving each other, and finally making that last decision to be together.
