Thanks again to everyone who reviewed! I appreciate feedback :)
Sorry this took so long, but I had to rewrite part of it.

Time to see some more of Jake and Evan interacting ;)

Chapter 3

After a couple weeks Evan started to get the hang of working and college, as well as his fumbling attempts at interacting with Jake. Apparently Jake only does his work at the cafe two or three times a week, but when he's there he always makes sure he spends some time talking to his favorite barista.

Jake never really goes there on Saturday, but Jess had told him that Evan would be working a long shift so he decided to stop by. He walked into a cafe full of chaos. There was a line out the door and customers complaining loudly at the four workers. Jake walked over to another customer to ask what was going on.

“Apparently the hot water isn't working or something, so all they have are iced drinks. What the hell kind of cafe doesn't have hot water? They claim to have someone working on it,” was the answer he was given.

He waited patiently as he watched Evan and his coworkers try to convince customers to take iced drinks for a discounted price, until after about 10 minutes the hot water started working again. By the time Jake got up to the front, many of the customers had left, and Evan was the only one at the register.

“Looks like you're having a fun day,” Jake commented to the frazzled looking barista after he placed his order.

“You have no idea! We had no hot water for 40 minutes, people were getting seriously pissed, plus we're down a person until the next shift starts. And of course I'm also working next shift,” Evan replied with an exhausted sigh.

“Do you get to take a break any time soon?”

Evan finally smiled, “Yea, in about 20 minutes.”

Jake looked over at the shift supervisor, “John, there aren't any customers at the moment, why don't you let Evan take a break to keep me company?”

John distractedly nodded at them, “Yea yea sure.”

“Well,” Jake said to Evan, “Looks like you're my lunch date! I'll go get a table.”

“Ok, sure,” Evan by now had become comfortable enough to enjoy his time spent with Jake, and to even look forward to it. “Let me just change the trash and refill the napkins first.”

After refilling the napkin dispensers, Evan opened the cabinet door to get to the trash can. Noticing that someone had missed the can and poured coffee down the side of the cabinet, he pulled the can out and started cleaning inside the cabinet.

As he was doing this, a customer went to pour some excess coffee out into the little hole that leads to the garbage, somehow not noticing there was a person currently cleaning it out.

“OW! Shit!” Evan jumped up quickly, hot coffee running down his hair onto his shirt, he turned to the customer, “What the hell is your problem! Did you not see that there was someone there? Did you think the garbage can was off to the side for decoration? That's freaking hot! Seriously, who does that?”

John quickly ran over, “Evan man, what happened? Why don't you calm down and we'll go to the back room to get you cleaned up?”

Evan, still upset, turned to his supervisor, “No! This guy didn't even apologize yet. I'm waiting. Well? Well?!” At that, the customer threw out a hasty “sorry!” and ran out of the store.

Adrenaline starting to fade, Evan noticed how uncomfortably hot the coffee in his hair is, as well as the fact that everyone was staring at him and Jake was making his way over.

“John,” Jake started as he grabbed some napkins for Evan, “Why don't you let Evan go home and get cleaned up? I can drive him if he's too upset,” He looked over to Evan at this last part.

“Yea, you can go home. The next shift is starting soon anyway, don't worry, I'll tell Shirley what happened.”

“Evan,” Jake looked over with concern, Evan's neck looked like it was getting a little red from the coffee, “How about I drive you home? Leave your car keys, I'm sure that Shirley and her husband can drop your car off, ok?”

Evan just nodded, told John where his keys are in the back room, and walked out to Jake's car.

After giving Jake directions, they pulled up to his apartment. Evan went to get his apartment keys from his pocket before saying goodbye to Jake when he realized he didn't have them.

He leaned his head back on the headrest and sighed, “I'm sorry, I forgot to get my house keys from my key ring. Can you take me back to the store?”

“No can do, your neck needs some attention,” Jake said, before thinking of the kind of attention he'd like to give to Evan's delicate neck.

“My place is closer, and John gave me some burn cream before we left, so we can go there then I'll have Shirley bring your car to my place. Deal?”

Not wanting to argue, and distracted by the increasingly growing pain, Evan agreed.

When they got to Jake's place, he showed Evan to the bathroom and left some sweatpants and a shirt for him to change into after washing his hair.

