Chapter 3:

As I sat and waited in the waiting room a week later, my heart fluttered. I was nervous. Was it going to be all awkward silence or will everything be fine? Suddenly I was called in, but this time it wasn’t by Emily. I started to panic, this was my last appointment probably for a while, and I was really hoping to see her. The other nurse set everything up, she put the ‘bib’ on and got everything ready to go. Just when I was giving all hope of seeing her...

“Hey, sorry I’m late. There was a bad accident on River road,” I heard a familiar voice say in another room, probably to the dentist. You would’ve had to been blind not to see me light up at the sound of her voice.

“Hey, I’ll take over from here, thanks,” she said to the other nurse patting her on the shoulder.

“Okay, thanks,” said the other nurse as she walked out of the room.

“Hey, how have you been,” she asked me smiling

“I’ve been good, yourself?” I responded

“Not bad, you know, hanging in there.” She was still smiling.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.” I said looking at her. Her smile was perfect, and incredible beautiful.

“So... any girl crushes?” she asked kind of jokingly

“Yeah actually,” I said hesitantly. I kind of wanted to spark a conversation that would lead to me telling her that I’m into her. I was getting extremely nervous again.

“Really? Anyone I might know in this small pathetic town?” she asked curiously

“Yeah, there is a definite possibility that you know her.”

“Really?” she repeated, “Are you going to tell me who she is?”

“I don’t know, I mean I want to,” I said shaking in my seat, “but I’m nervous and I don’t want it to get out around town again.”

“Oh that’s okay,” she said after a nerve wracking moment of silence. I could hear the disappointment in her voice, “I understand. We don’t need another secret going around town.”

I suddenly felt guilty. I made her sad, and I felt really bad about it. She continued to stall in the room, more than she usually does. The awkwardness level skyrocketed and you could feel it. Right when you thought thinks couldn’t get any weirder, it happened. It all happened so fast that I didn’t have time to think about my actions.

“Whatever,” she said finally after a moment of silence, her back to me, “It doesn’t really matter if you tell me. I mean, what am I going to do.” Was that her voice cracking? Is she holding back tears??

She started walking out of the room and I knew it was now or never.

“Hey” I said getting out of the chair. I grabbed her hand and spun her around to face me. I wiped away a single tear that hung in her eye. I couldn’t get over how amazing they are, like a vortex pulling me in. I kissed her gently and felt her tighten up then relax into me. “You...I like you.”
