The Cathedral

I awoke in a small stone room. One day it would be among the many Sacristies, but for now it was where my bed and personal belongings reside. I was just a worker bee, watching and awe struck at the amazing piece of gothic architecture forming around me. The cathedral itself we were building from the roof down, using levitation spells to lift and fit the stones and stained glass into place as they were completed. I just sort of stood around waiting for someone to ask for help, that is what I was there for, to help the mages or the workers whenever they might need something. At the end of the day, I couldn't help but think that it was a useless job, why would they give me food and shelter to just stand around and smile like and idiot all day? But that thought quickly faded away with a yawn and I returned to my room to rest for the night. Just as I heard the lock click, a crash came from below. I stepped into my room and quickly was greeted with a hand over my mouth and a quick shutting of my door. I was now face to face with the rather handsome intruder.

"Don't struggle, be quiet or you will get us both killed," he whispered as he grabbed me, the hood of his cloak slid off of his head as he held me at an angle so I could not get away, "I won't hurt you, deep down you know that."

My back was to his chest, my head lay on his right shoulder, his left arm was around my waist and hips, the other was still covering my mouth. His grip on me was held so tight that It started to hurt. But, he was right, there was something about the energy radiating off of him that was familiar. I felt calm around him, as though he could be trusted. I looked up at him and his beautifully carved face. The moonlight shining in through the small window made his fair skin glow. His crystal blue eyes shinned out from behind his white hair like lanterns in the darkness. They were stripped, like a cat's eye, and his pointed ears stuck out from behind his perfect locks. I got lost while looking upon him, and he looked down enough for our eyes to meet. A guard ran to my door and pounded upon it with such force that it would have broke if he had not stopped when he did.

"Are you okay in there?"

I nodded at my captor and he moved his hand from my mouth and grabbed my left shoulder. He gave me a look of desperation as I spoke, "Yes, I am fine, did something happen? I heard a crash and now I hear everyone running around like chickens with their heads cut off."

"Yes, um, we think there was an intruder, we are checking all of the rooms to make sure it is safe. Would you kindly open the door?"

I felt the grip on me get tighter as sweat formed on my captor's brow. With slight stuttering I said, "I a..am sorry, I cannot do that. I just undressed for the night." I did my best to shrug my shoulders and shook my head as our eyes were still in a deadlock. "Besides, If I was an intruder, I would go for nobility or rather at least someone important to take hostage. I am just a simple gopher for the mages. Why would an intruder come into here? I assure you that I am safe, can you not hear it in my voice? And Who is to say that YOU are not the intruder trying to get me to open my door? Rather suspicious I say!" He started to shake, and tightened his grip once again, this time I could feel the fear radiating off of him. I felt scared too, not because of this person who could easily kill me, but of him being found.

" Good point, madam... Are you sure madam.....Are you sure that you are safe?"

"Yes, of course I am safe, like I said, what kind of idiot would want to kill a nobody like me?"

"Alright then madam have a good evening, and forgive us for this interruption."

We counted the heavy footsteps one by one until they disappeared down the hall. We simultaneously took a sigh of relief as his hold on me loosened and he released me as I said,

"I can't believe that actually worked..."

I turned to look at him. He was dressed in light armor, ready for a fight, but flexible enough to be able to make a quick escape. He wore a quiver with a bow slid into the side and a set of mother and son swords. "You are wrong," He said, I looked at him puzzled. "You are not a nobody, In fact, You are the reason why I am here. I swear, capturing you and erasing your memories was one thing, but forcing you to build this cathedral for them is an all time low."

"But, I am not building it, I am just a g...."

"Bullshit! Every moment you spend here, they are stealing your power, they are just putting together this place as you make it in your mind. Making you design this cathedral where their power grows with every new prayer... unforgivable! Just look at where you are, you have not left the grounds, they will not let you, so they can keep a close watch on you and make sure this haze they have you under lasts. We need to get out of here, we need to get You out of here." He took the quiver off his back and handed it to me. " I am sorry it is not as nice as the one you are used too, but it will have to do for now" I slid it on and took out the bow. He smiled and un-sheathed his swords. I could not fully believe his words, there is nothing special about me... but if he was so willing to fight, if he was so willing to get himself killed breaking in to find me, maybe there was some truth behind his words. He had spoken so passionately that I had to give him a chance. Maybe, just maybe... maybe I was wrong after all.
