Chapter 3

A/N: Okay so the name used to be Old dreams, New beginning and I changed the name feeling like it didn't suit the story. And honestly I love the changed name liking the double meaning a lot. I think I will in the future go back and rewrite chapters one and two, but for now they will stay as they are and I'll just be more wary when writing.  So yeah just a heads up and Thanks to my new Beta for editing this chapter for me. ENJOY <3

Business was dawdling as usual today, but I decided not to open. Today I was determined to wallow in my own misery and enjoy a heavy drink from my stocks of liquor.  I discouraged anyone from drinking from the bar because it was not good for business, however right now I did not give a damn.  I gulped down a shot of liquor enjoying the burn with a wedge of lime.

In three weeks I would shut this place down and I had not a dime to show from all these years unless I sold Maiden.  I had gotten the name from my sister as she had a doll named Maiden; it was a stupid name really, filled with heartfelt memories and disappointments.

In my stupor, I slumped over the counter feeling the cold surface on my warm skin while looking at the walls and enjoying the smell of the brown bourbon that filled my glass.

If life wasn’t hard enough I had somehow been on Logan’s radar as he waited patiently for his next move. I just hope I didn’t give him that chance. Logan was not a bad guy he just threw me off at times, though I did not see what he liked about me.  I had nothing to show forth and really did not know where life was taking me, but downhill.  He was good looking but he wasn’t female though after the two times that we kissed, I don’t think that really was the problem.

I swirled my drink taking a sip when I heard the door close, I knew it was not Logan because he was at work.

“We’re closed sorry come back tomorrow.” I shifted to look at the door not liking what I saw.

“Hello Carter it’s been awhile. My mom says ‘Hi’ by the way.”

I rolled my eyes. I had not seen Johnny for five years now. My brother only showed up when my cougar mother had something seething up her sleeve that she need help with or damage control.

“What do you want Johnny boy?” I smirked poking his buttons.

“Fuck you.” He glared at me as he came and stood a chair away.

I took another sip “Mmm-Sorry we don’t have any of that here, but help yourself to anything behind the counter.” I smiled.

“Ha-Ha funny. Let’s just cut the crap, I don’t like your lame jokes’ anyway, Mother sent me here because she ran into some trouble and she heard that your business adventure didn’t go so well.  Therefore, she is willing to help. Not because she approves nor does she really care, just that she says since you are her son she feels bad.”

I raised my glass acting as if I give a damn. My mother is the type of woman that loves to deal with dirty money, her eyes would practical roll with dollar signs no matter where the money came from and at times, this money lead to trouble and she trusted no one but her sons for help.

At a young age, I had left home stealing about two hundred grand in the process. As soon as she found out about it she let it slide calling it my little rebellion, but truly she never forgave me. It was constantly thrown in my face and for my stupidity I was at her spite.  There was times when she came to collect from my place until it had been paid in full or she asked for favors that I did not really agree too but I did.

Cunt Claudia, I liked to call her at times was not the greatest mother in the world and she had no mercy for her children.  Family wasn’t an exception in her book. We were pawns and so were the men in her life, which is how we came to be in this world.  I could not careless about who my father was with all three of us having different dads’.

It really didn’t matter when you had to deal with a mother that was a criminal. I tried turning a blind eye to my mother’s dealing of her so called ‘hard work’ and wanted nothing to do with it, but like I said we aren’t an exception.

I hated it, but my brother John had fell for my mother’s spell, brain washed, he was a loyal mama’s boy.

Although as for my sister she was given small jobs to do like driving us around before she had decided she wanted to go to college, but not without a say from my mother. Cunt Claudia pushed my sister into becoming a lawyer. My sister had refused, wanting to study art, but my mother had not listened, only telling her she could do what she wanted but at the end of the day, she was going to be a lawyer or there would be daring consequences.  My sister like a kicked puppy did as she was told and was now having a peaceful life studying.

Now the past was back and I knew it was too good to be true. Almost six years of peace, that was just too long for my mother and her loyal dog. I gulped down the drink feeling the warm roll flush to my head before having the balls to speak out against my young brother.

“You can just go running back to that cunt, I have nothing to lose nor do I want her help. If she wants to bring heavy duty men to take me out then so be it…”

My brother began shake his head disapproving with his older brother. I knew he thought me a coward but I could careless.

“Fine, but if I do, it will not be you who suffers, your daughter will. Shame if I have to hurt my pretty little niece.”

My temper flared, I quickly backed out of the seat as it slammed against the floor grabbing hold of John’s neck in my hand.

“Don’t you fucking touch her! You hear me!! Or I swear you’ll die right here!!!”

I let up throwing him back against the counter giving him space to hear his protest. He coughed grunting to get his air back

“Okay I won’t as long as you help. It’s not up for discussion you either take the job or she suffers.”

I narrowed my eyes at him, disgusted with the fact that my family had the nerve to bite their own kin just for some damn pricey paper.

“Fine, alright…I’ll do it, but leave her out of this. Just give me a week so I can set things up here and I’ll come to you.”

He grinned knowing he had won.

“Alright, mother’s new bodyguard will call you up on the details in a week’s time; also mother will like to see you too.”

I slumped back down into chair furious with myself. “Whatever. Just tell her I’ll be home soon.”

My brother laughed with glee as walk towards the front door. “I’ll catch you later big brother Rouge.”

I tossed my glass at the door hearing it break as the door swung close. I hated my first name.  A few more hours fighting with myself, a couple of glasses of Bourbon later and I feel asleep in a booth drooling on the seat.
