Chapter 3
Angerona practically stomped to the front door and swung it open wide to reveal her two best friends. Both were grinning from ear to ear and that pissed off Angerona even more.
"I will tell you both one damn thing! I am in no mood to put up with your antics or even going out tonight. You can forget it! I have been running around all day long and I’m fed up! I wanted one quiet day to myself, but noooo. Here I am entertaining Rupert, scaring off the mailman and now you two show up? Hell no! Forget it." Angerona slammed the door unceremoniously in their faces and then stalked back off to the living room where she sat heavily down on the soft brown leather couch with a huff and put her head in her hands.
She hated social events and she hated leaving her house even more. Some would call that a disorder, but Angerona didn't believe in disorders and just told everyone her grandmother needed constant attention. This was not far from the truth, but she just really valued her privacy.
The only people she could ever stand to be around for extended periods of time, outside of family, were her two friends and she belatedly realized she just told them where to stick it. Groaning, silent angry tears started running down her face when she felt a pair of gentle hands on her back.
"How can either of you ever stand to be around me? I am such a horrible friend." Angerona said with a small, soft groan. She felt the couch dip on either side as her friends sat down beside her.
"Oh Angie, we know you didn't mean it and honestly, I don't know how you put up with Lexie and me. After all, we’re usually the ones throwing fits or upsetting you. Not the other way around." Evahraine said gently.
"Eva’s right, Angie. We love you like a sister. Besides we’re not taking you to a bar this year!" Alexis said happily to her best friend.
"Really?" Angerona asked skeptically, her head popping up.
"That is right! We have decided you need a vacation this year and..." Alexis didn't get to finish her sentence.
"A vacation? Oh hell no! I am not leaving MeMaw here by herself. Have you lost your minds? What would happen if I wasn't here? What..." Angerona was also cut off as Rupert entered the room.
"Excuse me, Miss Angerona, but I couldn’t help but overhear. I could stay here with Agatha and take care of her while you are gone. I do not mind in the least." Rupert said reproachfully.
Angerona stared wide eyed at him for a long moment. Before she could even open her mouth, Eva exclaimed, “Yeah! That’s perfect! See Angie? Your MeMaw will be taken care of and I’m sure Rupert here will do a great job. You’ve known his family for years, right? And I think his dad would skin him alive if he let anything happen to her."
Angerona bit her lip as she looked back and forth between her friends and Rupert. She surveyed their anxious and hopeful faces, taking several long moments before answering.
“Rupert, let me make myself perfectly clear. If when I come home, there’s a single hair out of place on her head, if she hasn’t taken every single pill she needs, so help me, I will kill you with my own bare hands,” she said sternly, pointing a finger at him.
"Miss Angerona, I assure you, I’ll take excellent care of her. I give you my word that nothing will happen to her while you are gone. I swear upon my grandfather's honor and grave." He said raising his right hand, a watery smile crossing his face.
"Fine. I guess I need to tell MeMaw I’ll be gone for a few days." Angerona said grudgingly. Turning to the kitchen, she saw the girls high-five and give a whoop of glee. Angerona shook her head and smiled beside herself before stepping into the quaint kitchen, bracing herself to tell Agatha that she would be leaving the house.
