Mulberry Killers
Mulberry Killers Chapter 3.
A/N: This chapter is a little shorter than the other one, only because it explains what happened between Dean and Adalyn.
Chapter 3The days had started to get colder and become dark earlier. Adalyn sat on a deck chair hugging her knees, and just thinking of how things were in the past. She could still hear the exact words Dean had said to her, that day in the school parking lot.
Flashback
A young Adalyn was walking out of the school, a little later then she had expected. With a small frown on her face, she thought to herself, “I hope Dean is still waiting for me.” As she drew closer to the parking lot, she saw Dean resting on the passenger side of the car, quickening her pace she walked faster. The smile that had graced her lips a moment ago quickly faded, when she saw how serious Dean looked. First thing out of her mouth was, “what’s wrong? Sorry I was late the meeting ran a little longer then it was supposed to.” Dean just looked at her and sighed, “It’s not that, Addy I need something new in my life.” He said crossing his arms. “Huh what do you mean, you need something new?” she asked a little taken back, “I mean I need excitement in my life. Our relationship is going nowhere,” Dean said just looking at her, “but I thought we were happy, aren’t we?” She asked shifting her bag, “you are happy aren’t you?” Seeing the look on his face told her otherwise, “you are the one who’s happy, you wanted this I just went along for the ride.” He said walking around to the driver side.
“Besides both of us knew that nothing would come of this…,” he gestured between her and himself, “relationship thing.” He finished, “but you took...,” she could not finish her sentence because it was just too much for her to handle. “Geez that was a mistake, a big mistake I did not want to sleep with you but things were going way to fast. I mean that if I could, I would take back last night. Besides, I do not think it is fair to me, to be with someone whom I do not have anything in common. Anyway you can walk home I need to pick up my girlfriend.” Dean said stepping into his car and sped away. Adalyn had no clue what had just happened but as soon as her mind put the dots together, she burst into tears. It took her two hours to walk home, and all that way she thought over the words Dean had said to her. Once she got home, she was thankful that her mother was out, or she would be getting the third degree. Adalyn got to her room and cried herself to sleep, hours later she got up and changed out of her school clothing. Still her mother was not home, so she walked into the kitchen and straight for where the knives were held.Taking out the sharpest one, she walked back up to her room, and sat on her bed. She sat there for about an hour, just staring at the knife. When she knew it was hopeless, and she could not bring herself to do it. Her mother called her name startling her, and causing her to slice a semi deep wound. Looking down at the drips of crimson liquid that fell from her wrist gave her, a rush. It excited but terrified her as well, hastily cleaning up the mess and wiping the blood from the knife. Adalyn went back down to the kitchen to greet her mother, for months after Adalyn would cut herself. She had vowed that she would never tell a soul about what she did.End of flashback
Being lightly tapped out of her daydream Adalyn slightly tilted her head away from her mother, and wiped the tears that had leaked out of her eyes. “Sweetie come inside it is getting cold and I would not want you to catch a cold.” Said her mother soothingly, “yes mama.” Adalyn whispered getting up from the chair and stretching. Tosha sensing something wrong with her daughter said, “Non abitare sulle cose nel passato,” “what does that mean?” asked Adalyn looking confused, “Neonata it means do not dwell on things in the past.” Tosha smiled and walked away. Shaking her head at her mother’s little saying, Adalyn looked down at her watch and saw that she had about three hours to kill before the curfew. She decided to jog over to Jen’s before time ran out.
