A Fight and a Show

III: A Fight and a Show

(Characters belong to me and Azathoia.)

We have him cornered with no chance of escape, but I know that wouldn’t stop him if he was determined enough to get away. It wasn’t like him to just retreat though; he enjoyed battle that much. Before I could even think to attack him, he comes at me, kicking at my stomach, but with my quick reflexes I am able to grab his leg before he even comes into contact with my body, and I drop low, taking his other leg out from under him, causing him to fall to the ground on his back. As I go to knock him out by using my heel to collide with his face, he rolls away, getting back to his feet and coming at me again, swinging punches left and right. I dodge a few and even land a few blows on him, but eventually he punches me in the ribs and I am thrown back against a wall. The pain is so fierce, and I feel where he had hit me, trying to make sure nothing is broken. “Come and see how a real man fights,” I hear Ikkaku growl at Maynard, and I look up to see the half-breed standing between us, ready for his turn to fight my insane brother.

Maynard merely laughs at him. “Show me your stuff, little Ikkaku,” and with that my brother runs at him, but Ikkaku is able to avoid the first punch thrown; however, he gets struck by the second blow to the side of his face. He backs up to the wall beside me, and as I leave the wall to get behind Maynard for a sneak attack, I hear concrete breaking from the wall. I look back in time to see Ikkaku fight back, first punching him, and then kicking him in the head. The half-blood vampire is stronger than I first thought.

However, his advantage is short-lived as Maynard grabs his wrist and spins him around, pinning him against the wall. This isn’t good. I walk back over just as Maynard finishes saying something to him, and I punch him in the back of the head. He quickly falls to the ground, and Ikkaku turns to see me after a few more moments. It is plainly obvious that he is affected by the blood. I have to make sure he isn’t going to run off and attack someone. He just wipes the blood off his face and steps over Maynard. I guess he is going to be fine after all. “Thank you for distracting him,” I tell Ikkaku, taking my phone out and dialing Kimura’s number.

“Hi, darling little Ereth, how are you now?” She is always so strange. “Did you catch the bad little seed?”

“Yes, Kimura, we did.” I glare down at Maynard. He really made a mess of things. “We’ll need to keep a closer watch on him.”

“Aye aye, captain.” I just know that she is grinning at me on the phone. “Should I use the chains?”

I roll my eyes. “Kimura, we’re not beasts…”

“I know, I know. The dungeon then!”

“No, Kimura…”

The next few days are rather quiet, until we receive a call from a boy named Abarei. Apparently he wants Ikkaku to be live entertainment for a fashion show tomorrow. I could say no, but… I do owe him for helping me with Maynard. I sigh as I dial his number from the apartment phone, and once again I am forced to listen to the dreaded voice mail message. When its irritating voice finally ends, I leave my message to Ikkaku. “Someone wants you to be live entertainment for a fashion show. I’ll allow this since I do indeed owe you for the help the other day.” I tell him the phone number to reach Abarei at, and then hang up the phone.

I should probably baby-sit Ikkaku there, too. I grin lightly to myself. He wouldn’t like that one bit. I leave the comfort of my luxurious room to find Kimura and fill her in on the details.

I yawn as Ikkaku and the rest of his band sets up. He hasn’t said much to me yet, and I haven’t really tried talking to him yet either. I just don’t have the energy to listen to his bitching right now. I haven’t been sleeping well at all. “Thank you for agreeing to this,” I hear someone say to Ikkaku, and I glance over to see a little boy in a dress talking to him. That must be Abarei.

“Yeah, sure,” Ikkaku replies to him. “Thanks for having us.”

“No problem.” Whenever that boy smiles he looks like a sweet little girl…

I consider leaving, thinking that Ikkaku can handle things on his own, until I notice him almost glare at something, and I turn my head to see what it is he is looking at. There’s another cross dressing boy over by the curtain, smiling at Ikkaku. The two seem to know each other… Maybe I’ll stay after all…

My suspicions about them knowing each other appear to be correct as the show goes on. That blonde boy continuously glances in Ikkaku’s direction, and I don’t like it. Not one bit. I told Ikkaku that he should be careful while living on the outside; it seems he wasn’t careful at all if someone so insignificant knows him.

Once the fashion show comes to an end, the boy tries to get to Ikkaku, but I step up in front of him. I need to find out just exactly how much he knows. “Uh, hello,” he says to me, politely smiling. At least he seems to have decent manners.

“Hello,” I greet him, offering my hand, which he shakes. “I am Ereth Twilight.” I pause a moment before asking him, “Are you familiar with Ikkaku?”

“Oh, sort of,” he answers. “He saved my life once. When I saw him he was covered in blood, though.”

Covered in blood, hm? Ikkaku’s going to get quite a lecture after this. “Oh, was he? Why did you think that was?”

“Well…” He thinks over his answer carefully, as though trying to come up with something believable. “I don’t know, but I think I actually dreamed that part up.”

“Interesting…” I am about to interrogate him more, but I sense something nearby, and I pause. I smell blood… I turn and quickly walk outside, wondering where it’s coming from. Now that I’m outside, I can smell it better… and the disturbing aroma of cocaine makes me frown. Obviously it wasn’t a complete innocent that had been attacked. That relieves me only a little, and I look behind me as Ikkaku approaches and takes a whiff at the air. “Thought there might have been another massacre,” he comments softly, and I turn to him completely.

“Fortunately it’s just an urgent feeding… and speaking of feeding,” I start, narrowing my eyes at him, “I hear someone saw you covered in blood before.”

His eyes widen a little. It’s a moment more before he tries explaining himself. “Listen, I got the kid to think he was hallucinating.”

“Apparently not, if he still seems to believe what he saw,” I tell him. “If this gets out of hand, he will have to be taken care of.”

“He’s just a kid, Ereth,” he growls at me, and I glare right back at him. “Besides, it’s not like anyone would believe him anyway.”

“Are you really so sure about that, Ikkaku? Youth these days tend to believe in rather interesting things; I’m sure belief in vampirism is a rather hot topic.” Before he can respond to that, I add, “If he gets too many people believing that he was saved by a vampire, you will be the one to kill him, and I’ll be locking you away in the building for a couple centuries.”

He goes silent, but the glare remains, so full of hatred and anger. I don’t care. He’s the one that wasn’t careful enough. I turn and walk away from him, on my way back home. I’ll let him think on the consequences of his actions for now. Maybe next time he’ll take care of his problems before they become major issues…