As Evan showered, Jake couldn't help but think of the fact that he finally got Evan in his apartment, yet had no idea how to precede with his less than subtle flirtations. Evan is perfect for him: sweet, considerate, intelligent, hard-working, and unbearably adorable! And in the cafe he just proved he had a backbone as well. Perhaps it's time to just ask him out on a date? Is it too soon?

As he was pondering the situation, Evan finished showering and walked out wearing Jake's clothes, obviously too big for him seeing as how Jake is 6 feet tall. He sheepishly tried to finger comb his hair as Jake turned to look at him, and promptly burst out laughing.

At Evan's frown he tried to explain, “I'm sorry! Really! It's just...you look...you're just too freakin cute!” He managed to say while trying to calm his laughter.

“Yea yea, laugh it up big man,” Evan grumpily replied, “It's not my fault you're freakishly tall!”

Jake just patted the empty space on the couch, “Come sit down, I'll put the ointment on you.”

After Evan sat down, Jake turned to face him and realized a minor dilemma.

“I think it'd be best if you took your shirt off, since it's covering some of the burn, is that ok?” He asked gently, hoping Evan wouldn't become skittish like he was when they first met.

Evan immediately blushed, heart starting to pound as he realized the intimate position they were going to be in soon. “Um, uh...yea, n-no problem,” he managed to stutter out, before slowly removing his shirt. He briefly held it in front of his chest for protection, before he decided to just get it over with and put the shirt on the coffee table.

Trying not to stare at the lithe body before him, Jake asked him to turn so his back was facing him. “This might be a little cold compared to how hot your skin must feel,” Jake warned before gently applying the ointment to the worst looking areas.

Evan jumped at the first touch, it certainly was cold, then began to relax as Jake started massaging the ointment into his neck. He figured this was a good time to start apologizing.

“Jake, I'm really sorry you had to see me act crazy like that. It's just that, well, it's been a long day and the customers were being meaner than usual, and, well, I guess I just snapped. It just seemed like too much shit all at once and,” he broke off with an involuntary moan as Jake massaged a tense part of his neck. When did this turn into a massage anyway?

Jake smiled as he heard the moan, glad that Evan didn't complain that he was now no longer touching him for purely medicinal reasons.

“Don't worry about it, it was good to see you stand up for yourself,” he leaned in close and whispered into Evan's ear, “In fact, it was really sexy.”

Evan couldn't have controlled his shiver and moan at that whisper if his life depended on it. He twisted his body to look into Jake's eyes, “W-what? You think I'm sexy?”

Jake grinned at him, “Sweetheart, you're the sexiest person I've ever met.” While Evan sat there looking shocked, Jake turned him back around, but this time slid forward so Evan was sitting between his legs, with his back to Jake's chest. Jake continued his massage as Evan tried to understand what was going on, but this time he drew his hands further down, one hand massaging Evan's chest, the other lower on his abdomen, his touches becoming lighter and more teasing.

As one hand brushed his nipple, Evan seemed to come back into awareness with a groan. He rested his head back on Jake's shoulder, allowing the touches to continue.

As Evan felt himself growing hard, and felt Jake's own bulge against his back, he snapped out of the daze he was in. He jumped up, grabbing his shirt, and turned to face Jake while holding his shirt in front of him, hoping his arousal would be covered by it.

Face flaming with embarrassment, he began babbling, “Um, t-thanks for the ointment, I a-appreciate it. I'll g-get you a towel for your hands.” At that he ran off to grab a damp paper towel for Jake to get the remaining ointment off his hands before Jake had a chance to say anything.

Jake sighed, I should have known it was too soon, I definitely need to take it slow with him

When Evan returned with a towel, Jake accepted it and graciously let Evan lure him into small talk to ease his embarrassment.

They were just discussing a new restaurant, when the doorbell rang.

“It must be Shirley with your car. Wait here, I'll be right back,” Jake said as he stood up.

After getting the keys and explaining to Shirley what happened in the cafe, Jake went back to the living room to see Evan curled up, deeply asleep. He sighed, scooped him up, and brought him into the bedroom. After tucking Evan in, he considered sleeping in the bed with him, before he grabbed a pillow and went to sleep on the couch.

AN - I know I know, I used a cliche to get them to Jake's place, but I'm sure you'll all live! Next up, let's learn a bit about Evan's past!
