The next evening, while most of the students slept, Kuurin stared outside his window, watching the hunters in the distance keep watch. There was an agreement between the school and these vampire hunters. If a vampire were to go out of control, and could not be stopped, then the hunters would be allowed to step in and take matters into their own hands. Of course… this meant possible death for the vampire involved.

Still, it seemed like such a nice night out, and Kuurin was feeling edgy. He so longed to be outside again, even if it had to be at night. The school felt more like a prison anyway. It was nothing like home.

Then something caught his eye. He saw the color red, knowing it was the uniform of a non-vampire. Seems like what they didn’t know was the fact that they were being followed by a dangerous classmate. Kuurin grinned to himself. What a lovely excuse to get out.

Pulling on some boots, the teenage vampire left the dorm and sleeping roommate behind, heading to the campus doors. Once outside, he lightly sniffed the air, and was satisfied that no attacks had happened just yet. Quietly as he could, he went out into the night.

Naeyan sighed as he walked through the halls, yet again getting lost. He wondered if he would ever figure out his way on this large campus. After a few more minutes of wandering, he finally came to his room. “Ugh,” he groaned, going inside. “This place is way too big…”

“Totally,” agreed Khile, reading a book on his bed.

Naeyan sighed softly, going to the window to open it to hopefully get some fresh air, but he paused when he spotted a familiar girl walking around outside. “… Maya?”

“Huh?” His roommate looked over at him. “What’d you say?”

“Sorry,” said the silver-haired boy, heading to the door again. “I have to go see someone.”

“.. Whatever.”

With worry and concern building in his heart over his dear friend, Naeyan went outside without a second thought. He had to stop her. Who knows what could happen to her outside the school?

Where are they hiding? she wondered, carefully stepping over a root that poked out of the ground. She silently made her way to the hunter grounds, searching for them. “Come out, Robert,” she whispered.

After a few more minutes, a young male, perhaps in his late teens or early twenties, came out from the shadows. He wore leather armor, a quiver on his back, highly decorated arrows inside, one in his hand. His hair was the same shade of green as her own. “So, what did you learn about them so far, sis?” he wondered, his companions still hiding.
“They seem like cowards,” she told him, keeping her voice low. “Blood is even off-limits here. I thought that they would be wilder than this.”

“So basically, all that happened so far this year was a consented turning… huh…”

“Seems like it.”

Without warning, an arrow shot out from behind the trees, and the cry of pain that followed after the light thunk of the weapon hitting its target. The two quickly turned to see a wounded vampiric student, holding his now injured shoulder. “What the hell…?”

The young man stepped out in front of his sister. “Why did you follow her, beast?”

The teen stared up at him. “I was trying to get her to go back to school!” He pulled the arrow out, blood pouring out of his shoulder. “It’s fucking dangerous out here! Especially with you freaks around!”

Glaring, the man growled at him, “You’re the freak! Needing to drink blood to survive?! Why the hell do you things even need a school?! It’s not like you’re actually civilized!”

“Says who?” snapped Kuurin, finally arriving at the scene. “Your little friend attacked first, bastard, and I bet that Headmaster Sarz will be out here shortly now that you’ve spilt vampiric blood.”

The man narrowed his eyes at Kuurin, but couldn’t argue against him. “So then… let your headmaster come. Perhaps a war will be waged right here, right now! Ow!!” The hunter rubbed the back of his head lightly where his sister had smacked him.

“That’s enough, Robert!” Looking at Kuurin, she told him, “You better get your friend to a healer.” She then quickly retreated into the forest, sprinting quickly passed the other hunters.

“Aahh!!” Naeyan was on his knees, tightly holding onto his bleeding arm as he looked up at the vampire that had caught him. “Why are you doing this?!”

The vampire growled menacingly, baring his teeth. “Because someone attacked a friend of mine… I can smell it… his blood…” He grabbed the other boy by the neck, lifting him into the air, starting to squeeze. “If he is killed… then I’ll kill you… An eye for an eye. I’m sure you’d understand.”

Naeyan gasped for air, unable to breathe, the blood still dripping from his arm as he tried to stay awake. “P-please…” he whispered, “d-don’t…”

“Sorry, kid, but I kinda have to,” replied his attacker, squeezing tighter.

As things started getting darker, the vampire suddenly let go, letting Naeyan fall to the floor. As the non-vampire boy tried to catch his breath, the other teen struck again, kicking him in the stomach. Writhing in pain, Naeyan vaguely wondered what would become of him. Was he actually going to die now?

Without warning, the vampire’s face came right up next to his own. “So intoxicating…” he purred, licking the boy’s neck. “Blood really is… like a miracle medicine…” He then bit down onto Naeyan’s neck, his teeth easily sinking into the skin, causing the silver-haired teen to cry out, in both fear and pain.

School wasn’t supposed to be like this, right? It was a safe learning environment, right? Then why was this boy attacking him like this? Why weren’t there any adults around?

Am I going to die now…?
