Kath wasn’t the sort of person to get frightened over
nothing, if she’s missed handing in her home work she just shook her head and
ignored the teacher, if somebody threatened her she coolly told them her uncle
was a lawyer and went away.
But when Andy hadn’t picked up the phone she’d worried,
she’d gotten her girlfriend to drive her over to the hospital. Halley hadn’t
been happy about it, she was supposed to be running lines for “Twelfth Night”
which her collage was putting on but one look at Kath’s frightened face had
been enough for her to drop her script; drag them both into the old green beetle
and take the faster back roads to the hospital.

Oscar stirred the scolding hot cup of coffee with the tiny
little plastic stick the vending machine had so kindly provided for just this
use, he looked up as the automatic doors slid open and a girl his age; her hair
sticking out at odd angles as if she’d just got out of bed, her cloths almost
falling off her body stormed in fallowed by a woman in tight fighting jeans and
a small white t-shirt with a worried look on her face.
Oscar dumped his cup of coffee in the bin and strode up to
the girl, he remembered her from the protest she’d been the one asking him if
he’d like to join in.
“You Kath?” he asked, she ignored his question, looking desperately
around her.
“Where is Andy? Can I see him? You said he was hurt, how
badly? Who did this?” she demanded, jabbing her finger into his chest, Oscar
didn’t know one finger could hurt so much, he grabbed her hand and clenched it
tightly in his own.
“He’s sleeping from the pain killers they gave him, Doctor
says no visitors till he comes round, he’s in pretty bad shape and hell if I
knew who did it I’d be out kicking their bloody asses wouldn’t I?” Oscar
finished the last part of his sentence yelling, Kath gazed at him blankly then
wrenched her hand free and walked past him to the desk, she pressed the little
bell on the desk in rapid succession till the harassed looking nurse who had
given Oscar Andy’s bag appeared.
“I need to see Andrew David-Lloyd, I understand he was
brought in a few hours ago” she said smoothly, Oscar was amazed as the nurse
turned to the computer on the desk and typed a few things into it, then turned
back to Kath with a bright, but fake smile.
“Room 23, be quite he’s asleep” she said, Kath smiled back
brightly but just as fakely, thanked her profusely and walked back to Oscar, a
grin forming on her face.
“Gonna come see him then?” she asked, and then catching
sight of her reflection in the mirror groaned and attempted to flatten down her
hair.
“Sure” Oscar said, wondering if he should comment upon the
fact her lacy black bra was on show to the whole hospital, she seemed to have
forgotten a few critical buttons.
The other girl lent over and kissed Kath on the cheek,
pulling her shirt closed and buttoning it shut.
“I have to go” she said regretfully, ignoring Oscar’s opened
moved gaze.
“Kay…love you”
“Love you” they kissed quickly before the other girl pulled
away and jogged out to the green beetle parked in front of the hospital. Kath
turned back to Oscar and frowned at him.
“Haven’t you ever watched T.A.T.U?” she asked, cocking her
head on one side.
